TL;DR: Excellent service from a kind, hardworking owner -- and the food is genuinely good. Don't…read morelet the outside fool you; this is a great Chinese takeout spot. I'm writing this to help clear up the negative first impression the exterior might give. The windows only look dirty because they're covered in thick plastic. I drive between Baltimore County and Gettysburg often, and needed Christmas Day takeout. After reading the reviews (better than any in Gettysburg), I called on Christmas Eve to confirm they'd be open -- they were. Their menu is limited, but the prices are reasonable. I called in my order on the road; it took a couple tries to get through, and when I did, the woman let me know it would be a 40-minute wait because they were slammed. She was polite, repeated my order back, and I headed that way. When I arrived, the parking lot was quiet, but once inside I could clearly see how busy they really were from all the foot traffic in and out and lots of bags with each order. The restaurant was clean, and the woman working was warm, apologetic about the wait, and literally running back and forth to help everyone. She double-checked my bags, noticed a missing rice, and rushed to grab it. For three large entrees, egg rolls, and soup, my total was about $45 -- plus she offered a free 2-liter and pointed me to sauces and utensils. By the time I got to my parents' house 20 minutes later, the food was still piping hot. The egg drop soup was exactly what I hoped for, the egg rolls were tasty, and my chicken with broccoli was solid (I added some hot sauce for extra kick). My parents enjoyed their General Tso's -- plenty of sauce, mild-to-medium heat, and tender chicken. I took menus for myself and my parents; it may not be the closest option for them, but it's easily one of the better choices when I'm driving through. Friendly, appreciative service + clean space + good food = I'll absolutely be back.

Portions for lunch special were nice size. The flavor is a little less than average. And lacking meat and vegetables. Very plain. Unfortunately about half way through my wonton soup I started to get ill. Not sure what that was and I'm not pointing fingers.. but I do not recommend this place. I think it worth the drive. Going somewhere else.

My 4 star rating doesn't mean that everything wasn't quite good; it's just that a dining experience…read moremust be genuinely exceptional for me to rate 5. My wife and I had initially intended to dine at a Mexican restaurant which we'd enjoyed in the past several doors down, however learned that they are closed on Sundays. We visited at approximately 3:30pm on an early December Sunday. There were about a half dozen tables occupied and we were seated at the booth of our choice within a minute. The servers were promptly and attentive. We were provided beverages and a bowl of tasty Wonton Crispies which were addictive! For my meal I selected the Szechuan Tofu with steamed rice and a bowl of Wonton Soup which were delicious but could only eat about half of my plated (thus shall enjoy it tomorrow whilst at work for lunch.) A person who was either the manager or owner came by to check on us and provided boxes (including for what remained of our second-floor serving of Wonton Crispies). We were given the check. Prices are reasonable and I'll gladly pay for quality, particularly for something which will traverse my innards. I recommend this highly if you are in the environs of Westminster, MD and fancy Chinese cuisine. Oh, they have what seems to be a full bar, however I didn't notice a buffet setup.

I was told Forbidden City was the best Chinese food in Carroll County. Oh, boy. I hope that is not…read morethe case. I ordered takeout. The egg rolls were greasy. The seafood in the Happy Family was chewy and tough. The vegetables were soggy and overcooked. I suspect they were straight from a can. Very disappointing. My order was ready quickly. I guess that's a plus. And while I didn't eat in, I did pick up my order so I saw the dining room, and it looked nice. Maybe the food is better when you dine in.

This is my FAVORITE Asian restaurant anywhere. The service and food is impeccable. The portions…read moreare very generous and made with fresh, wholesome ingredients. The menu is filled with lots of varied choices, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. And to top it all off, the cost of this delicious food is VERY reasonable. Today, for lunch, I ordered Mongolian Beef, accompanied by hot and sour soup, which was perfectly seasoned and balanced, a spring roll, and rice. I had enough to take home left after consuming enough to be satisfied. I recommend that you make Modern Asia your "go-to" Asian restaurant.

SU ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, her "go-to" and every Asian restaurant, and compares each one to China Garden's version. Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!

I ordered…read moretakeout and was incredibly disappointed with the quality of the food and even more so with the customer service. I ordered the beef and broccoli and received what was essentially a container full of barely cooked broccoli. It was maybe 80% broccoli with hardly any beef to be found. The house noodles, which usually come packed with a variety of meats and shrimp, came with maybe five or six shrimp--no other meat. As for the General Tso's chicken, it was overloaded with broccoli as well, which is not how it's ever come before. I have ordered from here for over 6 years ago. The last time we ordered we were a bit disappointed but not nearly as much as today. When I called about the food, the woman who answered was rude. I was told I was wrong and that's how it has always come which is a lie. They refused to replace or refund. If you want good Chinese food in Gettysburg go to the outlets.
