Since I first saw a picture of my father's Austin Healey Sprite, I always wanted an English 2 seater. 2 years ago I bought a MG Midget that was a "10 footer." I decided to make it a project and bring back the car to its former self. While having my engine work done at the machine shop I asked about restoration shops. He gave me Netcong Restoration as a referral as he was doing some work for them. I drove up and talked to Phillip and Hal. I got an estimate and decided I would strip the car down myself and have it delivered to be blasted, metal work done, and then painted. Hal and the crew did a great job replacing the rusted outside metal and repairing previous damage found that turned out to be a little more than anticiapted. The car was painted a beautiful older British Racing Green, giving a more classic look than the 70s type green it was painted in. The car is almost complete now as I have rebuilt the suspension, replaced the carpet, and cleaned every bit that went back in including rewrapping the wire looms. Now she just needs the engine dropped in. Good timing as the weather should be getting nicer soon. The car looks like she came off the production line back in the 70s, but with nicer paint! Not long ago I picked up my car from Netcong Auto Restorations, boy am I happy! I took it to them for a new paint job as there was some rust that was developing under the old paint. As the work began some old damage from an old collision was discovered and... well one thing led to another and I decided that a total frame off restoration was the only proper way to get the car back into shape. My tired old car underwent an amazing transformation while it was in the capable hands of the folks at Netcong. The workers was incredible, and the pride they took in their work was something that is hard to find nowadays. In stripping the Rangoon Red paint, I was informed that original color was Ivy Green. With no pressure to increase scope of work, I opted to return the car to its original color which also involved changing the interior from a red/white pony interior to a black pony interior as well as changing the convertible top and boot cover from white to black. I also opted to add a dual exhaust system to the car which involved modifying the rear of the vehicle under the bumper. The entire staff was very professional and courteous throughout the entire project. The final product was fantastic and I still get enthusiastic compliments on the paint job from many admirers almost two years after completion. I needed some body work on my car after someone scraped it in a parking lot. At the same time I decided to spruce it up with new wheels and "blacking-out" the trim, and de-badging the make and model from the back. I had the worst experience of my life with this company. They charge for estimates, the contract most of their work and they charge ridiculous prices and don't stand behind what was done. Plus I understand the owner and his wife declared bankruptcy and the company declared bankruptcy in Jan 2014! .My opinion find a more reputable place with experience and does all their own work. He says Netcong has been in business for 30 or 40 years..whatever..the wej that owns the place just brought the place a few years ago...so that's misleading itself...says enough. read more
