Upon checkout the cashier did not have enough in her drawer to cover it so she called what I will assume was the manager. During this call tje cashier became visibly uncomfortable . I believe she was being reprimanded. She then told me that in the future I could not use the machine in the morning. (There are no signs anywhere stating this). The manager came with the cash and a bad attitude. She never spoke. She was just rude. They handed me cash and stood there and I quote "oh we are done. You can go". Either take the machine out or post hours that you want it used. Don't be rude to me for using a service that you provide! The manager needs customer service training. I came in happy and left frustrated and mad. Do better.

We didn't have reservations (and we should have - it's teeny tiny inside) but the waitress/bartender graciously accommodated us. Don't balk at the prices either - your meal includes a generous cheese and bread board (can't beat fresh rolls!), salad, usually one side and then dessert which was a delicate lemon bar with blueberries when we visited - sharp, sweet and packed with lemony goodness Tucked in a corner of Nelson County in the basement of an old church, it's a small, cozy, local gem - I mean, I ordered a Diet Coke and needed to wait like 10 minutes because they were out making a grocery run to restock - it's that small! But I LOVE the idea of a local joint serving up really good grub and stepping out to the local grocer for their soft drink Bottom Line: don't miss this stop the next time you are touring Nelson County wine country!

I love this place because they are nice to me. They remember my from year to year, and they just make me feel welcome and happy. Okay, Ashley's Market does that too, but they are way further up the road! Oh, and my husband loves this place because the gas is corn free, and the price is always right. Plus, he gets a kick out of filling from the old style pumps from before the pumps became gas dispensing ATM machines that play non-stop commercials. Parking is limited, but if you live in Wintergreen, Graves Market should be your go-to stop before you start up the mountain and check-in before you go because there is not a cell service at that location.

If you're driving along TN Hwy and feeling parched because you…read moredropped / spilled / forgot your cup of ice, learned (painfully) the metal water bottle is hotter than the pavement outside, the a/c is not working well, the car spews waves of heat into the air as it gasps on the last drops of gas fumes in the tank, and now you're hallucinating palm trees, coconuts and umbrella drinks on every broken stripe on the highway, take heart. Around the next bend is Shady's. Shady's is a standard convenience store/gas station. It's a little drab on the inside, but the people who work here are pretty awesome and that brightens it up. The a/c functions (I think), the beverage coolers are well stocked with every type of liquid refreshment, there are plenty of snacks, the gas pumps work, and the stray cats outside begging for food are really good at it. The day I stopped in, Shady's air conditioning wasn't working and the employee was sitting outside in the shade; but compared with the inside of my car, I could have been at the north pole. The cold water numbed my frustration, but then so did the friendly employee who apologized for the lack of air conditioning and then spent time commiserating. I don't know though, she only might have been pretending empathy once I started talking about the umbrella drinks in the middle of the highway.
