THE PIZZA GETS ALL 5 STARS... My expectations were low, very low...But it was better than most chains... THAT IS ALL

The market will quickly become your go to place when you're at wintergreen. The market is located on the wintergreen property just down the hill from the mountain inn where you check in. It serves the resort community and local residents. You don't need any proof of staying at the resort to shop there. The market has a variety of things. Firstly, it has gas and not at an exorbitant price either. The price of gas matched what was at the bottom of the mountain. The market has the toiletries, home products, food and drink - all that you could need. It is a micro grocery store. I was able to find what I needed there. The food was actually really good, so good that I bought lunch and dinner there one day. I highly recommend the the three ridges sandwich if you like Italian sandwiches. The pizza was also really delicious. I ordered pizzas for dinner when I stopped in to get lunch. You're able to time request your order and pick up times. They only have one size of pizza, 16". Two pizzas were PLENTY to feed four people. The only drawback to me are the hours. When you're out doing activities, rushing to be back to visit the store at a certain time is tough. All the other food places at the resort were sit down and if you just wanted a grab and go place for food, the market is really your only option. If the hours for the store and the food counter could extend, I think that would suit the needs of the visitors better. Overall, great place!

I've been coming to Wintergreen for almost 20 years, including stops by The Market for gas or groceries. But only a few weeks back did I get a sandwich there. Man have I been missing out. Had the turkey Ruben Saturday, the Eagle Swoop (roast chicken breast, smoked Gouda, pepper dressing in ciabatta) Sunday, and the Rodeo Ruben today. Freshly made, generously proportioned, and delicious. The pizza is made before your eyes, is slightly buttery, no sugar in the sauce, and tasty as can be. This place is a hidden gem. If you come to WtG without eating here, your missing out.

Horrible food. Very expensive and we got a case of water for 15$ that's insane. Don't think this place is worth it at all.

And then returned for a delicious brunch on Sunday morning before heading home. The wine selection was not what my husband or I would like to drink with a nice dinner, but when we asked our waiter if there was a more extensive list she was able to check the back and came out with a delicious wine (Caymus) that we both love and were so glad they had on hand. The pricing for the bottle was also excellent, not an extravagant up charge. Julia was our waitress both evenings and she was absolutely fabulous, excellent taste in meal choices and so attentive. With covid having made some of the dining options at Wintergreen close it was so nice to have this location available for a nicer meal. Our first night we enjoyed the chefs special broccoli/cheese soup, Pear & Goat Salad, chefs special of Duck, and the Classic New York Style Cheesecake. All were FABULOUS. The second evening we enjoyed the Soup De Jour, Pear & Goat Salad, baby gem Caesar, Sea scallops, and the Creme Brûlée. All our food was absolutely delicious and cooked exactly to what we ordered. 10/10 would recommend this place and we will most definitely return on our next trip to wintergreen.

But the beer had other ideas. As expected, it was excellent--cold, confident, and clearly in no mood to be rushed. Everything was clean and orderly. The burger arrived and did not disappoint. Honest, well-made, the sort of meal that reminds you why you ordered it in the first place. My wife's brisket sandwich, meanwhile, was everything brisket ought to be--tender, rich, and just indulgent enough to feel like a reward rather than a mistake. Fries came alongside, hot and crisp, doing their job without complaint or ceremony. And then, on the way out--as these things tend to happen--we stopped at the bar. That's where we met Vance. What followed was less a quick cocktail and more a conversation with drinks attached. The cocktails were excellent, but the company made them memorable. Vance makes a great adult beverage. All in all, Devil's Backbone isn't just a place to eat and drink. It's a place where a simple plan quietly turns into a better evening than you expected.

During the summer, there are BBQ areas and lots of out door seating. A large outside stage has bands and entertainment. There is a campground and RV area with shared shower houses. The restaurant has the "resident" stuffed bear. At the entrance. We were expecting a 15 min wait but were seated earlier. The menu has a beer and beverage menu. The dining menu has burgers, fries and vegetarian items. We enjoyed hot chocolate. Our friends had sandwiches and fries. I enjoyed the vegan chili. It was delicious. Spiral noodles didn't work in the Mac and cheese. The place wasn't crowded. I bet that the grounds would be crowded with guests during the summer.

When you're made to fill like you're burdening the staff before you even order, it's not a great start. I asked another local business was Chirios was and he responded, "depends on who's making your food" lol. I've worked in similar looking pizzerias, so the condition of the "kitchen" didn't concern me much. It actually kinda feels like you're in the back of house, rather than in a dining room. The local free library was interesting. I ordered a cold Italian. I wasn't expecting much when I first saw the bread, but the sandwich turned out to be decently tasty. My biggest complaint is the amount of oil added to the sub. The menu doesn't mention vinegar and oil, which made me worry the sandwich might be dry. I usually opt for vinegar but skip the oil. The Italian included both, but way to much oil. You can see in the pic, the amount of oil pooled in the to-go box. And that's after what soaked into the bread! I think I would have enjoyed the sub way more if I had asked for no oil. All that being said, I would def go back when I'm in the area.
