Still continues to be a solid 5-star experience for me and one of the best Mexican spots in Lincoln. Lunch specials, highly reasonable $8-10 range. Recently I did the fajitas again (so good) and tried the shredded beef chimichanga. The queso sauce is good, I even saw fresh jalepenos in the pico served alongside it. I love the traditional salsa, but I always get the hot verde as well, and additionally can never pass on their signature watermelon jalepeno margarita. Service is spectacular, efficient and quick. Last time we ordered food was out in under ten minutes. This is an old converted Pizza Hut, and they have put their own style on it. What a great spot in Lincoln! read more

Service was quick and prompt. Loved the decor (carved horses in the booths and on the chairs) and the food was amazing!

Their not horsing around. Thick chips scoop smokey salsa, and sneakily fill patrons. The ambient sounds of Mexican music and equestrian furniture set the tone for an authentic meal. Our server is kind and attentive to our tables needs filling drinks as they quickly empty on a hot day. read more

It's like they prepared the food for everybody, but failed for anybody. Oh, the flan is here. Is flan supposed to be grainy? It's more like bread pudding. The thing most missing here is flavor. Great place for a solo lunch. This location is so unassuming and out of the way that I didn't really think to stop here until today but I'm happy that I did. If you're a chile verde fan like I am, I can wholeheartedly recommend theirs- so flavorful and significantly spicier than the usual, definitely not the dull canned stuff most places serve. The service was very fast and friendly enough, the place is clean with interesting carved tables and seating, and everything I tried was fresh and delicious. One small caveat- don't order the iced tea. Just trust me, it's no good. But from start to finish that's the only complaint I can make about my experience! read more

You can tell that they take their time and care about the quality of the food they serve. The service: amazing. All of the waitresses are so nice and helpful. If you go during the day, the service is great, and they answer your questions. Tonight we went, and the waitress, who spoke little to us and did not understand my question. I asked about a dish under the chicken section to see if it could be done with shrimp, and she said si. I ordered it with shrimp, and no onions, and added a side of beans. It comes out chicken, with onions no beans. Told her it was wrong, she said shrimp, and she went and brought cold shrimp and some beans. And I paid for queso that was cold before my meal came. When I got the bill, I was charged for the chicken meal, a side of shrimp, and my beans. Explained to the owner, they stood at the waitress area talking. I handed them the money to pay the bill and said I won't be back. No tip. Train your staff to understand the customer. Don't just agree and not understand. I love El Potrero on the South end of town and eat there frequently. I recently door dashed some food and my order was sent to the downtown location. I ordered beef flautas, which were near hollow inside with literally one shred of beef in each one. It was also really soggy. I was disappointed since my experiences at the South location are amazing with food and service. I also ordered bean dip and queso dip, for like $7 each. I received the bean dip as expected but the $7 queso came in a plastic cup, the same size they put free salsa in. Besides $15 hollow, soggy flautas, the food was delicious, however, I'll stick with the South location. read more

Driving back to Michigan from Colorado and we stayed in Lincoln Nebraska. We had a hankering for Mexican food but all the place we searched were more of a fast food restaurant. Then we found El Porto and decided to give it a try. The exterior is a bit unassuming, but once we were inside it provided a quaint Mexican atmosphere. Food was great, prices were excellent, and the service was spot on. When we come through Lincoln again we will definitely stop in to El Porto for dinner. read more
