The service was bad honestly. The food too. We didn't get greeted with enthusiasm or a smile. Then went I went to go take another bite I noticed a hair on my plate. Black and Curly. I don't have black or curly hair so I told the lady at the register, she looked at it took the plate and went in the back. NOT ONE WORD. came back to the table a couple of mins later placed my plate in front on me and again said NOT ONE WORD. No I'm sorry I hope this fixes it...nothing. I didn't touch the food after that. My appetite was gone and if she would've spoken to me I would've told her so, that way they didn't waste making more food. And the ceviche was awful. This casual sit down or go restaurant is super perfect for grabbing a quick snack, a full meal, or when you're with a split party that some people want dessert or something cool and sweet and the other half of the party just wants tacos. The menu here is traditionally street Mexican, with elote, tacos, tortas, taquitos, and burritos on the menu among other platter type dishes. The dessert side of the menu is mangonada or shaved ice, as well as a cool (and generous) slice of sticky sweet flan. Honestly, as far as street Mexican goes, this place has got it all. On a motorcycle ride through the area and I wanted a good, locally owned restaurant to visit for lunch (and a break from the heat). The waitress met me at the table with a smile and the menu and within seconds I had a big glass of iced tea in my hand. Stellar service! I ordered the Enchiladas Michuacanas with lingua (cow tongue). Don't knock it until you've tried it. Lingua rocks. The enchiladas came with rice and refried beans, topped with lettuce and avocado slices and a Mexican crema. Absolutely great! On the down low this place puts out som killer food, big portions, very fairly priced. Daily lunch specials are usually $4.99 and you kinda want to pay them more for what you get. Nevería Arcoiris is a fantastic place for authentic and affordable Mexican food. Located on 10th street in the North Bottoms, the storefront is nothing fancy, but don't let that dissuade you from coming in. They have a full menu of authentic Mexican dishes, as well as a great selection of Mexican desserts and treats (a nevería is a Mexican ice cream parlor). The prices are very reasonable. For 5.95 I had the Enchiladas Michoacanas with chorizo. The dish was garnished with avocado slices and came with rice and beans. The food was great, and a bargain. A quick anecdote: On my most recent visit I ordered dinner to go, and was asked which sauce I wanted. When I said 'the hottest' they asked if I wanted 'really hot.' After my enthusiastic 'Yes' they went back to the back to get what I assume (based on its orange color and distinct flavor) was a Habanero sauce. Delicious! read more

As a transplant from Arizona, I'm really picky about the places I eat Mexican food. This nevería never disappoints whether you go for a quick lunch, dinner, or snack. I personally like to refer to it as the "rainbow ice cream store" to my non-Spanish speaking friends since that is the English translation of the name! There are two locations- this one on 10th St is a full restaurant serving a large selection of food, ice cream and fruit cups. Food options range from my favorite tortas (sandwiches with your choice of meat, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, jalapeños, onions on a toasted bolillo roll) to your standard casual Mexican fare like tacos and enchiladas. They do offer seafood options like cocteles (shrimp cocktails) and siete mares (fish stew) as well. Drinks are large 32 ounce cups so you never feel like you didn't get enough! If you are looking for a snack or sweet treat, they have something for you! One of my favorites is the delicious street corn from a tiny cup to a giant, corn extravaganza! This corn in a cup or, if you prefer, on the cob, is streamed corn mixed with mayo, lime, chile, and parmesan cheese. Also available are fruit cups full of mango spears, pineapple, watermelon, cucumber, jicama or a combination! Servers will add lime and tajin if that is your preference. They have a fair selection of unique ice cream flavors and offers options like mangonadas, mangos with chamoy, chile and lime, to milkshakes and sundaes. If you aren't sure, take a chance! The prices are so low, you will have money left over to hit Taco Bell if you hate it. I can almost guarantee that you'll keep that leftover money in your pocket! I had the Friday special today, a giant burrito. You choose the meat. I chose pork. $5.00. $5.00 for a giant, delicious burrito and a basket of chips. I did have to request some hot salsa as the first bowl they served had no heat at all. The dessert menu looked amazing, but I was too full to do more than just oooh and ahhhh. Maybe next time. La Neveria was recommended to me by some of my coworkers who are very picky about their Mexican food. I was not disappointed in the slightest! Upon entering, I was greeted by amiable faces that showed us to our table. The environment of the restaurant was friendly and smelled of tangy spice and sugary cones. It seems like a strange combination, but for some inexplicable reason, it works so well. We were seated and the chips and salsa were on the table before we could even sit down. While I stuffed myself with the saucy picante salsa, I peered over the seemingly endless selection. The menu was filled to the brim with options each being equally as mouthwatering, but I am a sucker for tacos so I ordered those. They came out minutes after my order and I instantly started wolfing them down. Wow! They were some of the best authentic tacos I had ever had! As my Hispanic friends would say, they are not "a white man's take on tacos" but instead the perfect combination of flavorful carne, cilantro, and onions perfectly embraced by warm, yellow corn tortillas. I quickly downed all four of them and was absolutely stuffed. As you all know, there is always room for ice cream! The icecream was delectable as expected! I thought I was crammed full of food before but the icecream put me over the top. I was borderline uncomfortable, on the brink of sweating, but in a good way. I received my ticket and was pleasantly surprised by the low price considering all of the delectable food that I had just eaten. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys great Mexican food! Some of the best tacos I've had! If you get 5 it comes out a little cheaper and it is a reasonable price for what you get. Tacos come topped with cooked onions and cilantro and sometimes a grilled jalapeño pepper! I haven't had the chance to try the ice cream yet but I'm sure it's delicious! I had a meatless Huarache. The base is fried corn dough that when it is cooked has a thin waffle consistency. Then beans and cheese and lettuce are layered over it with avocado. I could have ordered any kind of meat to put on it as well, even chorizo. I went there with a girl who grew up in Mexico and this place and this dish are both favorites of hers, and now favorites of mine !
