My friend recommended this chocolate shop to me as some of the best chocolate you can get around here. As a chocolate lover, I had to check it out. It's located in Union Station shops on the highest floor. The store itself is tiny and offers boxes as well as individual chocolates. I was a bit surprised at the small selection they had, but I guess they focus on quality over quantity. And let me tell you -- after trying these chocolates, they live up to the hype. Layers of delicious chocolate, each with different textures to make each bite a full journey. The chocolates are often crafted with different flavors; for example the pink heart chocolate in my photo had a hint of rose, while the brown one had a hint of cherry. These chocolates are pretty pricey, but definitely worth it for an occasional treat. Boxes were like $50-$100. Highly recommend if you can afford it. I should note: they offered to sign me up for their free insider program upon my order. I did and they gave me some free chocolates for it. Title: Online customers: check shelf life before buying I have been buying Neuhaus Milk Chocolate Salted Caramel bars since 2024 and consider myself a loyal customer. I bought 10 bars online on 8/14/25 to give as gifts. The packaging shows a production date of 7/23/24 and a Best Before Date of 10/22/25, so they only had about 2 months of shelf life when I bought them. The mistakes I made were assuming that premium chocolates would have a longer shelf life and not realizing that the BBD for the chocolates I would receive was not communicated at the time of purchase. I only noticed the BBD when I tried to give one as a treat in November, and my friend pointed out it had expired. Based on my experience, Neuhaus only mentions a minimum 4-week shelf-life guarantee in the FAQ, which most buyers won't see at checkout. Their refund and replacement policy is very strict -- customer service confirmed that chocolates past the BBD cannot be refunded or replaced, even if unopened. Because of this, I strongly recommend making sure you are aware of the BBD before purchasing, especially if buying for gifts throughout the year. One of my all time favorite chocolates!! I first discovered Neuhaus at this location and I was hooked. Anytime I'm in the DC area now a stop at this shop is a must. The chocolate can be pricy but believe me it's worth it. It's a perfect combination of smooth silkiness and doesn't melt too easily. The chocolate bars are so delicious. My other favorite is the assorted chocolates. It's just amazing chocolate. I feel like I've been cheated my whole life until I tried these. The shop is a little small but they still have quite the variety from boxes to bars, your own assortment, wine pairing chocolates and all kinds of other goodies, it's located inside union station and not hard to find at all. Visited here to shop for a Thank You gift to my best friend. Junior, who was working behind the counter, provided the best customer service ever! He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient as he took the time to help me put together a perfect box of hand-picked chocolates. Even offered a couple of pieces as samples which I fully enjoyed as they were just scrumptious! I ended up going over my budget a little, but it was all worth it! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this chocolatier on my way out of Union Station! I had heard of this Belgian brand as very high-end, but I had never had a chance to try any Neuhaus chocolates until today. These chocolates are so well-made and heavenly. The texture is so smooth and delicious, and the flavoring and artistry are perhaps only barely surpassed by Swiss-branded Teuscher chocolates. The girl working at the chocolate counter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with chocolate selections. She was very friendly and wrapped the chocolates so nicely that I was faced with a big dilemma: I really wanted to eat the chocolates inside the box, but I did not want to ruin the beautiful bow she made with the colorful ribbon around the gift box. It's great to know there is a location for Neuhaus chocolates in America that can ship them anywhere around the country. I usually get the "No, we do not" answer when I pose if there are any Vegan options & whoa Nelly, they had a few different items to choose from. After a quick tutelage bestowed upon me on the ingredients & history of NC, I was offered samples. I passed on the covered Almonds this go around, yet tried the Brussels Collection Orangettes. Simple terms, they are candied orange peel covered in dark chocolate...SUCCULENT VEGAN FRIENDLY CHOCOLATE HEAVEN! Quick history told to the customers that walk in: Jean Neuhaus settles in Brussels and opens a pharmacy in the prestigious Galerie de la Reine. He covers his medicines in a layer of chocolate to make them more palatable. Is there a Candied Doctor in the house?! I bought 3 & consumed them all on the way home. Lovely place with THE BEST CHOCOLATE. I am sort of a chocolate fanatic and this store has some of the most delicious chocolates in town. Forget about Godiva and other so-called chocolatiers. This place has absolutely the best Belgian chocolate. It's like you're in Europe, but you happen to be in Union Station. Their truffles are out of this world! My favorite is the dark chocolate covered orange peels. Such a treat! The only down side to this place is that it is very small. If you happen to be there when there are a handful of customers staff gets so overwhelmed that it becomes a slow and unpleasant experience. Buy these, and some jewelry, also you may want to move to another country. Neuhaus has been in the business since 1857 and began in Brussels and in my opinion is one the best chocolatiers in DC. They now have a convenient store front in Union Station, which is superbly staffed. Each of their chocolates (especially the pralines) have a subtle taste, not overwhelming, and not overstuffed with nougat, nuts or other distractions. I recommend the discovery collection, so that you can try a whole collection of pralines. There is also a sommelier collection which provides 16 pieces of chocolate and a brochure noting their wine pairings. I've said enough, just go! read more

Wandering around Union Station, we are drawn to the Chocolatier sign, which led to two incredibly friendly and welcoming gals who quickly had us totally charmed. Of course, the dazzling array of amazing chocolates had something to do with it, but Neuhaus, do know you've got the right staff here! Knowledgeable and excellent salespeople! Watch out, because when you point to one they will lovingly describe what's in it, and you will have them adding that to your bag as well. Before we knew it, we were giving in to the sights and sounds of many to take back to our hotel room. Now here's the extra amazing part...our selections only totaled twelve bucks! We seriously feared we were going to be paying more for this caliber of chocolate goodness. For the next two nights, we treated ourselves to these tasty morsels, and they were ALL exceptional! Husband was beyond enamored with their marzipans. Said it was the best he's ever had. Extra likes for me were the ones that had slight crunches to them. Why no pics? Neuhaus is a Belgian chocolatier. The staff was friendly, but I was disappointed that we were not offered any samples since the chocolates are expensive and you want to know what you are getting. We purchased a box for a gift and a few to try ourselves. The Plaisir is dark chocolate with a crisp, sweet nougatine (a confection made with sugar or honey) surrounding a creamy, hazelnut ganache. The Caprice is dark chocolate with a nougatine shell and a Madagascar vanilla cream center. We were told that this was Princess Di's favorite, but I generally don't trust skinny people when it comes to food. Both were delicious. But there are so many artisanal chocolatiers now, I imagine the appeal comes from the pretty truffles and the history of this brand. It's a great place to stop for a gift in Union Station. read more

I tried the chocolate dipped shortbread and I hate to say this, but I think I like these more than the Hawaiian chocolate dipped shortbreads I've had before. All of it's good here. I've never been treated worse than I have by her. She actually yelled at me for taking too long to put my mask on, and shouted at me that I needed to leave. I've never been treated so poorly. I got three bags, one for myself, two for coworkers. I would say 18 chocolates set me back $27. It's pricey stuff, but it is very very good chocolate and what's a few dollars to perk up my and my coworkers' day? My service was great. Got two chocolates handed to me!! Woohoo samples!! The store manager was the one who helped me and handed me his card should I ever have the need to do a special-er order. I had told him I went to NY to buy some chocolates and ship them for my mom. The store has most of the chocolates, but the NYC store on Madison is obviously a flagship. And yes, I spent over $100 for three boxes and $15 on shipping, but my momma is worth it. Absolutely fantastic chocolate! As we speak, I am struggling not to eat my entire purchase in one sitting. To me, chocolate and fruit go together like peanut butter and jelly. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the dark chocolate strawberry bar I just got. Silky smooth dark chocolate filled with sweet, juicy fruit filling (*gasp* Were those REAL strawberry seeds?!). Nope, that bar didn't stand a chance. I also bought a dark chocolate and praline bar as well as a bouchette (dark chocolate covered marzipan). The texture of bouchette, namely the marzipan inside, was a little strange for my taste. I expected smooth and creamy but it was a bit grainy. I'll pass on that next time. The dark chocolate and praline bar had a chocolate, almond, and hazelnut filling. I expected something with a just little more crunch; maybe bits of almond or hazelnut inside. Nevertheless it was still good... just not enough "texture" for my own personal taste. The shop may be tiny, but it's full of flavors. There were boxes of cognac, scotch, and whisky filled chocolates, at least a half dozen containers full of tiny, colorful, foil-wrapped filled eggs in all different flavors (an adorable adornment to any Easter basket, I would imagine), a variety of chocolate bars and chocolate covered somethings (nuts, coffee beans, etc.) even some boxes of cookies. The glass case in the front of the store was the star of the show, filled with an overwhelming array of truffles, caramels, cornets (chocolate confections wrapped in a small foil cone), carres (flavored marzipan squares), ganaches (chocolates with a smooth, creamy filling) and more. The young lady behind the counter helped me narrow down my options and find my fruit filled treats. She even gave me one of the strawberry filled mini chocolate eggs to try. It was absolutely delicious. One bite and my mouth was filled with a tsunami of sweet strawberry goodness. I have to be careful because I could eat those by the pound (but at $60 per pound, my wallet would not be pleased with me. Ditto for my waistline.). I wish I had more time to check out everything they had to offer. Since I'm in this area so often, I'm sure I'll be back very soon. read more

Incredible chocolate at $54 per pound. I got an assortment of 6 pieces for a little less than $12. Given the price and the location, I still prefer Leonidas chocolate (a little cheaper and more stuff to do at its Georgetown location). Leonidas also has more fruit flavored milk and white chocolate while Neuhaus only offers fruit flavor with their dark chocolate. Go pick up a box if you are near Union Station and it will make you very happy (just don't look at the price tag). read more

There is a good selection of delicious chocolates, including dark, white, milk varieties and chocolate covered fruits. I hope that the recent glaring lapse in service is a fluke. So here's the story: I'm meeting my girlfriend's mom for the first time. Being Black and non-Asian all at the same time doesn't usually bode well when meeting traditional, Korean parents. So in order to win her over, I have to use my charm, my manners, and a little bit of sweetness. That's where Neuhaus Chocolate comes in. I have to be at the Tenlytown Metro station in an hour. The only catch is that I'm coming from the Silver Spring Metro station. That ride usually takes about 45 minutes, but luckily it's not rush hour so I might have some time to spare. I arrive at Union Station with about 15 minutes to go. I run up the escalator and scramble around the station looking for Godiva. I wasn't too sure if they had one so I was at a loss. However, I did spot a chocolate store called Neuhaus Chocolate that looked just as good. Plus, they looked to be a bit cheaper than Godiva. I bought a little gift-sized chocolate box and hopped on the Red Line. While on the train I started to get paranoid. What if she thinks, "He's trying to impress me and he doesn't have the smarts to get me Godiva. I've never even heard of this place!" I was sweating bullets. Luckily I got to Tenlytown with about a minute to spare. On top of that, they were running late, so I was able to stop myself from sweating like a pig, which would have ruined any chance at making a good first impression. Conclusion: Mrs. Kim was pleased with the gift. I know because when I called my girlfriend the next day, she said that her mom had devoured them. I guess it didn't matter that I got them from a chocolatier that didn't have Godiva written on the window. All that mattered was that the chocolate was stellar. What's the relationship between my girlfriend's mother and I? Well, she doesn't hate me. And for a traditional Korean mother to a Black male, that's a relationship that deserves 5 stars. The chocolate at Neuhaus is absolutely divine! I haven't met a piece of chocolate there that I didn't love. I've had other high end chocolate before(read: Godiva), but it just doesn't hold it a candle to the silky smooth flavors of Neuhaus. That being said, the customer service that I have experienced in this store is atrocious. Hence the one star rating. I , like most people, never carry cash on me.; but apparently in Neuhaus if you are not spending $50 on chocolate your business is not welcome. I have been told on SEVERAL occasions that my purchase is "to little" to accept a debit card. I'm sorry I missed the sign that there has to be a minimum dollar amount purchase! Oh that's right, there isn't one! It is extremely insulting to be purchasing four pieces of chocolate for $7 and being told that I am not spending enough money. For that, I'm not sure if I will go back again. Although I love love love this chocolate, my dignity is worth so much more. read more

I went in to pick up some chocolates for my Valentine this past Februrary for two reasons: they have good chocolate, and she said it was her favorite (the second being the most important). Upon entering, I was greeted by a few friendly employees and a host of options to choose from. I asked if I could put a custom box of chocolates together, since the Valentine has issues with any type of nut (which is odd why she's with me, since I'm a bit nutty myself), but I digress. The ladies behind the counter were more than helpful in putting together hand chosen chocolates in a heart shaped box, all wrapped in a beautiful bow and placed in a fancy bag with red tissue paper for the Hallmark Holiday. For the whole thing, my check came to around $32 for about 20-25 pieces of candy, which I thought was pretty good. I'll definitely be back to Neuhaus, and not just because she told me so. read more

The owner was very rude. I've been in a few times and the rest of her staff was nice, but she seemed to go out of her way belittle them in front of me the customer. I also am a huge fan of salted caramel in general, but the salted caramel's here aren't that good. The salt is inside the chocolate at Neuhaus which dilutes its impact. I would much rather have the salt on the outside like at most places so I can get the full contrast of flavors. Finally, my other pet peeve is that she has a $5 minimum for the use of a credit or debit card. Neuhaus gives Godiva some serious competition. These chocolates are fancy, nicely packaged, delicious, and a perfect gift for any occasion. Life is like a box of chocolates, but with Neuhaus I have yet to bite into a chocolate I didn't like. Real Belgium chocolate, creamy inside, and a rich flavor (so rich that you have to take a break after eating over 3 in a row). More elusive than Godiva or Sees Candy because there are only 3 stores in the nation! Very nice packaging and the assortment come in a variety of sizes and are around the same pricing as any other chocolatier shop (~$30 for a box of 17). Service is wonderful, and the owner is a very adept saleswoman. She is very friendly and gave me many samples which were all very good. She even offered to get ice for me to make sure the chocolates wouldn't melt in the heat. So why 4 stars not 5? Because Neuhaus is ON PAR with Godiva, but not necessarily THE BEST chocolate I have ever had. They are undoubtedly very good, but I am not yet addicted to these chocolates. I may need to come again and reevaluate to confirm if Neuhaus does indeed deserve 5 stars.
