This place is a real gem! Waitresses are friendly and attentive but not overbearing. My husband and I stopped by here recently for breakfast and we were both pleased with our meals. Since this place is so popular, there is usually a wait for dining in on the weekends so we usually opt for take out. The line moves fairly quickly when we have waited though. My boyfriend and I went in for the first time today and it was a great experience! The servers were wonderful and the food was delicious! This place was a really nice find. The menu is great with some different options other than the usual "go to's", and the service was above average/ very friendly. I had the blue cheese omelette which I hadn't seen anywhere else before and it was a sure treat. I like how the condiments are on the table with two choices of hot sauce and A1, no need to ask it's right there for ya. Five Stars on my first visit- restaurant offers off street parking on a very busy street, there are two entrances to the restaurant based in if you park in the back or front a win for customers. The restaurant is very clean with lots of votes and tables. The staff is very friendly another win! I got the veggie omelet that was perfectly cooked. The grilled cornbread was fabulous and a nice change from typical toast. My boyfriend got the Bourbon steak tips and I was jealous!! They were delicious! Very diverse menu selection (from the traditional to the creative); however, I think some of the prices may be a bit on the high side for breakfast. For example, what I usually order, 2 eggs, bacon and/or sausage, toast, and home fries for $4.99 = reasonable. Omelette starting at $7.99 = a bit unreasonable. Regardless, food is of good quality and the servings are plentiful. Will never leave here hungry - that's for sure. I've never seen my husband drink flavored coffee. He's a cold brew snob who makes his own coffee out of an actual rustic burlap sock designed by some mustachioed hipster for that exact purpose. So imagine my shock when he ordered the Bananas Foster Iced Coffee and guzzled the whole thing down. Nellie Rose - what is this magic? My Cinnamon Swirl french toast was delicious and used an amazing bread (baked in house! and available to buy a loaf just around the corner at their bakery counter!). The bacon was perfectly crispy. I assume D liked his corned beef hash since he alternated between marveling over the house made hash and slurping his coffee concoction. The waitress was also super sweet and helpful - putting our son's breakfast order in first to avoid hangry toddler meltdowns and quick with bringing over a sippy cup. The kids breakfast was a massive portion at the low low price of $4. We weren't initially wild about the spot when we stopped in for pastries but clearly the sit down service is where it's at here at Nellie Rose. Rounding at at 4 stars because it seems there's a pretty big disparity in food and service when this place gets slammed -- but go at quieter times and this place is fantastic! read more

I stopped in at Nellie Rose at the suggestion of several family members while I was visiting mom from my home in Maryland (late March/early April 2017). First, the good: Being literally a moment's walk from where I was staying, it was easy to get to. The dining room is large, light, and roomy, and the service staff extremely friendly. Service was quick, and my particular dish, corned beef hash and eggs, took the concept of "homemade" to an entirely new level. This hash was chunky! Exactly how I'd want mine to turn out if I decided to make homemade corned beef hash in my own kitchen. The serving was generous, as well, and the prices, while slightly higher than comparable breakfast spots in the area, were just right for the quality and quantity of food you get. Now, the bad (and that one thing really isn't all that bad): The one slightly negative thing about Nellie Rose is that it doesn't necessarily have that "everyone knows you here" feel that many diners have. That's not to say it detracts from the experience. It's delicious either way, but that little extra feeling of home does count for something. read more

Arrived at 9 waited about 20 min To be seated. The 4 of us were seated on the right near the door. Ever time the door opened the cold air came in. I was glad I had a cape on. Not sure if the waitress was new or the kitchen had a back up on the orders. since we were busy talking and admiring the decor we didn't realize how long it took before we were served at 11. Breakfast was delicious, decor was inviting and brought back the good times we all shared. I would have given a 5 star review. However, 2 drawbacks, very cold near the door, secondly, since the room is limited for parties, I was surprised to see many singles sitting at a large table for 4, rather than accommodating them at a smaller table. I love that I live 5 mins from this breakfast joint. There's free parking in the back and a few spots upfront, but don't park in the right two spots because those are for the other business! The dining room is clean with a lot of wooden booths and some tables in the center. There's an entrance in the back aside from the front with a bathroom located towards the rear of the building. Mark and I have gone more than twice now and the wait has never been longer than 10-15 mins. The waitstaff are really nice, helpful and attentive. We've had Brenda as well as the manager of the Whitman location a lot; both of them are great waitresses! I am not sure about the review that was saying that the chef is messy and getting their act back together because the restaurant is doing just fine. I don't eat pork, so I don't get their fried bologna, sausage or bacon, but I get their two eggs with potatoes which is only $4.99 and fills you right up! Their home fries are cooked and seasoned well! If you don't like home fries, you've the option for crispy, hot tater tots which I steal from Mark's plate on occasion ;). I enjoy getting the scrambler with spinach, mushrooms and cheese. It's filling and I like that the cheese is melted on top. Their pancakes are fluffy and bigger than my face so I'd start with one then get another if your stomach can handle it...haha. The grilled cornbread is to die for......you won't regret getting that instead of toast....either butter it right up or slather some jelly of your choosing. Nellie Rose also bakes muffins and other sweet treats; the server will bring pieces of what they have before your entree comes if they have any left. I didn't want to give this place a 5 star but I can't find a reason not to. First off what solidifies it for me is the corned beef hash and the service. Unlike most places that advertise "home made" hash Nellie Rose obviously is. No mushy uniformly small cubed potatoes here. Their hash is predominantly old school stringy corned beef and was cooked perfect. As far as service, on this day Brenda was the only member of the staff you could see but she was amazing. We this restaurant today for the first time and it was really good. I had homefries asked to add onions they were delicious and a fried egg sandwich with cheddar cheese and sausage on pumpernickel the cheese was melted and gooey and the the bread toasted and buttered. It was so good but I could only eat one half very filling. I always try the breakfast sandwich at a new place. If you can't make a decent breakfast sandwich then I dont usually go back. I'll definitely be back !! My husband got a grilled buffalo chicken sandwich on a toasted bun. He said he really liked that the bun was toasted the sandwich was really good. And he thought the fries were too. I tried a french vanilla ice coffee. Great coffee. All this for 20 bucks! Can't beat that. Our waitress Krystal was friendly and invited us back. So sweet.
