We're also surprised and grateful that Dr. Yen, treated us like family, constantly trying to save us money, he tirelessly and patiently explaining to my husband, twice I think, how and why treating three different areas in one visit, saving at least $2,300 than what my husband's brother suggested better to split into three or more different visits. Dr. Yen called and checked on me @ 7:00 pm tonight, after he saw more patients after he extracted, cleaned, and bone grafted my #30 tooth, and cleaned #31 all done by 4:00 PM (in less than an hour), I am so impressed, he kept me informed of the different types of surgery procedures all throughout the surgery, I only felt very minimal pain from the local anesthesia needle, no pain, no swelling, no bleeding as far as I could tell, how's it possible? The lengthy instructions clearly stated to use ice packs, 10 mins on 10 mins off for first 24 hrs (3 packs were provided), then warm heat packs for next 24 hrs to break up swelling and minimize bruising, I tried for less than 30 mins while driving home post surgery, then stopped, since there's no need, no swelling, no bleeding, and no bruising at all. I am so thankful for Dr. Yen's incredible expertise, and Dr. Yen is so humble, he asked me how do I know he's done such an amazing job? Obviously, I cannot stop glowing about Dr. Nelson Yen and the staff at his office. It looks like the bone medication that I was given over a year ago by my primary physician has had a horrible side effect as I've lost two implants. This experience has been painful, expensive and a bit traumatic. The "expensive" part could've been so much worse but Dr. Yen did everything he could to help ease the blow and it was so very much appreciated. The one saving grace in all of this is the way that Dr. Yen has taken care of, not only me, but also the situation. He has been so attentive and empathetic. I know that it upsets him as much as it upsets me, to have had to endure the loss of two implants. Dr. Yen was the one that brought to attention the fact that I was on medication that had this dire effect. I just never thought to put the two together. Dr. Yen is the top professional to see for dental implants. I now have 6 implants which have never once given me any trouble - each of my implants has been 100% successful. He used only superior quality cadaver bone for grafting my bone-deficient jaw areas. Dr. Nelson has a great facility and staff to support his personalized care. I presented him with a known cracked tooth that was the source of an ongoing infection in the gum area adjacent. Unfortunately this resulted in bone loss. Dr. Nelson spent quality time explaining the three treatment options I faced, his style included drawing me pictures that helped me visualize the process and prepare me for the procedure. On the day of my procedure, I learned that Dr. Nelson had consulted with my general dentist and the two collaborated to ensure a good outcome. The surgical procedure went well, his administration of conscious sedation assured my comfort. Although I'm only at step two, of a multi-step process, I'm confident the outcome will be exactly my desire. After an absolutely horrifying and uncomfortable experience at a dentist in Huntington Beach, I was redirected to Dr. Yen's office located among other offices within the St. Jude Heritage group. Thankfully, I was able to get an appointment, which believe me, is not easy. Dr. Yen and ALL of his staff are amazing, I can't say enough positive things about them. I'm an individual who is deathly afraid of the dentist (no exaggeration!) which is why I was in desperate need in the first place (100% my own fault). Everyone treated me with kid gloves which I greatly appreciated. To my complete and utter surprise, my appointments over the past year were pretty much painless and I am super grateful for these gentle professionals. All of my procedures are now complete and now I just go for regular cleanings. There is a reason why they're so busy and the waiting room is always packed. This is one of the nicest dental offices you will ever see. It is super clean and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. My parents have had procedures done by Dr. Yen and they could not be happier with his work. I had to see Dr. Yen for a bone graft and also to pull out a wisdom tooth. I did not feel anxious at all prior or during the procedure as he continually monitors you and talks to you to see how you are doing. He also provided an eye mask to put over your eyes which made me feel even more comfortable during the procedure. Dr. Yen is also great during follow up visits and takes the time to explain to you about what is going on. He'll also call you to see how you are doing. If you're going to get your teeth cleaned, you should also see if you can get Kristi. She does a great job and will give you one of the most thorough cleanings you will ever receive. During my consultation with Dr. Yen, he spent an hour talking with me about my particular case, and made sure I was completely informed and comfortable about the surgery he was recommending. Dr. Yen performed a gum graft on my four lower front teeth and the results were unbelievable! The surgery lasted 45 minutes and I was extremely relaxed the entire time. I was awake for the entire surgery and did not feel an ounce of pain. Dr. Yen was very calming and made sure I was comfortable throughout the surgery. He is professional, welcoming, and more then anything, he genuinely cares about his patients. When I got home from the surgery, he called and gave me his personal cell phone incase I had any questions or concerns. My recovery was was as amazing as the surgery itself; I felt very little discomfort and was able to begin regular activities within 3 days. I was referred to Dr. Yen by my dentist for an evaluation, as he specializes in periodontics. Prior to my visit, I had to call multiple times across the span of several weeks before someone actually answered and when someone finally did, I wasn't able to get an appointment until over three months out. On top of that, when I tried to call a few days prior to my visit to inquire about how much the visit was anticipated to cost, the receptionist Amber was really unhelpful and stated very matter-of-factly that they just bill your insurance and you owe whatever they don't pay. However, I was merely trying to ask for the exact amount, as I know dentists can pre-authorize any treatment in advance to get an exact total of what the patient will likely owe. It was evident that Amber wasn't even trying to help me; to make matters worse, she mentioned that I might need additional x-rays because the ones my regular dentist provided to her were considered traditional and might not be detailed enough for Dr. Yen. This made me nervous, as I knew additional x-rays could cost $200+ more, considering insurance coverage really stinks nowadays. Despite my initial negative impressions, I'm glad I kept my appointment because Dr. Yen himself and his assistant really made my visit pleasant. Dr. Yen has a very gentle bedside manner and is extremely thorough, respectful, honest and knowledgeable. He was able to provide me with some recommendations and didn't try to upsell me on any unnecessary procedures, nor did he feel a need to take additional x-rays. Besides having a great experience with Dr. Yen himself, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the office, as well as the ease of parking, as there's plenty of parking in the adjoining structure and they validate. I highly recommend seeking Dr. Nelson Yen for a consultation, as not all periodontist are created the same! Dr. Nelson Yen recommended that I wait and get fillings, instead of getting extractions and implants, which was the complete opposite of what several periodontists advised in the area! A year has passed and my teeth are still intact! This alone should give you enough reason to seek Dr. Yen.. I've decided to update my review and provide 'yelpers' a more in-depth explanation of my experience. My opponent was missing his jump shots. I wanted to conserve my energy for offense, so I planted both of my feet and raised my hands while he took another 3-point jump shot. Which might have been a mistake since the basketball game had to stop abruptly as my opponent elbowed my two front teeth while coming down. I felt one my of front teeth dislocate (I popped the tooth back in place but cracked) and a quarter of the other tooth was broken off. Not only was this a nightmare, it was 8pm on a Tuesday night which meant no one was available. The level of stress and panic set in full flight the following morning as I was sure that I needed dental implants. I scheduled 3 dentist appointments and all referred me to 3 periodontists in the area. I wanted to get work done immediately, but I just did not feel comfortable with any of them to move forward. So I searched for another periodontist and found Dr. Nelson Yen on Yelp. He noticed my state of mind (fight or flight) and instantly helped put my mind at ease by listening to my concerns and needs. He then advised, "It may appear that I needed implants but implants were "not" necessary. Instead, I should get fillings in lieu of getting implants". I vividly recall being shocked as the 3 previous dentists and periodontists were adamant that the only viable option was to get implants. He clearly cares for his patients and apparent that he is looking at things long-term instead of making a quick buck. (I am now a patient of his for life). Even though Dr. Yen surgically places implants, he honestly told me that they were not necessary in my situation. Prior seeing Dr Yen, I have checked with my dentist's office to see if they could do implants on my lower left and right. On my lower left, my dentist told me, I did not have a problem for an implant but on the right since I had bone loss there, so there was no way they could do an implant unless I wear a bridge which I did not want it! I came home and told my mom my problem and she referred me to see Dr Yen. My mom also had several implants done with him and she was very happy. I totally gave Dr. Yen a fully trust when I first met him because I know I am in a good hand. I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Nelson Yen! I typically don't write Yelp reviews for non restaurants, but I was extremely impressed with my time here. During initial consultation, Dr. Yen used a 4D scanner to check where my nerves were located in my mouth to avoid touching them when removing my wisdom teeth. He was very comforting and reassuring throughout the whole visit, and after a phone call for pre surgery, I came in to get my teeth taken out. On the day of the surgery, Dr. Yen was very calming and made me feel comfortable immediately even though I was slightly nervous. After he started the IV on me, I completely knocked out, and woke up to my teeth out and my gums stitched together. I received a sheet of instructions to follow after the surgery, and he had also prescribed me antibiotics and painkillers post surgery. Dr. Yen is a very professional and an amazing dentist overall. He makes you feel at home even though it is the dentist's office, and he checked up afterwards as well to ensure that everything was going well. Wait times in the lobby was always short, and Dr. Yen is a very caring doctor. I had gum grafting and an extraction 9 years ago by Dr Yen. I can't say enough great things about him. He's patient, caring, and really takes the time to explain and address any concerns. He was meticulous in my surgery and called me afterward to personally check in. He monitors my gum condition even now and I see the hygienists in his office 3x/year for cleanings (alternating with my regular dentist). I recommend Dr. Yen for your periodontal needs. It's very pricey but you don't want to cut corners when it comes to your oral health care. While I give Dr Yen a full 5 star rating, his front office staff does not deliver the same friendly and warm service. In all of these years going to that office, I can't think of 1 front desk employee who has ever been genuinely warm and friendly. If you are ever in need of any periodontal treatment Dr. Yen is the doctor to see! I was referred to Dr. Yen by my primary dentist for crown lengthening surgery in preparation for placement of new crowns. Long story short my old crowns were placed in a way that they were causing my gums to be inflamed. Being that my crowns are on my six front teeth aesthetics were a very important factor. Not only do my gums look healthier than I can ever remember they are aesthetically perfect. I could not be happier with how everything turned out. Not only does Dr. Yen do great work, he also is wonderful on a personal level - so professional and really listens to and cares about what you have to say. There are oral surgeons and there are good oral surgeons. Dr. Yen is one of the few good oral surgeons. In my interactions with Dr. Yen, I've always found him to be caring, yet professional. He doesn't talk over you; instead, he gives you the big picture and helps you understand the little details. When you hire Dr. Yen, it's '...as good as it gets!' (5 star rating) If you like friendly and professional staff, his staff is all that. If unexpected things happen, you tell them what is going on with you and they understand completely. Some people have opined privately that the charges are above average so that they can cover the cost of the beautiful office, but that's just wrong; good work and good staff cost money. Dr. Yen's work is at the top and what his office charges is not for the frugal. If costs are more important to you than results, look somewhere else and remember, you get what you pay for. Dr. Yen is a good surgeon. I had severe gum recession in the lower teeth and he did a good job covering the roots. I was hoping for an aesthetically better result--i.e. a higher gum line--but I trust that was not possible. The biggest problem for me and the main reason for which I'm not going back for my upper gums is the front desk. I found them standoffish, cold, and borderline rude. I read other reviews that are saying similar things about the people working there, especially the person in charge of finances. I fear the front desk is harming their business, and they should do something about it. read more

I was recently referred for a gum rescission issue and was admittedly a bit hesitant as I'd heard horror stories from friends who had similar surgeries due to the pain and recovery involved. At least 6 years ago, I began felt the tenderness at the gum below an old root-cannel tooth. My ex-dentist found there is an extra tooth imbedded in the close vicinity. I was told then everything was fine and just not to press the area to avoid further complications. Fast forward to February 2018, a yellow tip filled with pus popped out at the problem area. The ex-dentist said I need an implant. My gum became visibly infected. I have to take course after course of the antibacterial medications to prevent it from spreading. By then, I have lost confidence on the dentist who I have seen for 20 years. Desperately in need of immediate help, I sincerely prayed for God's guidance. Then something wonderful happened! After reading all the Yelp reviews on Dr. Yen, I decided he is the one - an experienced dental surgeon who is well respected in his field of services. At the 1st appointment, Dr. Yen ordered the full mouth X-Ray to determine the scope of bone damage. He was very generous to offer me a free 3D Scan in order to pin pointing the source of my problem. Dr. Yen is precise, detail-minded and very compassionate. I felt very comfortable to be his patient. He was surprised that I would travel 2+ hours from Burbank to Fullerton to seeking for his help and promised to do his best to help me. My treatment started with the Bone Graft in April, then the Implant in August. All went well and healed well. It rebuilt my dental bone for the substitute tooth as well as stopped the drainage of my energy caused by the chronic infection. I definitely feel better now than before. Thanks to Dr. Yen! Let me first say I am not a patient of Dr. Yen. My family member is and this is based on my experience taking said family member. My grandmother is older and needs help getting to her appts. I also have a one year old who she loves to go with us places. Recently I took her to Dr. Yens and the lack of professionalism and over all kindness from the front staff is beyond me. I would never stay in the waiting room if my son was screaming or crying. In fact I went for a walk with him once my grandma was taken back to her appt. when I went to pick her up she was laughing with the ladies at the counter about my son. Whomever the receptionist was looked at me and said " well I hope he's is up at 2 am making as much noise for you as he made in here today!" I'm sorry, what? So incredibly rude. I was maybe in the waiting room a total of 15 minutes and that was the reaction. Overall I would recommend Dr Yen. Dr Yen is amazing!!!!! I had a terrible experience with an oral surgeon in Yorba Linda and had to have my implant removed. Dr Yen was so gentle, thorough and calming throughout the process. His office is immaculate and his staff is awesome. I barely felt the injections to numb my mouth which is always a blessing. When he told me I was done, I was in tears. Never did I intend to replace a tooth I had lost years ago, thinking that I had learn to hide the toothless gap with a crooked smile, so why bother? And of course there was the issue of dealing with my holistic side that rejected the thought of foreign metal in my tissue. And of course the biggie: cost. Well,....to hell with all that because after so many years, I just want my tooth back! Dr. Yen is not the cheapest, but if there's one lesson I've learned in my 33 years of existence, it is that (in most cases) you truly get what you pay for. I have never met a doctor who was so un-intimidating, patient, caring, and attentive to my needs. He was the most academically qualified in the 4 different surgeons I visited-and I have to warn you that you should never let a regular DDS put in a dental implant as most have only attended a weekend implant seminar b4 performing implants on unsuspecting clients (am I reminding you of those $1200 implant + crown ads in the newspaper?). Dr. Yen and his staff continue to impress me with their professional and friendly service. I am never afraid to ask questions, never afraid to send him an email or give him a call if I have any concern. My implant process has been very successful and Dr. Yen has always been there to help with any concerns I had. I urge anyone looking for a doctor of any kind, to look for one that you are not intimidated by, one that you have access to if you have concerns or just general questions, and most importantly, one that is patient and doesn't make you feel like they are so busy, they don't have time to deal with you. Dr. Yen has really changed how I choose doctors of any kind in the future. He is truly one-of--a-kind. I recommend anyone interested in implants to at least give him a chance at a consultation, once you meet him, you will understand why I give him such high props! You should absolutely become a patient of his for a handful of reasons, some of which I will list for you now: Three years ago I needed major mouth restoration. I'm talking about eight implants and some dental crowns, people! Dr. Yen worked in tandem with my primary dentist, Dr. Quentin Goodman and all I can say is that I am still amazed with the results. When you walk into Dr. Yen's, you can tell immediately that professionalism and consideration for each patient is a priority. Dr. Yen's medical staff is kind and interested in the journey you are about to take. They make you feel as comfortable as possible and they never treat you like a number on a chart. Dr. Yen himself is the epitome of patience and compassion. He will explain exactly what he will be doing prior to any procedure and will answer any and all questions you may have. He even calls you in the evening to make sure that you are doing well. Very considerate! I was extremely nervous to take the first steps toward getting dental implants, especially because my sister was going through the same procedure in Colorado and she was having a horrible, nightmare of a time as her experience. For me to walk into Dr. Yen's knowing what my sister was going through and that the dental work I needed to have done was going to take such surgical skill and precision was a confidence shaker. I didn't know Dr. Yen yet but I did trust my Dr. Goodman so I took that leap of faith and I am so glad that I did! Dr. Yen took such good care of me. I was very nervous getting an implant amongst other dental work. I've had some very bad dentists who made big mistakes. Dr Yen fixed all the previous dental work and my mouth healed quick. Dr Yen who also has helped my Dad did an impeccable job and always calls after the procedure was done to see how I was feeling. He cares and makes sure there are no mistakes. For three years I've been wearing full dentures with adhesives that have been very time consuming and troublesome everyday. Dr. Yen was able to put two implants which made it so perfect for me to never need an adhesive again! I had another consultation that was very complicated and expensive from another dental service and am so lucky someone referred Dr. Yen and Dr. Myers who worked together to make everything a perfect fit. I was referred to Dr. Yen by my dentist. From the first moment you walk into the office, you get a feeling of confidence. The office is beautifully designed and spotless. Dr. Yen spent a great amount of time explaining and outlining the steps and phases of treatment which I needed.He showed a very calm, friendly and professional demeanor. He stated to me that in order for me to gain trust in him, he would have to earn it. His explanation of my upcoming treatment was very precise and thorough. At the end of my first visit, he wrote down and gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him at any time if I had any questions or concerns.My treatment required that Dr. Yen perform surgery. My schedule is very busy due to my work and since Dr. Yen is such a great Peridontist, his schedule is very booked. So Dr. Yen decided to schedule my surgery on his day off to accommodate me. That same night after my surgery, Dr. Yen called and spoke to my wife to see how I was doing and told her to let him know if I needed anything. The next step was having my implant surgery. Dr. Yen again scheduled me on his day off. And again he called me at night to check in on me. The results of my treatment are phenomenal. Dr. Yen is so knowledgeable and a true professional. Throughout the time of my treatment, I had a lot of appointments at the office. I did not always meet directly with Dr. Yen, but he would always make a point to stop in and say hello, ask me how everything was going and tell me to say hi to my wife. I am so happy I was referred to Dr. Nelson Yen at Regenerative Solutions in Fullerton. He and his entire staff are professional, caring and thorough. The instructions he gave for pre and post surgery were very detailed and easy to understand. During surgery Dr. Yen was intent on making sure I was comfortable and not in pain, often checking to make sure I was ok and he even called me the evening of the surgery to see how I was feeling. He is a gifted surgeon who doesn't take any shortcuts and I'm sure I'll never have any problems with the implant he did for me. He's an amazing doctor with an excellent (well earned) reputation and on top of that he's just a really nice person with a great sense of humor and a knack for putting you at ease.
