In addition to the scope of the project itself, we had an additional layer of complexity given we needed the work completed within no more than 3 months due to a new baby joining the family shortly thereafter. Of the three construction firms we received bids from, Uniplex was the only company willing to commit to and stand by a firm timeline without sacrificing scope or quality. Their bid was extremely detailed -- reducing any uncertainty in what was expected and allowing the project to progress seamlessly -- and the price was on par with the other bids received. The supervisor assigned to our project was one of the nicest people I've met in the construction industry. He went above and beyond to ensure the house was clean at the end of each work day (since we were living in it while construction was underway), brought donuts for our daughter enjoy in the morning, and texted whenever there were changes or updates worth noting. Uniplex took what could have been an incredibly stressful home renovation and gave us the confidence that we would end up with a home perfect for our growing family -- which we did. The first group of Uniplex guys that did the emergency clean up/board up were friendly and I thought the board up was done nicely. Then it went downhill from there. We waited months for a permit. We kept asking for an update and were told it was all submitted and permit should be ready any day. The blame was put on the city, so we continued to be patient. Finally one day, I decided to call the city myself and see if I could speed things along. Turns out, the ball was not rolling at all. The city has specific instructions when applying for the permit, the contractor and the engineer they chose (both to blame) did not follow the instructions and never replied to an email from someone in the permit office. So the permit delay was all on them, not the city. When asked about this or any other issue, there was always some elaborate excuse trying to shift blame. They were cutting corners, for example replacing part of the basement wall when insurance had approved full replacement of wall. In an earlier walk through talking about what would be done with our insurance agent and their guy, it was agreed whole basement wall would be replaced but when the work was being done and I saw it was only about half being replaced, I questioned it and they denied ever saying whole wall would be replaced. They didn't even put up plastic to stop the spread of dust from old cinderblocks being sawed into until I asked them about it (after days of dust spreading throughout the home). Then when we had questions about a billing charge, it would be ignored. We brought up errors in the billing and they were unwilling to even discuss it. Our insurance adjuster was kind enough to try and help us by contacting them and mediate a discussion. She should not have had to do that but just shows how difficult they were to work with. 2 stars only because the initial response was good and for the most part stuck to a schedule once the permit was actually submitted properly & approved. However after that, seemed dishonest and shady once we started questioning their work and billing for things that weren't done. I would not recommend them.

After a couple of text messages and email, I visited System Pavers' show room at Redmond, Wa. I signed a contract. Zach is the project manager. He visited the worksite a few times and met with me. Moreover, Zach constantly ke=pt me updated for the progresses of there project. He is very professional and nice. I am very happy with the final results. As promised, he showed up to give a fair and honest estimate to install drywall, apply mud and spray texture. We look forward to the actual repair later this week! **update G Nieto came as promised on Friday morning to install the drywall and put on the mud. With the drywall and mud, the ceiling looked so much better. The drywall and mud required necessary time to dry and as such, he said that he would return Saturday afternoon. As promised, he returned Saturday afternoon to do the dirty texture work. He prepped the area with plastic to prevent significant dust from spreading throughout the kitchen. After sanding the area, he spray textured to match and it came out perfect. I highly recommend G Nieto and give him a perfect 5/5 rating.
