This past weekend we were shocked to find a quarter machine on the public bathroom. Who carry's cash anymore? I went back out to my car to find a quarter to use the restroom and thought ok this must be pretty clean now. Oh no it had paper on the floor. Toilet was disgusting. If you're going to make people pay to use a public bathroom, then I would suggest making it cleaner. This will be our last visit there.

Around the next bend is Shady's. Shady's is a standard convenience store/gas station. It's a little drab on the inside, but the people who work here are pretty awesome and that brightens it up. The a/c functions (I think), the beverage coolers are well stocked with every type of liquid refreshment, there are plenty of snacks, the gas pumps work, and the stray cats outside begging for food are really good at it. The day I stopped in, Shady's air conditioning wasn't working and the employee was sitting outside in the shade; but compared with the inside of my car, I could have been at the north pole. The cold water numbed my frustration, but then so did the friendly employee who apologized for the lack of air conditioning and then spent time commiserating. I don't know though, she only might have been pretending empathy once I started talking about the umbrella drinks in the middle of the highway.

For a gas station without much around, it was a good meal at a reasonable price. I went with the 3-piece dinner, which gets you a thigh, wing, drumstick, and two sides. There were a few options and I went with scalloped potatoes and onion rings... Oh, and a dinner roll. For $9.99 it felt pretty reasonable. Chicken and sides were warm. Chicken was crispy, good seasoning, but not complex flavor. Onion rings are real onion rings (not minced) and batter fried. Scalloped potatoes were better than expected and they were a decent portion. In the end, it was good fried chicken from a gas station, though I don't think I'd go out of the way for it. Driving past at meal time and it's a reasonable option that won't break the bank.
