Went there for the first time today. It's nice to see a locally owner place with the owner on the grill. He's been doing it since 1976. I had eggs over eat, home fries, and kebalsa, my brother went with and omelette, and my nephew went with the 2 eggs. The home fries are made as you want them. Onions or no onions. The cinnamon toast is to dye for. Great food, people, and price. I also like the ability to support the local kids. read more

Joe's Coffee Shop is a great place to get homemade breakfast and/or lunch. Everything is made to order and the food is excellent! Their omelets are the best omelet I've ever had and you can get many different combinations of ingredients in your omelet. Servings are very large! The restaurant seats about 16 people. 8 barstool and two tables. If you have to wait- the wait is worth it! They also have homemade sausage, meatballs, chili, soups and more! The quintessential hidden gem breakfast spot; this place will satisfy anyone who loves simple home cooked breakfasts in large portions. I heard about them from watching an interview with a local chef who mentioned this was his favorite breakfast place. When we found this place, I knew it had potential. This place is tiny; I don't think it can accommodate more than 12 or so. Most of the seats are along the counter. Two small square tables are available if you don't want to sit at the counter. There was a pretty steady flow of customers when we were there on a weekday morning, so this place must get pretty busy on the weekends. The hours are pretty limited as well. On to the food, which was quite delicious. There are no menus, just a menu board. The portions are large and prices are very reasonable. Between the two person team (with perhaps one other person helping with prep and dishes in the back), we have the waitstaff and the cook. Everything is cooked to order and done very well. There is nothing gourmet on this menu, just the standard breakfast fare (eggs, bacon, ham, hash, pancakes, home fries, etc.). Coffee wasn't bad either. I had hash, eggs, and small order of home fries. My plate was overflowing practically. I think there must have been 5 potatoes worth of home fries between our two breakfast orders, and those were the small portion sizes. Service was efficient and pleasant. There are no frills here, but it isn't the frills that will be bringing us back to this place. read more

Great little place with a small menu and tasty food! Clam chowder was thin and chock full of tender clams. It was served with two slices of toast and was the best I've ever had. Ham and cheese omelette was enormous and expertly prepared. Order home fries separately but only if you're truly hungry! Coffee was excellent. This was a nice stop. read more

I only got a hot coffee to go but it was a good cup of coffee. Inside it was really adorable and if I had had more time I would have stopped longer for breakfast. This seems like a quintessential small town diner. An older couple own and run it and stepping into it is a time warp. Low frills, cash only, and decorated with adorable Knick knacks. read more

Great little coffee shop...one of the last of a dying breed of family-owned and run diners. We have enjoyed breakfast here a couple of times (huge portions of very yummy food) and lunch too which was pretty good. Definitely recommend for breakfast - visit with the owners and local folks while enjoying your meal at the counter from which you can chat with everyone in the place from your seat If you choose as this is indeed, a tiny little establishment! The business was started by his grandfather Joe and continues on through his grandson. Today I experienced the best BLT I have ever eaten. And plan on being there again on Friday. Joe's is the type of restaurant you had always want to find but never could. The initial expectations are of an average AOK pace. But after one visit is becomes a "must go to place" for a great breakfast. Joe was the father of the current owner Bob. Bob and his wife work hard at providing home cooked breakfast with a special touch. The portions are beyond huge. One pancake is the equal to three at other places. The one egg omelet is easily a three egg elsewhere. Unless you have a big appetite one order of anything is enough for two people. All the food is prepared fresh. The seating capacity is at the most 14. There are two tables plus a bar. The best seat in the house is the bar opposite the grill where Bob works endlessly preparing al the food. Just watching Bob bumps up your appetite by a factor of 10. And the conversation which him makes the dining experience all the better. The only problem with Joe's is the operating hours. Think they are from about 5AM to 2PM. But he also has a catering service which must be over the top. When we visit the New England area were always drive out of our way to eat here. read more

Joe's is one of the best hidden gems in all of New England. The prices are affordable, the atmosphere is homey, and the food is as good as it gets. The couple that run the place and do all of the cooking make for nice company when the place is empty, and people who come in to eat are generally friendly. They have all of the classic coffee shop foods like burgers, omelets, pancakes etc... down to an art. Everything is homemade, sometimes right in front of you, so naturally their soups, stews, and especially their meatball sandwiches are great. I'm from New York City, but travel a lot, and anytime I'm within 30 miles of this place I go out of my way to make it to Joe's, because you just can't get good homestyle cooking like this anywhere else! read more

Warning! Unless you live near this place I would stay away. The problem is that after you go here, you are constantly disappointed with every other breakfast experience. Yes the prices are above average, yes the wait can be unbearable at times, but the food is this man's life. I moved out of Hanover 10 years ago and have been on a desperate search for a replacement with no luck. And when ever I come back home it always has to be planned around a visit to get my fix of home fry perfection. If you come from far to this joint you too will be on a hopeless quest on finding a breakfast that can hold a candle to Joes Coffee Shop. But if you must sample the forbidden fruit. Amazing. Very very small place seats about 10-12. If you sit at the counter you can actually see the owner cook your food. Went for my first time and as two of us walked in you can tell they know all their customers because they didn't know who we were but that didn't bother me. Server asked if I wanted onions with my home fries which was a nice surprise because I don't like them, of course I had to say no the onions. As we sat waiting for our food the owners were talking to two gentlemen about food and they were talking very passionately about how they like to make fresh product nothing out of boxes so I knew this was going to be a good breakfast. Once it came it looked amazing eggs were perfect and I even liked the sausage which I never do. Homefries were amazing. My friend got bacon and they didn't skimp out on it at all same with sausage. This place is a cool throw back to old family diners. It is no frills inside but clean and welcoming. I had not been here in a long time (I grew up in Hanover) and my Dad and I came here for breakfast today. It was perfect because while it can be very crowded (small dining area only accommodates about 15 people, tops), we timed it right as there was no one else in here today. Also, parking can be a little tricky but not a problem today. I got coffee with scrambled egg whites, home fries with onions, bacon and pumpernickel toast. My Dad got eggs over easy, home fries and kielbasa. We both got coffee. The owner Bob and his wife (sorry as I didn't catch her name) were lovely; very warm and attentive and conversational in a pleasant, small town kind of way (very neighborly). They cared very much about what we thought of the food and kept checking to see whether we wanted our coffees topped off. Everything was fresh and made to order. The portions were huge (we both got small orders of homes fries and I ended up taking half my plate home, lol). Everything was top quality and cooked perfectly - nicely browned egg whites, crispy bacon (5 pieces!!), well down home fries. A regular walked in and placed a take out order and I heard the owner say that it gets hot in there when they bake the muffins and I was really impressed bc many breakfast places buy their baked goods in bulk from a wholesale store and wrap them in cellophane to make them appear homemade and sell them after marking them up 5 fold. The bill came to about $30 after the tip so not too bad for a treat here and there. My plate was so large that my leftovers will be a second meal so that works for me (who wants to cook in hot weather?!). I will definitely be back soon! read more

This is the place that i always believed that shut the doors on Bickfords Restaurant that was down the street. The food is great, service is great, and the best part is that you can even watch your food being cooked right in front of you so you know what youre going to get. A great place where the locals go to for food and some laughs from Chef Bob. If you want an omlette that you can eat but will need to take home for dinner definately get the 2 egg veggie omlette with cheese. Even the veggies are sweet and tasty and this is from someone thats not into his veggies. Once in a while there has been a celebrity or two walk in there for breakfast or lunch that ive met. This place is old school so bring cash because they dont do credit. Oh and be prepaired in case you want their hubcap sized pancakes and yes they are thick. I was never dissapointed since they use real ingredients in their food. Check this cool little hold in the wall coffee shop. and yes, their coffe is that good too! read more
