I wasn't at Nelson Staffing to look for a job, but I did come in to take a typing test to certify my typing speed. They closed early on New Year's Eve so I missed my chance to take the test that afternoon, but called and the lady who answered said they would reopen on Friday (1/2/15). I returned mid-day Friday and the receptionist was very welcoming. She brought me to the room behind the reception area which is set up with about ten computers. She sat me down in front of one and explained how the test worked. I typed for five minutes and then met her back at the front desk. She printed out a paper that read my score: 82 wpm with 0 errors. Okay, not bad! Payments need to be cash. I paid my $12 and proudly received my certificate. read more

I got a we're sorry for your experience, I will personally get your typing test results and make sure your words are passed on to the office. I still received NOTHING back. No email, call, nothing. I have an excellent resume. I get a lot of calls from various agencies & am never unemployed for long. I went in to interview with Nelson & two of the recruiters thought I'd be an excellent fit for a lot if their jobs. Played the game of giving them all of my info, references, taking tests, etc. I followed up weekly with both recruiters for several months. I never get contacted & they never seemed to have anything in my field, based on the website. I don't think they are a very successful branch & I'm annoyed I wasted my time with them. read more

Do not use Nelson Staffing in Pleasant Hill!! I went there to try and get a new job. I had no office experience, but I had a lot of customer service experience and a college education. I spent 25 minutes filling out paper work, and another 90 minutes doing computer testing. After all that was said and done, I waited in the waiting room for another 15 minutes to speak to someone. Talk about a cattle call! Finally I was seen by Toni. She sat me down, looked at my paperwork for all of 2 minutes, and told me that I "wasn't really employable" because I had no previous experience. She was extremely rude, and very condescending. When she left her desk to get something, several other women who worked there felt bad for me and told me they were sure I could find a job somewhere, I just had to keep looking. When she came back she all but told me I wasn't worth her time, and that I would have to contact her if I really wanted to find work. Needless to say, I went to another staffing service and found a permanent position within a week. read more

GREAT experience! Nelson is one of two staffing agencies that I have used this year. The staff there have gone out of their way to be friendly and helpful and to find a position for me. The application process was lengthy, but that is because it was thorough. (I do recommend that you go there in person, rather than applying only on line.) The person who worked most closely with my file was Amy. She was careful to line up a perfect temporary job for me. if i could give zero stars, i would.... I've worked for them for going on two years... they had me working at all types of places.. when times got slow and rough, i went to a different staffing agency by the Name of Bolt Staffing in American Canyon. Eventually I moved to Sacramento and to my surprise, I'm 1.1 mile away from A Nelson Staffing in Sacramento... Sacramento's Nelson Staffing will not accept me because i have bad work reviews...... to my knowledge i was never a bad worker... Called ANA COOPER to sort out this mess, she told me that she'd call the Sacramento office and clear it up.. two weeks later, she will not accept my calls or return my emails.. I'm getting the run around.... if you like being lied to and lied about.. this is a perfect staffing agency to go to... i worked my ass off for them @ 8$ a hour at Broadline medical group in richmond, Ca.... i was paid the max $12 an hour for a few months... other than that... i wouldnt recommend this staffing agency to my worst enemy read more

I created this account just to make to this review, which shows how satisfied I was with this staffing agency. I came here looking for an office job because I just graduated and didn't know where to start. I was interviewed by a nice person and I knew I did horrible in this interview but she still didn't immediately give up on me. Then I took some computer Microsoft Office tests and was told I would be called when a job was found for me. I was in need of money quite urgently so I told the person who interviewed to give me any job in the meantime (I also thought it would be a good way to prove to them I was a good worker). So I did a bunch of random jobs for a couple of weeks, mostly factory jobs. I worked my hardest during this time because I didn't want any bad reviews for my work ethic. Then they found me a job that was what I looking for and set up an interview for me. I ended up getting hired as a temp to hire and worked for them until they decided to hire me as a permanent worker. The company I was working for had to do a background check for me, but the company who ran the background check, for the company i was working for, could not verify my employment at any of my previous jobs. So they called Nelson's to make sure I wasn't lying. Nelson's ended up independently confirming my previous jobs themselves which probably was not very easy to do (one was a pizza shop that has a new manager and pretty much all new employees and the other was a small independent business that was/is ran poorly and people don't really answer phone calls). Also, it is worth mentioning that the person who interviewed me and found me the job (and multipie other temp jobs) constantly checked in with me to make sure I was happy at all of my jobs. Nelson's did a whole lot more for me, but I don't really want to write a long essay most people won't read so I will stop here and end with the fact that the people at this location really go out of their way to help you find a job and make sure you are happy at your job. edit. I read the bad reviews this place has. none of the people in the bad reviews work here anymore (at least not that i know of). read more

While they haven't located as many assignments for me as I'd like (aside from a major nine week gig in Emeryville back in 2011), they're always persistent on marketing you to the best of their ability. The staff's quite friendly as well, between Alan, Debbie, Rhonda, Adriana, Anna. The biggest perk here stems on the pay. Usually their jobs offer a commendable salary (my nine week data entry project rounded out to $16.45/hour) with reputable, fun going clients. I strongly recommend them even if it may take a while to locate that assignment (once you do, though, it's usually for a long duration to therefore make that tedious wait worth it) read more

Just wanted to update...so after my long negative review, the district manager called to say absolutely nothing (in my opinion). He went on and on about how the company has had such a great reputation for many years and its the best in the industry. He said he would give my contact information to someone in their Napa area. Of course, no one ever called. I never expected to work with them after I did the review but I don't understand why he would lie. I've since found a good job on my own; I don't think I will ever use a staffing agency again. I did work with a couple of other agencies that were good- The Plus Group and an American Canyon staffing agency (can't recall name at the moment). In their defense, I did discover that 50k is the industry average for that type of position. read more

This staffing firm is the best I've ever worked with. I was introduced to them while unemployed and attending a workshop through our church. Christine Lambert their Regional Recruiting manager came to the workshop and spent the whole morning with us. She taught us how to work with a staffing firm and how to be successful in our search for work. She schedule some of us for interviews with Nelson. She gave employment tips to everyone. She is a happy uplifting lady with alot of energy. I felt excited and ready to look for work after her visist. She is an extension of what I found when I went for my interview. I was very, very disappointed with Nelson Staffing in Pleasant Hill. I have an extensive Admin/Customer Service background. I took all their clerical tests and scored in the 90's in all the tests I took. I had an interview that same day and was encouraged I would be going back to work quickly. Plus I saw on various sites Admin jobs that Nelson posted which were available, hmmmm. Looking back, I realize that is their bait and switch tactic. They asked my salary range, and I know that I could scrape by with $17 per hour. I was then told to call in every Monday and I would be put on a list. I called each Monday for three weeks, by week four I asked to speak to the woman who interviewed me. When I asked her if anything was coming available soon, she stammered that I was "over qualified". What??? Companies don't want to hire an over qualified candidate for the same price as an under qualified candidate? So I did some research on the web, and found out that Nelson staffers need to bring in a quota to make their numbers look good. They don't have many jobs in the East Bay, and certain job postings stay up, even though they have been filled. So be warned, I wish Nelson would have been honest with me from the beginning, letting me know the job market is slow, instead of leading me on. I have lost a great deal of respect for them. read more
