Came here for dinner, and it was really good! It's definitely a hole in the wall, so don't let the modest exterior steer you away, the food and service here is awesome! We only met one person who worked there- she greeted us when we came in, sat us, took our orders, and served us. She was so friendly, and she was helpful in answering questions about the menu. For food, we split the chicken momos and and the papri chat, and these were both excellent. If you just got the papri chat, that would actually be an awesome meal! For my entree, I got the lamb thukpa. It was just what I was looking for- warm broth with flavorful lamb, and it felt nourishing with the veggies that are in there as well. I got 3/5 spice which was perfect for me, but I can take a little heat as well. The prices were also more than reasonable, especially with the generous portions! Others in our group got the chicken tikka masala, and everyone was satisfied with that dish as well. Overall, loved my meal here, and I'll definitely be back! read more

Even better than I expected. It is very obvious that a lot of care and passion goes into making the food here at Nepali Kitchen. I started out with mixed appetizer platter which had 1-2 pieces of the first five appetizers on the menu. It was all fried in a homemade batter and was very good. My favorite was the vegetable samosa which is the large, triangular item in my picture. It had a perfect mixture of thick seasoned mashed potatoes and peas inside the flakey shell. For my main course I tried to convince the server to come up with a sampler platter of various entrées but there was a little bit of a language and communications barrier between her and I. What I ended up with was the fried rice entrée with all the different meats and vegetables. It was fantastic though. The meats were all cooked very well and the seasoning of the rice and all of the meats went together perfectly. One of the shrimps still had part of its tail, which I did not realize until it was in my mouth, but other than that I have no complaints. I also ordered a side of Bhatura, which is a traditional, fluffy deep-fried bread. It reminded me a lot of a freshly fried elephant ear from the fair, just without the powdered sugar. It came with two pieces but I accidentally ate one before snapping the picture! For dessert I tried the Kheer, a Napali style rice pudding. It was only ok. I like various Mediterranean styles better. Their customer service is way off and the communication about the food is also way off. The appearance of the place is a bit run down when you walk inside. They try to offer me curry goat and I wouldn't accept it because I asked for curry chicken. With all that being said I thought the food was very good and the curry sauce had just enough spice to satisfy you. This is one of those reviews I hate to post, and somehow feel I've missed something. Given all the glowing comments on Nepali, both here and from friends, I wonder if maybe I just hit them on an off night. I got the Vegetable Navratan and the Nepali special naan. Basically, both were generally lackluster almost to being bland. The Nepali naan was just a basic naan. Not sure if that's what Nepali naan is, or if the order was processed incorrectly. The korma really lacked any kind of wow factor in the seasonings and spices that I love out of Indian food. It pretty looked and tasted like a bag of mixed frozen vegetables stirred into some basic grocery story tomato curry. Like I said - hate to leave this but have to be honest. I will definitely try them again given all the 5 stars, but this first experience was not anywhere in that league. read more

They have found a new regular costumer. Authentic!!!!!! Giving 5 stars for their food and hospitality. Momos won't get any real than this and the dipping sauce for the momo was very authentic. The lo mein (called chow mein in Nepal) was also real tasty. We also ordered Khasi ko bhuttan. Boy I was glad I ordered it; it was the best goat dish I have had in a while. Cuyahoga National Park is within 5 minutes, get their food ToGo for like a picnic or something. read more

Any independently-owned business that sets up shop on gritty Cuyahoga Falls Ave raises an eyebrow, and this one should make nearby residents happy, who are probably aching to see something - anything - new emerge in their neighborhood. The pictures below don't lie: the interior is the waiting room at your childhood dentist's office, converted into a makeshift dining space. There's a flat screen TV in the dining room blasting the droning beats of dance music videos from India, one after another. It's an oddly engrossing spectacle that almost overshadows the dining experience. These videos take synchronized group dancing to a whole new level that makes Michael Jackson's "Thriller" look low budget. A lead male prances around in an elaborate costume followed by hundreds of gyrating, imitating followers as they glide their way through prairies, palaces, cities, mountains and jungles. Oddly, the male leads almost all have mustaches (non-ironically), and yet they are still presented as sex objects. The simplified menu offers some familiar names for those who know Indian food: paneer, butter chicken, chicken tikka, samosas. I can't speak to how similar these Nepalese variants are to their Indian counterparts, but what we tried was flavorful, interesting and well-seasoned. The "chow mein" was a nice discovery. Chewy egg noodles like the Chinese version, but tossed with all sorts of different things such as lima beans, corn, carrot, cabbage, and in our case, marinated and fried pork. Lots of dried spices tossed in with the noodles gave the dish an exotic flair. The vegetarian "momos," which I envisioned crammed with moist potatoes and spices and peas, were disappointingly under-stuffed and cabbagey, but they still tasted hand-made and fresh, an appreciated detail. The mango lassi was like drinking a liquid mango; sweet, creamy and refreshing. Overall, if you are curious and adventurous eater who likes to venture off the beaten path, Nepali deserves a monthly slot in your routine. read more

While I have never had Nepalese food before, all of the food tasted more like homestyle cooking than restaurant-style cooking. It all tasted a bit plain and underseasoned, and some of the elements appeared clunky, e.g. the spaghetti-like noodles in the Thukpa, the thickness of the momo shells, and the density of the momo filling. Hem (the owner) is a beacon of light for his community and he is helping bridge a huge social gap by bringing us together with amazing food. I had a taste for a Indian food so I figured I'd give this place a try. I ordered the mixed platter, chicken tikka masala, and paneer gheeu, with a side of bhatura, raita, and ras malai for carryout. The mixed platter was delicious and quite possibly the highlight of the whole meal. I was disappointed the chicken tikka masala and the paneer gheeu seemed to have the exact same curry base, both underwhelming in flavor, color, and consistency. Acquaintances recommended this place to me, so I decided to give it a try for lunch today. I sat outside, as it was a nice day and the dining area inside is small. The tables and chairs they have set up outside are attractive, but Cuyahoga Falls Ave. is busy. I started with the Gundruk soup, which I liked a lot. It was rather spicy, but also had what I believe was cilantro, which for me is a cool taste. Several different tastes, in fact, which made it interesting and tasty for me. Then I had the Mutton/Goat curry. I don't know if it was made with mutton, which is lamb, or goat. The meat had a different taste, so perhaps goat. I asked the waitress for medium hot. I could not have handled it any hotter. Spicy, but not so hot that I couldn't taste the flavors - which, again, were varied and not what I'm used to at the Raj Mahal, an Indian restaurant on State Rd less than a mile away. I thought the curry was good, though not as different from the norm as the soup, which I really enjoyed. Never having been to Nepal, or even a Nepalese restaurant, I can't speak to the authenticity of the dishes. I will say, however, that there was a steady stream of customers while I sat there on the patio, and they all looked as if they could have been Nepalese - or Indian, or Pakastani, or.... In fact, as I drove away, I noticed many such faces in the neighborhood. There is evidently a Nepalese community in that part of Akron now. Nice local place! I ordered the mutton fried rice, gundruk soup and drank a mango lassi. The mango lassi is a yogurt style drink (think smoothie). It was creamy, delicious and great for a warm afternoon. The gundruk was delicious, spicy and sweet. The mutton was a mountain of fried rice with lots of veggies and juicy sweet lamb. Couldn't finish it off because the mutton serving was so generous. Overall loved this place and I will come back again. The staff were all very nice and prompt with the food. read more

Been meaning to try Nepali Kitchen for months, finally stopped in, glad i did. Not exactly the place for atmosphere, but the food is great. I tried the mutton chowmein, spicy. Lots of veggies in the mix, and lots of meat, and it was SPICY! Had the mango lassi (for a fire-extinguisher); good flavor & texture, not watered down with ice. Will try the strawberry lassi next, and the thukpa, momos, and right on down the menu. Considering the prices, this could get to be a weekly visit. Second visit: lamb thukpa. I drove past this place 4 times because at first I thought it was an abandoned building. It's in a pretty rough area of North Hill in Akron and the appearance is pretty run down. When we went inside we saw that the inside was just as bad as the out. Very outdated, dirty and cheaply furnished. There was nobody in there so we tried to sit down but we're promptly told we could not be served because they were closing in a half hour. My family ordered the samosas, vegetable chowmein, chicken chowmein, vegetable momos and vegetable thukpa for carry-out. Our order was ready in 20 minutes. The samosas were wonderful - crisp on the outside, the right blend of potatoes and peas on the inside. I'd never had momos, and was pleasantly surprised! They were very flavorful steamed wontons, full of vegetables. The vegetable chowmein had a nice balance of spices. My husband thought the chicken chowmein was too spicy, but he still ate all of it! My daughter enjoyed the thukpa, she thought it was the right amount of heat and flavor. My only criticism is that the pictures on the website weren't quite right. The momos look more like steamed buns than wontons, and the samosas are pictured with a thin type wrapper. Our samosas had a thicker type crust, which I prefer. We'll order from there again! We went to Nepali Kitchen to try something new and different. We were very pleased with what we found. Outstanding authentic Nepali food. Pork Thupka was a rich broth full of homemade noodles pork potatoes and beans with outstanding warm spicy flavor. The Mutton curry was rich and hearty with a nice spice level at 3 next time may try 4. We loved the homemade bread came out hot and loved it for dipping in the curry sauce. I hadn't been to Nepali kitchen in some time, but unfortunately I feel the quality has gone downhill. For those that haven't been, first, you shouldn't expect much of anything for atmosphere or service. It would be very helpful if the menu had photos, but it does not, making ordering challenging. That being said, in general the food is authentic and flavorful, but there were some let-downs this time for us: I ordered the thukpa soup with chicken - it arrived luke warm, 90% noodles, and the chicken breast had been fried for some reason, making it hard and nearly inedible. I left most of the soup behind. My fiancé got the special kahna dinner which came with an appetizer sampler - the portion was huge, but if you're not into everything you eat being fried or soaked in oil, this may not be the place for you. I feel there are ways to make food flavorful and authentic without drowning everything in oil...and while I'm no Nepali food expert, I can say that this was a disappointing visit as compared to my first experience. I appreciate the authentic offering and hard work of the owners, but I think it's only fair that those considering dining here have their expectations set. read more

I live in North Hill, and this is singlehandedly the best restaurant in the neighborhood. If you are curious to try Nepali cuisine, or just a different type of ethnic food in general, do yourself a favor and get takeout from Nepali Kitchen. It's owned by a Nepali family, so everything is authentic and made with care. The staff is extremely kind and accommodating. I walked in one time asking if I could order takeout on the spot instead of calling ahead, and the woman I spoke with said they usually just do call-ahead orders but would help me out. About 15 minutes later, my food was done and still fresh and hot after I walked home with it. The restaurant itself is a bit tiny -- I ate there once with a large group and it was a bit crammed. As I said before, takeout is the way to go. The chow mein is EXCEPTIONAL - unlike any chow mein I've ever had from an Asian restaurant. It's my go-to at Nepali Kitchen for sure. There's even a video on YouTube where the owner shows how he makes it, for those curious. The samosas and curry were phenomenal as well. Be aware of the spice level, though... they ask you how spicy you want your food, using a 1-5 rating system. The 5 level is VERY hot, and 1 isn't spicy at all. I usually get a 2, or I'll get a 3 if I want some heat. Anything above that is too much for me, personally. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, but I've heard you can still hang out and order chicken and beer, which is kind of funny but awesome. It seems like the menu prices have gotten a little higher recently, but it makes sense with the rising demand for this amazing food. Also, their old menu said they delivered, but last time I called and asked they said they do not deliver anymore. North Hill might not seem like much, but people and authentic restaurants like these are well worth the trip. read more

If you know me at all, you'll know that this restaurant is exactly my type of joint: cheap, tasty and authentic. I've had this place bookmarked for ages, but always put off actually coming in. Truth be told, the building isn't much more than a shack and looks pretty dubious from the outside. Upon entering however, you'll be greeted with a medley of good smells and a big smile. This restaurant serves both take-out and table service, although the seating is quite limited. The interior is spare to say the least... it reminds you kind of walking into someone's living room; there's a TV blaring lively music videos and walls decorated with a variety of Nepali paintings juxtaposed next to a poster of the Statue of Liberty. I suppose I imagined ordering here would be overwhelming or difficult, but that really wasn't the case at all. You'll notice a lot of the names are quite similar to Indian dishes, and there are definitions for each type of main dish, which is really helpful. I sort of wished they had a picture menu, but I was able to order just fine anyways. I felt as though I really wanted try one of everything, and ended up settling on one order each of vegetable pakora and samosas, along with a mango lassi. For my main I ordered the mutton curry as well as a side of roti (similar to pita or naan but a little flatter and chewier).The pakora and samosas were delightful They had a variety of different types of pakora while the samosas were quite a bit bigger than I've had at other places and packed with big chunks of potato. As for the curry, it is flavorwise a bit different than Indian curries I've had, not an entire departure, but certainly different enough to be called unique. I didn't care for mutton, but they did have plenty of proteins to choose from for each of their mains, so I think I'd just switch it up next time. The thing I like the best is that I was able to order the curry spicy. Now if you're like me, and you ACTUALLY like things spicy, you get a bit disappointed when you order things that way and you end up finding that they are barely over the level of average hot sauce when you taste it. This place actually make my dish spicy, and it was the perfect level of spice for me. The curry dish itself was pretty small, but was served with a healthy dose of basmati rice and the roti was a perfect compliment. I ended up having lots of leftovers since I obviously over ordered for one, but I was surprised that my bill came to only $25. While the portions aren't huge, they are fairly generous and priced reasonably, so really you can try a lot of different things and not feel overstuffed or too spendy. I couldn't really find fault with anything regarding my experience here, I found the server to be very sweet and attentive, and while the inside is minimal, it was very clean inside. I will most definitely be back, although likely in carry-out capacity. I found this place to be oddly charming and welcoming, perhaps it's the feeling that it isn't trying to be anything that it isn't.... there's a layer of true genuineness to this restaurant which I loved. The best curry in the Akron area. If you don't know, Nepali food is very similar to Indian food (Nepal and India are neighbors...). The paneer gheeu is amazing, and will be familiar to patrons of Indian restaurants. Don't expect naan though - the poori and bhatura (both fried breads, the only real difference is the size) are incredible, and the roti (a whole wheat flatbreat, similar to a thick wheat tortilla) is a delicious, slightly healthier option. The momo are wonderful dumplings. A word to the wise - hot means hot! The spicy pickles and spicy momo dipping sauce are both very spicy! Ordering a side of raita can help temper that heat. Spiciness scale is 1-5, so each step up is a pretty big step! Order conservatively the first time, and if it's not hot enough, order one higher the next time - trust me, there will be a next time. read more
