Pakora perfection for lunch
Now,this place has been in my life for about 21 years,I lived 5 mins from it before I moved to newlands, ,popped in for lunch again yesterday,my eating habits are unorthodox at times, living alone I have the luxury of eating exactly what I like, whenever I like without having to consider others, and I'm partial to a pakora breakfast,I don't eat til I've been awake for at least 3 or 4 hours,so a quick deep frying of some fish (my favourite ) vegetables etc in pakora batter hits the spot. But sometimes it's not enough,or I don't have ingredients, or am just too lazy,I head to the new Anand at these times. Now,it's a buffet, I dislike buffets, here it's different, no soggy batter sitting in trays, on arriving a signal to kitchen results in fresh starters being made, chicken pakora which is excellent - not sure if this would be the case if it had been in a bag for delivery -mushroom,onion bhai, chicken chat, and more all deep fried to perfection, irresistible to even the types who have chicken Maryland in an Indian restaurants, salads, sauces, mango chutney etc in abundance complete the experience, as its lunchtime and only £6.50 there's no pangs of guilt for overeating starters and not leaving room for mains, the plague of eating in Indian restaurants
Main course are available too,I usually nibble on a few things from the excellent selection, mother India it ain't,it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not,but to give credit where it's due the chicken, beef and lamb are always excellent quality, tender juicy, bathed in somewhat unexp but tasty "Glasgow "type curry sauce. You may also ,if your a secret voyeur of other diner eating habits, witness extraordinary heights of gluttony, being reache, people who will not just"eat as much as you like " but as much as can be stuffed in. You can also ,like me indulge in out of character judgmental behaviou towards the other buffet type" eyes bigger than belly"whos esten too much pakora, glancing with a diaspproval see plates abandoned, wasted, too fully eat more than a morsel of the main course. It's things like this that make me dislike the concept of buffetts, often advertised with the caption "eat as much as you like"
I don't know about you but I've never exited an Indian restaurant hungry, I eat as much as I like there too, then stop when I'm full, simple.
Variety not quantity is the attraction here fore me,little bits of this and that, perfect lunchtime fodder ,it's breakfast really for me,and only the midday hunger, the most intens one for me,draws me here. I leave satisfied after eating as much as i like, its fast too,ive been out in under 30min,cracking little place doing what it does well, long may it continue read more
