I thought service here was great when I came here about 10 days ago with two friends. People asked if we needed help in all the departments we stopped to check out the merchandise. This place is really weird. When I am properly dressed and go there, I get absolutely terrible service. When I come right after physical therapy and look like crap, I get great service. Selection is great, when service is good, it's great, note free alterations (like hemming pants) on regular price purchases. But I confess: nothing really beats Nordstrom. read more

The service here is pretty good on the men's department once you find a sales rep that is willing to help you. The worst thing is that the employees tend to profile and discriminate by age, I am in my 20s and most employees are older so I can be looking for clothes and multiple employees will pass by without asking if I need assistance so you have actively seek one out. The ladies at the fragrance department are great and pretty helpful. I do not recommend buying a suit here if you are younger. The employees are accustomed to dressing older people so if you want to look fashionable and comport to contemporary style trends they will not be much help; instead they will chose a suit for you that will make you look like you are a 65 year old who does not know how to dress. read more

I will be honest, service in the 2nd floor women's designer shoes is slow BUT. Fred. He is AMAZING. Super helpful, extremely nice, and I was able to make an instant connection with him! I was eyeing a pair of Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120's, and for all those Loubi lovers out there, you know that shoe is out of stock everywhere! I fortunately was lucky, and it was a surprise since Fred was nearly positive it was a different style, the décolleté. I didn't have the intention to purchase the shoe that moment, so I asked them if he can hold them throughout the week. After browsing around other stores in the mall compound I could not stop thinking about them! So I had to go back. If I could give Neiman Marcus a -10 stars, I would. My husband and I went to exchange a golf shirt for a smaller size. The shirt was a thoughtful present from one of his patients. Ned Miller, an associate in the men's department, told us there was nothing we can do without a gift receipt, which was not included in the packaging and which we obviously had no control over. He was, however, able to locate the purchase in their system but since the purchase occurred more than 30 days ago, they refuse to process an exchange. We asked to speak with his manager, who robotically repeated the "corporate" policy and noted that she was unable (or unwilling) to deviate. She proceeded to tell us that the patient should have gifted a gift basket so there wouldn't be an issue with sizing. It is a rude comment that minimizes the thoughtfulness of the patient due to Neiman Marcus' complete lack of customer service. In hindsight, we should have dressed the part before we entered the esteemed walls of the department store. We didn't think to since we were just running errands to distract us from the loss of our daughter 6 days ago. We left the store with the expensive present that my husband can't use and me feeling like nothing will ever go right again. read more

The service here is terrible. Sales associates in customer service are the least bit helpful. I came in to two ladies chatting... neither said hi to me until I said hi to them. During my "transaction", I was rushed by the associate. No one else was in line. She definitely did not help me with kindness. She was... snobbish. And honestly, I don't understand why. You work at a customer service desk... your job is to serve customers. Where does the high nose come from? Makes no sense. Sadly, there is absolutely no 5 star service in this store... AND NEIMAN MARCUS HAS TO HAVE GREAT SERVICE. It's just a must. Companies need to wake up and realize who they put as representatives of their store. They literally make or break the experience. It's not the prices... it's not the products... it's the people. When service is down the drain, then stores should close and only have online shops. I had a really awful experience here. The sale associate did not want to show me a Chanel bracelet, she said,"This one is expensive". I am a returning customer of this store. It's ashamed that they don't value their customer. Her job is to show the merchandise not judge. They are getting a commission from the sale. You would think that she will do whatever it takes to make a sale. I did talked to Brigg Klien the merchandising manager and he told me it's the policy to show one item at a time. Okay, I'm okay with that policy, but don't say this piece is expensive. I feel I was being profiled. It's a shame that I even had to give this store 1 star. If -5 was an option, that's what I would give. I had bought a Canada Goose coat online that did not fit. My sister-in-law, my daughter and I went to the Northbrook location to exchange the coat. They did not have the same coat in a smaller size. I approached a sales associate and asked if it can be ordered. She told me that it could, but we would have to do it through online because of the tax difference. I said fine. Instead of the associate refunding my card, she put it in a gift card. She preceded to tell me to keep the initial receipt because of the new coat didn't fit, they could refund my original payment. It was a completely different story. The customer service people told me that it can only be refunded to a gift card. I told them that this is not what the associate told me initially. I told them that I had 2 other people with me when the second order was placed and they heard the same thing. The customer service lady got on the phone and called the online customer service. They told her that it can only be refunded to the gift card. And I said I wanted to speak to a manager. I proceeded to speak with the online associate on the phone. Then she put me on hold for 30 min. She came back after 30 min and told me that a refund could be processed and returned to my initial form of payment. And told me to hang in a few more mins. She put me back on hold for another 25 min only to come back and tell me that nothing could be done. As this was happening, they associate that did the initial return and put MY money onto a gift card was walking by. I flagged her over and asked her to tell the customer service people what she had told us when the initial return was made. And she completely lied through her teeth. And I confronted her in front of the customer service team. She tried to paint me as the liar. She last words to me before she stormed away we're "that is not even remotely close to what I said." I was in shock!!!! The nerve of this woman to lie to my face! I have never in my years of shopping ever been so disrespected so badly in a store. That associate should've been terminated immediately. At this point I was so infuriated that I got up, took my item, and my receipts and left. I sat in my car and thought about what just happened. What nerve, I just spent $950 on a coat from this company(not a small amount of money)and when someone doesn't want to keep it and the associate is at risk to lose her commission she resorts to lying and humiliating the customer. So people, heed my warning! If you see a woman on the second floor with 20 pounds of mascara on and jet black hair STAY AWAY FROM HER!!!! You are better off shopping at Nordstrom. Where the customer service is exceptional! It's been about an hour since all of this happened and I'm still in shock. I will be calling the store manager tomorrow to complain! I am partial to this Neiman store over the Michigan Avenue location though it is closer. This is better organized and more spacious. Perfect match-up for my price range. Extensive selection of mid-designers with the famous Neiman deep discounts as the seasons flip over. Recently had the pleasure of Kim Soon assisting me with a purchase. She took extra time to show me how to wear/fashion a blouse that had a unique design. Without her eye I would have passed it by on the hanger. She then quickly found my size at another store and made arrangements for it to be shipped. 5 stars for her and the staff in customer service on a previous visit. During that visit, while trying to return a web order, a floor manager was, well, arrogant. Not directly at me. Not worth going into it. Fortunately the 2 women in customer service understood the issue. read more

So friendly, informative, and knowledgable about their brands and products I was amazed. A lovely woman helped me in David Yurman, as well as the Chanel handbag boutique. My issue was not w/ Neiman Marcus itself. My issue is w/ the Laura Mercier Counter. I needed to get my makeup done and a friend recommended a particular makeup artist there. I called a month before I needed my appt to schedule and request this particular artist. When I called, I was told they would schedule my appt, but couldnt gurantee the person I requested would be in. I was told to call back a week before my appt to verify whether she would be in. Totally Fine... I called back a week before my appt and spoke w/ Barbara. She said the person I requested wouldnt be in and they scheduled me with someone else. I told her that was fine. The day before my appt Barbara called me back saying there was an issue w/ my appt and they couldnt schedule me w/ my requested make-up artist. (Clearly they dont take notes of previous calls) I called back right away and spoke w/ Robin and said I was already informed of this and that wasnt a problem. Robin said I was all set for my appt the next day. The morning of my appt I got a call again from Barbara saying they never heard back from me and that I didnt have an appt. Obviously I was extremely angry. She asked if I could come in eary for my appt. I said no, I have an appt scheduled for noon! She told me to come in and they would "squeeze me in". When I got there it was total chaos. They clearly overbooked apts and were not at all apologetic. I would never go back there. Oh and to top it off, the girl I requested was there the whole time!! read more

I was asked to provide a bag card (tag) that was never sent to me; it was not the request that bothered me, but the tone that accompanied it. I will never step foot in the store again. These sales people have a lot to learn. They follow you around the store and breathe down your neck! Especially when shopping for luxury items, I appreciate elevated customer service, but this is not that- this is just used car salesman tactics at their worst! The biggest culprits are at the fragrance counter- as soon as you even look at a bottle or pick one up to test out a fragrance they surround you with the specialist of this brand and the sales person of the counter etc. I don't need 3 people to help me make a fragrance purchase decision! Even after telling them multiple times that I just want to test a few different ones and I will let you know if I need help, they are still sitting there watching you and shoving "suggestions" down your throat. Look I get it, I am looking at $250 bottles of perfume and you want to try and be helpful (not because you want to be helpful but because you work on commision)... but when I tell you to back off, just back off, don't stand around like I am going to toss the bottle in my Gucci bag and walk off OK? I mostly go to NM to buy perfumes and granted I was there today to exchange one as the dry down gave me headaches. The sales person who helped me to buy it (I don't know if I should say help as she was getting very impatient and almost angry with me for asking questions) recognized me and did greet me but my husband who does not like smelling perfumes was walking around and heard her say.. "O she is back" and bitching about me. It's not like NM's pays us customers to buy from them. Karen is honestly one of the greatest sales people I've ever received assistance from in a department store. She was friendly and introduced herself right off the bat as a person dedicated to pairing me with a great cologne. Her knowledge on the products available in store was very impressive; and she even taught me a few things about colognes that I never knew about even though I consider myself to be an extensive connoisseur myself. She is a fragrance QUEEN! She ended up selling me a bottle of Creed Aventus, and even upsold me on the larger bottle size. She gave me a few samples to try as well and invited me back in anytime to try more products or to talk about fragrances. Karen went above and beyond to take care of me from start to finish, and even pivoted to offer to show me other stuff in the store outside of my original reason for coming in. As someone who works in investment sales I can appreciate a great sales person when I see one and Karen is all that and a bag of chips. She has great sales instincts to get me excited about the product selection and to steer me towards adding more to my cart in a way that is natural, non-aggressive, and leisurely. It's employees like Karen that are keeping brick and mortar locations alive in spite of the fierce competition of online ordering. I will definitely be back to this location; and when I am, I will ask specifically for Karen. She is now my go-to fragrance specialist! :) read more

I went to the Northbrook Court location looking for two dresses for my son's wedding and reception. I was approached by a saleswoman who asked me what I was looking for. I responded that my son was getting married and I wanted a mother-of-the-groom dress, one for the wedding and one for the evening reception. She asked me what month the wedding was, and I responded that it was at the end of July. She said "we have Fall clothes now, don't you have something at home you can wear?" What?? Are you kidding me? I've been in retail for 45 years. This is customer service at an upscale store? I was mortified! I walked away, found a few things I wanted to try on, approached another saleswoman who said to me "Do you realize you have a casual dress and evening gowns in your hand?" I could not believe I was being questioned about my choices. She put me in a dressing room. I ended up purchasing the casual dress and the kicker is, she got commission for that. I went in recently to look for a nice gift for a housewarming - was thinking either a beautiful picture frame or some beautiful serving piece. I knew that Neimans carried some of the brands I had been looking at online so I came to the store to check it out in person. Now, I grew up in the area and came to this Neimans regularly in the past, and I didn't have any negative feelings toward this store.... UNTIL MY LAST VISIT. I walked in and was treated fine in the clothing departments, but as soon as I got to the gifts/home accessories department they watched me like a hawk, talked to me condescendingly and were entirely RUDE. And because Jo Malone is mentioned negatively here several times I will say that there is a woman who has been there for years whose name is Barbara, some call her Bobo, and she is the loveliest most helpful, down to earth woman I've ever met at a cosmetics or fragrance counter.
