Checked out Nepenthe a couple weeks ago since a friend mentioned it was fairly new and they hadn't tried it yet. It was a weeknight so not too busy and everything is spaced out well. I ordered the werewolf deathgrip (American kolsch) and it was pretty good. I also ordered the burger and it was really enjoyed it.. The only reason I'm taking off a star is for the price. The burger is $15 & the small fries are $6, which is kind of a lot for how much you get. My real pet peeve is giving one ramekin of sauce and charging extra for any additional sauce. People love sauce, just give them enough for their fries! Other than that small issue, I'd definitely come back. read more

Great beer, snacks and sandwiches, but parking is at a premium. It's a great spot to run in and grab a beer and a sandwich, though it could be a bit pricey if you plan to make a long evening of imbibing. Beers run $6 to $8 for a 16 oz (and that's a good range), but for me the really good hi-test ones hit the $8 plateau. Three of us went last week, eating Garage fries (each choosing one of the unique sauces) and a Korean Cheesesteak (me), fried chicken sandwich, and a falafel pita. The fries were $5 and the sandwiches were $12, except for mine, $14. All were delicious! They also have wine, cider, soda, kombucha and a few house cocktails. There's also a few vegan and vegetarian options. Glass sizes range goes from 4 oz to Growler, so one could actually get a beer for * 2 bucks. The brewery is downstairs along with the brew store. There's a singular disc golf range downstairs also. It was medium loud during our visit and fairly crowded. Absolutely worth checking out. read more

Amazing food that came out very quickly (plates and glasses sat on the table for hours) and a very decorated selection of beers but with only 2 bartenders the line wrapped around the bar and took 30+min to get drinks so after a few drinks we just left. The space in Nepenthe is really fun, industrial, and contemporary. This, sadly, is the best part of this new addition to the vibrant restaurant culture in Hampden. Two of us came here last night for dinner and a beer. We were pleased to find that Tuesday is Happy Hour All Night. Yay! We ordered the Old Bay wings and the Disco Fries. For me, the wings were so salty they were inedible. My companion also agreed they were salty but ate them all. The fries were good, smothered in beer cheese and we added bacon. Also...salty. If you don't sit at the bar, you order at the bar and return to your table and await your order. We had a cocoa beer that was just fine. The service was fine. I noticed a lot of the beers here are...flavored. Not my thing. The best part of our visit here was exploring the building, going downstairs, and meeting a super friendly dog in the brew shop. While Nepenthe hits all the hipster buttons: family-style seating, tattooed bartenders, industrial interior, young crowd-- the food is really not-so-great. The beer is just OK. I would still rather go to a bar and drink Natty Boh with better and more nutritious food. read more

This is such a great addition to the neighborhood! For several years my friends have been brewing from ingredients found at Nepenthe's previous location in Clipper Mill, much to my benefit. I'm grateful to know that I will still reap my friends' hard work thanks to the awesome and expanded brew store at the new location. But more importantly, I'm grateful that now I can drink beer straight from the source as they've expanded to have a full brewery and kitchen. Their brews have so far all been both, delicious, well-balanced and varied in options. And their sandwiches and fries do not disappoint. Nepenthe is an awesome brewing company at the bottom of 36th street. It has excellent beer and very good selection of appetizers. I had the wings and the fried pickles and they were delicious. The decor feels right for a brewpub. Love the animal murals on the back wall. They feel a little non-sequitur but are still cool. My only complaint is that I don't love the lack of servers, and the line at the middle of the bar where one must cue up to order everything. Perhaps I'm just old school but I love table service. Ordering a bunch of beers and having to balance them back to the table is something I was paid to do years ago and I would gladly pay someone well to do it for me today. read more

Nepenthe replaced a really wack sports bar that was in the previous location. It has that industrial contemporary look to it and in an open inviting space. They specialize in beer which is not my thing, but i tasted a sip or two of a friends. By way of what i ordered, i did the cheese steak, for $13 it was pricey and very small. It didnt even come with fries which is an extra $2, i passed on that. The beer cheese they use is good, but just expensive for a sandwich. I tasted a piece of a friends burger it was ok, as well. I had a couple of drinks Smoke berry (2) and bourbon peach (1) along with a cider. Cocktails are $10, but a $1 off during HH. Their menu is basically appetizers and sandwiches, i have no aversion if someone drags me there, but i wont willingly go on my own since the sandwiches are a tad on the pricey side. I'm writing about the new brewpub as opposed the homebrew shop (which was also great). Pros: * Excellent beer. Many breweries struggle as they get used to their new equipment. Not Nepenthe - every beer on their menu is great * Great food - the burger is awesome (you definitely should order it with the house made bacon - it make it extra awesome) * Good atmosphere/service. - the bartenders do a great job explaining what the beers are like and move through the crowd quickly. Cons: * I like the burger so much, I'm worried I will never try anything else on the menu. * There is no lot so you have to find a spot. The beer is terrible, but you should go anyways because the quality of the food more than makes up for it. The beer tastes just like your friend's homebrew that you politely sip and try to find nice things to say about, but the food is fantastic. Great spices on the fried chicken sandwiches. Wide range of options to fit your mood, from healthy salads to beer cheese and chorizo fundido. For covid, it's a nice, spacious, well-ventilated, and clean space. Oh, and you don't have to drink the bad beer - they have a full bar and self-service water station. Sweet! read more

Beer is decent. The food is decent. However, some suggestions: - the chicken sandwich tastes delicious, but it's a VERY small piece of flattened chicken. For $12, it should be a meatier piece. - the "large" fries should be a little bigger as well. They're supposed to be shareable, but it's more like a side. Potatoes aren't very expensive ... also, they're a little too over salted and little over cooked. - the side of pickles had about three small pickles. The sandwich is listed in the menu as coming with a side of pickles ... but, it's more like they accidentally fell on the plate. There should be more for sure. Just a little stingy I think. First stop in. Great space---well thought out, open, enjoyable to sit and relax, even with a lot of people. Ordered across the menu with my partner and, all in all, the food was just mediocre. Underwhelming $12+ burgers, but solid fries (additional $). The best item we had was the beer cheese fritters...unfortunately they were $10 for four fritters. A theme with the food is that everything seems to be overpriced by a dollar or two relative to quality and size, especially given all of the great, affordable options nearby on The Avenue. With all of that said, the beers were just disappointing. Tasting across the menu, the recurring theme was a lack of body and structure. One note, lacking aromatics (especially for the IPAs), and immediately vanishing from the palate. None were offensive, and none were memorable. I laud them for trying to have a "fizzy yellow beer" and an ESB, but both fell way short. Multiple IPAs built in the trendy style with trendy hops...but there are many better Baltimorean options. Hoping this is the "work out the kinks" phase with respect to their menu, pricing, and brew system. They were out of three beers and two food items on a Saturday afternoon, so this speaks to that point. Will revisit in a couple of months and hope for the best. read more

Nepenthe was an amazing experience. We had Buffalo garlic Parmesan wings, fries, beer queso fundido, and the beet carpaccio. All of the food was amazing and the vibe was great. They don't put anything to tap that isn't a great beer. Service is prompt and good. It stays busy but they do a great job. Food is really, really good. Visited this place yesterday. I was very impressed. They had 14 beers on the tap list (mainly IPAs and sours) and a nice menu to boot. The beers were definitely above average. Also, included is a Homebrew store so if you need supplies, hit this spot up. The space inside was open, kid friendly, and I loved the garage door that can open to see the street. The layout is well thought out with coat hangers below each table for coats and purses. They also had USB and plugs on the front of the bar to use for patrons. The other things that stood out is parking may be tough at times and I didn't see any Stouts/Porter's on the tap list. Also, you have to order at the bar and I think the line would be long when it is packed. read more

Best part you get in sit down and finally get a drink & order food and then told by bartender when you get another drink you don't have any time left ummm when we sat down nobody told us we had a time limit thanks for making us feel unwanted staff!! Their food and beer continue to get better with each visit. Despite the difficult situation with COVID, the service and quality continue to be a high standard. I have done curbside pickup at least 1x a month and the order is always correct, on time and the servers are friendly. Was really impressed by this place! Visited the homebrew shop first before heading to the tasting room- incredible selection of supplies and really knowledgeable cashier/employee working down there. Once we got to the tasting room, we were surprised by the amount of space. Tons of tables and they even have a kitchen that is separate from the bar itself. Didn't grab any food this time, but checked out the menu and they had some good options. I also thought it was awesome that they had other drink options than beer for those that are non-beer drinkers. Yet they still had an impressive draft list. My only criticism would be the lack of dark beers, but even then I was still satisfied with all of the interesting styles and flavors imparted into the beers.
