    roses given to ladies!!

I was blown away by Nello's Place!! The entire experience was classy, stellar and attentive service, and the food was delicious and so so filling! Chicken Cacciatore - 10/10 Huge plate of heaping veggies and chicken on a bed of pasta and covered in a delicious tomato sauce. It was literally addicting to eat this and the chicken was soo juicy & flavorful. At the the end, the waiters gave roses to everyone at the table, which was such a lovely and memorable touch! I would definitely go here again with family or to share a plate of pasta with a date!

So awful! The worst food I've had in a long time. The bread had mold, my veal was sour. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

If you are out of town do not eat from here!! Watered down pasta sauce, old bread, nasty as hell! Eat at home.

Ask the Community - Nello's Place

Does Nello's still do their Special Selection dinner? I think that's what it was called?

Yes. It varies. We had crab in garlic butter sauce. I was disappointed. The crab was crunchy! and the garlic was so overpowering .. disappointing.

Is this restaurant owned by the same people who own Nello's in NYC?

It seems like they got their start in NY many years ago according to their website. They have been in Redding since early 80s.

For starters we had steamed clams, calamari and meatballs. For our mains we decided on their Bistro Filet Ravioli, which has Ricotta, Romano, Parmesan, and Asiago jumbo stuffed raviolis, creamy alfredo, chili flakes, topped with their signature pan-seared bistro filet tips. It was amazing. We also had their Ribeye steak at about $53.00. I think it was a 14oz hand-cut ribeye, and it had the best butter on it. It came with mashed Yukon potatoes and marinated asparagus. We will be getting all of this again. We were staying in a hotel so took home some great pasta. The service is great. The food is amazing and the place is just so cute and ever so clean.

However, I was extremely disappointed with my entrée. I ordered the chicken Marsala and it was so bland I was actually shocked. How could nothing on the plate have any flavor? I added salt and pepper twice and that didn't even help. The vegetables had zero seasoning. The mashed potatoes had huge chunks in them and zero seasoning. The chicken and Marsala sauce, tasteless. I saw so many reviews raving about the chicken Marsala. Maybe they got a new cook because the sauce was basically just heavy cream didn't look anything like other pictures people posted. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were very good and had lots of flavor but the marinara was also quite bland and the garlic bread was a joke. It was toasted bread with a smidge of butter, no garlic whatsoever. I will not go back for the price. Definitely not worth it. The fried artichokes and salad were good, but the entree is the most important part and they totally dropped the ball. Very disappointing.

When we first sat down the blonde hostess (I couldn't see her name tag) set the menus down and I picked one up. She gave me the stink eye and pulled the menu out of my hands and slid it to someone else, giving me a child's menu instead, which I'm too old for. We had to ask her for another adult menu. The food was actually great, we split the og chicken. The Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes were amazing. 10/10. The flavor of the chicken was good but it was a little dry but not too bad. I don't know what the deal with this hostess was, I felt like she kept giving me the stink eye during my meal, and I don't know why she wasn't more polite about the menu thing. Ripping a menu out of someone's hands seems pretty rude.

Rather, I was hoping for something that would satisfy my family for a late night meal after a long day of driving down I-5. What we got was a pleasant location, generous wine pours, and a delightful range of dining offerings. Add to the diverse menu, a great outdoor patio with space for dogs, tree coverage to stay cool, and lovely table spacing to keep you from feeling like you're eating with 100 of your closet friends. Oh, and by the way - they've got a doggie menu! So cool.
