I find this grocery store is my favorite. I have lived in Buena Vista for over twenty years. This store is among the best grocery stores in the area. The store is clean and the prices are great. If I have trouble looking for an item. This is the only store in this area I do not have any problem looking for someone to help me. I find the Deli, produce, and meat/seafood are very fresh. All the check out areas always open. I do not need to wait to be checked out. The baggers are the best. They put items in my bags in the correct order. Like for instance, all my produce are together, meats, and etc. When I come I can pick up a bag put items in the correct places. Everyone who works there are very friendly. read more

The workers are amazing. They're kind and patient and helpful. This is in no way a reflection on them. But Kroger is a ridiculously wealthy nationwide grocery store and you all can't have a single lane open on a Friday night?? I'm so sick of big corporations constantly being cheap and screwing their customers. I've shopped here ever since I moved to the area. Officially switching to Food Lion. At least they have checkout folks. read more

Trash inventory and disgusting produce and meats. Barely any selection of decent, healthy food for families. Nearly every pick-up order or visit in store, we find expired foods, kids yogurts past dates and meats leaking fluids and simple things like organic strawberries and blackberries out of stock nearly weekly. Lexington has very few options for healthy and clean food and this store really needs to be replaced ASAP. Would much prefer a high-end Publix or ALDI compared to this Kroger. We could use a Trader Joe's too around here. Some of us do want organic and health-conscious options...this Kroger barely keeps up with new brands and healthy food for those of us here who pay for that. read more

Horrible experience! They would not honor the buy one get one listed on BD almonds. I showed them the price listed on the shelf. And add and they said the adds are wrong sometimes. They would not allow me to return. One of them. Then walking out the automatic door closed while was walking out and hit me in the shoulder kind of hard and the employees there laughed. Horrible place. Do not shop there. Just really bad people work there ! read more

Today it was advertised ALL kroger stores would be giving senior citizens 5% discount. Was told management said it only applied to large stores. Called Kroger and they gave me the discount. read more

Virginia has two different sales taxes. The two have no overlap. In other words, the tax is either one or the other. The higher tax is a 'general sales tax'. That rate is, in most locations in Virginia, 5.3%. However, in certain designated areas, it is 6% or 6.3% or 7%. The second sales tax applies only to 'food and personal hygiene items'. That rate is 2.5%. Unfortunately, Kroger does not--repeat NOT--indicate whether a given item on its itemized receipt of purchases is taxed at the higher or lower rate. Instead, there is simply a lump-sum figure for 'sales tax' on Kroger's receipts. One has no idea how the figure is arrived at. SHAME ON THEM! But, good riddance because Food Lion is going to get the overwhelming majority of the money I spend on groceries. And if Food Lion offered sushi, which it doesn't (but Kroger does), Food Lion would get ALL of my grocery business. Kroger management could fix this problem. But the people at the top are either sleep-walking or are too stupid to treat customers with respect. Or both. read more

3 out of the 4 times we've been here they have seen us coming to a lane to check out but close it down and force us to use self check out with a cart full of groceries. They will have 6 employees including the manager stand at the front counter all talking during this time instead of helping. The self check out is glitchy and you have to have an employee come over often to assist but they all stare at each other and try to decide who is going to come help and still take forever. They just do not care at this store at all. It is a shame because we always shop at Kroger, we like the store but after moving and this location being the only one nearby we will now be shopping elsewhere. read more

Disappointed that this store has moved away from plastic bags. Paper bags are just a recycle issue while plastic bags have multiple uses: everything from trash bags to kitty liter. North Carolina finally relaxed restrictions on plastic bags but now Lexington seems to be going in the opposite direction. read more

This has to be the WORST kroger in the country. In the latest installment of just about 20 years of indignities, just before noon on Father's day, two cashiers and about eight people in each line. Plenty of self=checkout which no one wants to use because it's f*ing crazy. My cashier's register freezes on the last of 4 Instacart orders, just before I'm up. She throws up her hands, and so do I. I say I would never set foot in this store except for the few specialty items they carry. She says she doesn't blame me and herself shops at the competition, 2 minutes away, where there are always ample cashiers and you can be in and out in 5 minutes. This store only exists because Lexington residents tolerates mediocrity. There are a very very few good and efficient employees, but management is an utter disaster. Avoid at all costs. read more

Employees don't consistently wear masks. When they do, they don't consistently cover their noses. A lot of Lexington residents are elderly. I want to feel like Kroger is safe for me and my family to shop at. Aside from all that, it's OK as a grocery store. Decent wine selection. Produce is OK. But they're a grocery store and they need to get real about hygiene. read more

I hope the manager, Brian Simpkins, doesn't ruin your Kroger. He was in Roanoke long enough to rip out our growler bar. That area was a gathering place for many people. It was well known that the growler bar was well loved by the community. Even though it brought in many customers, he replaced it with customer service. Good luck, Lexington. I hope he doesn't run you into the ground. read more

We just came here to get a few things before headed to the state park. It's a smaller store but has all the usual stuff and they're open Sunday mornings. I got what I needed quickly and headed out so no issues. read more

This store has greatly gone downhill since my initial review. The produce is so bruised and spoiled anymore it isn't worth carrying home. There are always a bunch of boxes and carts in that department where you cannot get a cart through. Attractive stores have well stocked shelves with clean, fresh produce, and are clean and open. The floors are often wet and littered with debris, which is a major fall hazard. In my last two visits there have been ladders and carts with ladders, totally empty but left to block the aisles and merchandise. The deli employees are indifferent and on two occasions I have been ignored and denied service. No chicken is prepared no matter what time you visit. So I opted for salad sushi, which wasn't the freshest, and now I'm sick. I hope I can avoid a trip to the ER. And as for checking out, I see they still have that mean, indifferent, grouchy woman at the self check out that no one wants to engage, and a back up at the full service check out. This was my last visit to this store until they clean up their act. read more

Kroger - the front of a grocery store - Grocery Near Me - Lexington, Virginia

The red haired woman who is often attending to the self checkout is out of control. I have had several unpleasant experiences with her and witnessed her being rude to other customers on numerous occasions too. When the scale messes up on the machine I just need help with it or an override. I do not need a condescending lecture about what I'm doing wrong. Also she is usually off to the side having personal chit chat with other employees when you need assistance. The attitude problem is astonishing though, I have worked in customer service for a long time myself and it truly takes a lot for me to write a review like this as I understand that we are all human and sometimes people are just having a bad day, but with her it is constant and persistent. read more

Just had the nicest experience here- the manager recognized we were total out-of-towners (from DC- in the city), and went completely out of her way to give great restaurant recommendations in Lexington, fun things to do with our daughter, and even gave her a brownie on the house. Store was clean and fruit was very fresh. We would be regulars if we lived here. read more

Upsides: Friendly service, if you live in Lexington you will likely know some of the staff here on a first-name basis within a few weeks. Also has a customer request section where they sell stuff that they wouldn't normally sell upon request (someone let me know if every grocery store has this and I'm just dense). Downsides: Frequently there isn't any service at all. Even at times when they have two or three cashiers present, customers are often forced to use the self-check out line. Some of us were fired from serving as a "courtesy clerk" at a Texas Randall's Grocery Store when we were 16 because we didn't exactly master the bar code scanner, and we need assistance in checking out so that check out takes two minutes instead of seven. Also, actually knowing the people who check you out can be awkward, as evidenced by the time that my order solely consisted of two 24-packs of toilet paper. Last, it's just kinda depressing in there. It's quiet, kinda dark, and I don't think it's been renovated in a while. Still beats the hell out of the "ghetto" Food Lion, however. read more

I'm not particularly fond of the lack of brand selection here. Produce could be better. The check out lines are the worst! Usually only 2-3 lines open often backed up with people. The parking lot is a nightmare. I now do my grocery shopping at Walmart. read more

A basic but relatively adequate store with limited specialty items. The produce is adequate. My BIGGEST issue, however, is having a grocery store with parking on such a steep slope!!! I wouldn't dare buy more than a bag or 2 of groceries for fear of my loaded cart taking out another shopper or denting their car should it get loose! I think they need to consider moving to a more user-friendly location. read more
