I've been in here a handful of times and have spent a bit of money in here given the prices. Not one time has anyone ever approached to help me and it's quite literally the number one reason I don't want to shop in here. I've been through every department with the sales associates looking right at me, not doing anything... and they don't say a word. Guess everyone's getting paid to stand around and talk to their colleagues in a dying mall. Giving it 2 stars as its 1 of 2 stores to shop in for my age range at this mall. Neiman Marcus is a high-end store, so I understand the prices being crazy high. That being said, not all the items are like that and I have seen decently priced items. Knowing that, it's fun to look around and maybe find something unique and perfect enough to buy. Only one employee talked to us while we wandered the store and they were really pushy. There was another employee nearby that was literally just standing there and glaring at us. Not good customer service at all. We left the area very quickly. Employees were missing from most of the store, and the employees we did see were not friendly. The store was dead, so you would think they would want to be nicer to the people that do bother to look around. Northbrook Court has become a shell of itself, which is truly depressing to behold, especially if you grew up going there. Neiman Marcus feeling a bit like a Potemkin village's department store is largely due to its larger context - not its own fault. Even so, it's never been that busy in the past few years, and it feels a bit spooky! The staffing is also reduced, which makes sense, but this meant that when I asked for someone to do my makeup on a Sunday, knowing I'd buy at least one item, they only had Dior, and it was a minimum of three items. I went with it and got less pricey items, and the makeup artist from Dior was super nice, but it was a bit inconvenient. The clothing selection is good, from what I can tell, but I'm not usually swiping my card here, so to speak. The clearance sections are decent! read more

This NM is literally the only reason why I would go to Northbrook Court; the mall itself has slowly been shuttering its stores, which is really sad to see... I'm hoping there will be some type of a revamp or a remodernization. We came here to do some shopping, and I'm so glad that we did - there was a particular top that I was looking for, and this location was well-stocked! The SA that we worked with was friendly and responsive; there was another SA in the Moncler section, and she was very helpful as well, as we were checking out a particular coat. I have the means & over the years have spent my money in this store. Now I no longer feel comfortable in this store any longer. First, the security in the parking lot and the store is so high, you simply do not feel safe. Walking into empty of customers but filled with security feels creepy. I am not sure why Neiman Marcus remains in this "Woke" unsafe. Entitled obnoxious empty mall! I went in to purchase a few bras today. First I was told by SA (as she sat in fitting room area on a bench staring at her phone)... the person who works here is not here today. I told her I would still look around. From her bench SA told me I should really come back when other person is here, cause she can't help me. I did try on 3 bras, but since I needed other sizes and she seemed useless I rehung the bras and returned them to stock. While I was in the fitting room SA managed to get off the bench and was no where to be found. A nice Sunday afternoon, the store was empty of customers. I just did not feel comfortable in the store to even look around other departments. I do not think I will ever return to this store. I spend time in Florida and the stores there are busy, pleasant to shop in and I feel much safer in busy friendly stores. If I were in Charge of NM, I would consider cutting my losses and get out of this mall. Northbrook has really become a place to avoid. read more

We are living in 2023 and I'm surprised by the blatant racism that still exists among these sales associates! My sister and I both clearly African American came to visit and shop at your location on 1/27/2023 and it was my birthday! I was ready to spend some cash but as soon as we walked in to the store and made our rounds, especially in the shoe department not once were we greeted or asked if we needed any assistance! The store was not busy and all of the sales associates were standing around doing absolutely nothing and I even walked in front of one with a shoe in hand and she ignored me. This seemed to be the theme in the entire store. Why do you wake up everyday to go work there if you are not willing to assist the customer! It makes no sense! But yet someone of the opposite race came in and they were so eager to assist her! She didn't even buy anything! But here I am ready spend and nothing! But guess what? Your neighbor Louis Vuitton was ready and willing to take my cash! They were excited for me to buy up the store and I had no problem doing so. I am honestly and continuously blown away by how sour and unfriendly overall the staff here is. During COVID I've been buying online and returning in store. The people who work at the return counter are just downright not nice. I have never had an associate smile or be friendly. It's like they hate their job and it shows. It's so odd. For the bad experience and a few bad apples employees for ruining it was one star before, but I did come back. When you carry a high price tag, no customer should be disrespected. I was not greeted but told "Do not touch" when reaching for foundations to try to see what color suits my skin. The woman putting make up on others was using Bobby Brown shadow palette. I was dismissed. I thought maybe due to Covid they don't let you try some shades. But no. There were other customers, two mothers with young ladies, and another couple that came by who were treated differently. They were touching the shadows and other products and were not even told to stop. There was another employee who did help bringing samples, but I got an impression I have to decide on the spot or I am taking their time. Every customer should feel like they belong there to shop. Treat everyone with respect if they are buying or not. Don't look them down. You are working at the counter. Like someone mentioned below they make people feel not worthy of their time. Their behavior screams discrimination and profiling. There are some nice employees. But you never know what your experience will be depending who's helping you or should I say not helping you. Two days later-- I had totally a different experience. The person who was dismissive helped me out the most today. She has a good eye for things. I will be back. Today, I didn't feel so much out of place. I purchased today and got free samples to try. However, another coworker came by to look inside my bag when I was checking out. I kind of miss the days when this was my go to store. Frankly, my needs have changed, and not just because of the pesky little pandemic. If you find that you still need stylish clothes and marvelous make-up this is the place to find it all and more. They still have the grandest selection of high end everything from lingerie to outerwear, from baubles to handbags, from housewares to nosh, for babies, kids, men, and women. Who wouldn't want a gift in a NM bag? Gone, for me, are the days of browsing the luxurious offerings. Nowadays, I visit when I need something specific and always a perusal through giftware to see what serving pieces I can find on sale. The WORST customer service. They are rude, didn't let me finish my sentences, and made no sense when explaining why they couldn't accept the return of my online purchase (something about a warehouse? Lol.) I resorted to calling the Neiman Marcus customer service phone number. BUT IT GETS WORSE - There were 7 salespeople (yes I counted - I was livid) in the women's shoe department, all of which refused to help me find out if they had a nude color of the Manolo shoe I was looking at. One person came, and without checking in the back, that he said they didn't. There was a very obvious bias towards me. Was it because I was holding a box ready to make a return downstairs? IDK. Was it because I didn't look "wealthy" enough to afford $700 heels? IDK. But they lost a potential shoe sale today AND forever -- SHOP AT MICHIGAN AVENUE INSTEAD. I can't remember, but he was such the sweetest and most patient person I've worked with out of all my years coming to the Northbrook location. Majority of staff are very nice and helpful! However I mostly stop by at the Chanel. As someone who believes in investing in quality I go often to do my research on my first Chanel bag. There are two main employees I think work there. One is Cecil who is the most warmest, genuine, and helpful person. He doesn't mind that I stop in, ask different questions, try the bags on without purchase. I have purchased two Chanel pieces because of his patience and understanding I like to think things through. When I first met him he introduced himself and was so down to earth. The other employee never has introduced herself and I can tell I bother her with the times I come in and Cecil isn't there. I currently have stopped by to check if they got new card holders in and before I could even step foot into the actual Chanel store she replied "No and we probably won't get them for a while so you don't need to check so often." It deterred me from going in there again. I visit that store because I work in the same mall and Chanel in Chicago is just crazy. Cecil's excellent customer service and honestly just being a kind human being made me feel better, less pressured to buy,or feel judged for not purchasing anything. But I will not be stopping there anymore as someone's terrible people skills truly made me feel not worthy. I've been coming here since 2004 with baby strollers . I counted the times I've been here and it has been well over 156 times. Most of the reviews are true about this store. I can't distinguish the difference between the employees and the manikins . I gotten as much acknowledgment from the manikins as from these employees. I'm glad I don't shop there . But I don't give them three stars for the prices, the problem is that the service people should be better than they are for these prices. I understand that Neiman Marcus is a high end store. That being said, my complaint is not the price of items, but rather the treatment I received as we shopped here. In most departments, the employees did not even acknowledge our presence. It isn't stroller friendly and the staff seemed irritated we were shopping with children in tow. The only exception to this was the children's section. We were going to purchase a designer handbag or sunglasses as a gift, but chose to take our business elsewhere. I would not patronize an establishment where I wasn't treated well. I've heard that they have good service for online orders, I may try that next time. Variety of choice is lacking when compared to the Chicago store. Not well stocked for sizes and some departments look empty. The mens shoe department is extremely limited while the women's is better with newer designer models more readily available. In fact the women's shoe department is what I gave the one star for. Customer service and sales personnel is non existent. It's easier to find an item yourself than rely on help of the sales for clothing (jewelry, cosmetics, and women shoes is an exception). Was once helped by a department manager returning a few clothing articles and spent over an hour! Asked for a store manager - never came. I Went in to buy a gift for a friend and had no idea of what i was looking for or wanted and just thought id browse around until something caught my eye . I ended up wandering in the purse dept and was approached by Javier asking if i needed any help (I think i must have looked totally lost).He asked several questions about my friend (height, hair , job and so on )and showed me several styles and colors to choose from and even took me over to the Chanel dept. I used to work "behind the scenes" here. I would say the store is lovely. And carries beautiful lines and hosts a fair amount of fun events (compared to the downtown location - they get all the good stuff). Having a good working relationship with everyone from the saleswomen (and men) to the store manager and everyone in between - they all seem to know what has to be done to do their job. But as with any higher end retailer.... money talks. And if you don't have it they might just ignore you until you flash that Neiman's card. They continue to carry great merchandise and brands I love to death and can't get enough of: Gucci, Tom Ford, Brunello Cucinelli, Ferragamo, Brioni, Balenciaga, Balmain, and the rock star list goes on! The folks here are very approachable, knowledgeable, and efficient--for example, Rob Raye and Ned Miller, are 2 awesome sales folks whom I've bought a ton of things from over the decades!! I, too, have had bad experiences at this store. I usually only buy cosmetics there (Bobbi Brown and Keihl's) because it's close to home and I can't easily find these products elsewhere. However, I've been in there several times and stood at the Bobbi Brown counter for a long time (once over 10 minutes) and no one ever asked if I needed help. It's not like the place was packed and I had to wait for my turn, they just never asked if they could help me. I almost always have to ask for assistance - not the best customer service I would say! I once scheduled a make-up application for my sister-in-law and myself, on the condition that we buy 3 products after the application session. I thought that was a bit odd, but we did it anyway. We both ended up liking the products and I bought 4 or 5 items and my sister-in-law bought 3 or 4. One of the make-up artists acted like we weren't spending nearly enough money for the work he just did on us, and we turned out to be a total let down for him money-wise. He made no secret of how displeased he was that we were "only" spending about $400 on BB products. I also went there to look at purses one time. I was looking for a specific Coach handbag, and the sales lady (once I was able to get her attention!) told me they didn't sell Coach. Surprise to me, but ok... She told me to try looking at a retailer such as Marshall Fields, "since they carry less expensive product lines". Nevermind the cute Kate Spade that I saw that day and was going to buy. I was helped as I was walking up to the counter by a salesperson who might have been from another line but was happy to try to find what I was looking for. Another salesperson- this one definitely from Jo Malone- came over and wrapped the gift and took the payment. She definitely seemed to have more of the attitude the others complained of. This is not a "come as you are" type of retail location. Although I have dared to run in after the gym in my grungy clothes (I don't do designer w/ work out wear) Anyway, all the ladies put on an act here. But I do love the merchandise. I order a pair of shoes online for my birthday party, which happens to be today. The shoes were delivered yesterday May 31, 2018 .The shoes run EXTREMELY SMALL. I needed a different size, so I drove 2 hours on my birthday to exchange the shoes. The African American male found the correct size and said he'd have to do a complete return and give me a credit for the $700. I asked why and he said they work off commission and because it was an online order it had to be done that way. After returning the original shoes for only $695 (my card was charged $710.38)he processed the new transaction and told me there was a $76 difference. I asked for a manager and he said no I would have to pay the difference. Nothing could be done. So I was very upset to say the least so I left both pairs behind. Leaving me shoeless for my birthday party!! I returned a short time later to dispute the amount of my return. I was sent to guest service where I asked to speak with a manager. Linda Piepho came over to speak with me. I explained the situation to her and she too said she couldn't do anything about the extra taxes. She did however, give me the $10.38 difference for my return. I still don't have shoes for my birthday party. Linda offered me a $50 off $200 to use on something else. But that wasn't any help to my situation. I still have to pay the additional $76 and spend at least $150 more to use the offer. Not to include the gas and time I wasted to come there. My credit card was charged 3-4 times for the same order. The other charges are still pending. And it's being held by the bank until it falls off. Another huge inconvenience!!!! I would have NEVER expected this kind of service from such a prestigious company. I'm horribly disappointed, upset and heartbroken with the way I was handled by everyone involved. Ok so I get the commission environment of sales. It is rough and I think most of us can empathize if you ever worked in retail growing up. What I DON'T appreciate is bad service because sales people are bickering over who can "claim" you as a "client". Or the opposite they assume within seconds you are not worthy to be a client and do not even attempt to make a sale to you. Too many times I have been burned at this particular Neimans. Service is typically good on the 2nd level with clothes (had great experiences with Burberry, denim, Theory), but I would say cosmetics and handbags have room to improve. If you need to shop here and can make the trip I would defintely recommend Oakbrook and the Michigan Ave locations - it almost feels like a world of difference with service (again speaking about handbags and cosmetics sections only) read more

This review is mostly on NM's Bobbi Brown counter: My cousin and I came here to get our makeup done for her birthday party at the Bobbi Brown counter. I made an appointment only 2 days in advance, and they had openings. So that's one good thing, hassle free appointments. We got to the counter promptly at 3, and the girl doing my makeup was done by 3:05. I was shocked. As a makeup enthusiast, she didn't even do my eyebrows (and that's the most important thing). I even let her know what I was looking for and what Bobbi Brown products I loved using, and she used none of the items I mentioned. She was in such a rush and made me wonder why she even agreed to taking me if she did not have time. Luckily, the lady doing my cousin's makeup was a lot nicer and put in a lot more time and effort. She even gave us free deluxe samples of Bobbi Brown's BB cream and smokey eye mascara (which I am now in love with). Overall, getting my makeup done was a terrible experience. I've had much better Bobbi Brown experiences at Macy's. But a special shoutout to the extremely helpful lady at the Jo Malone counter, she definitely has the right attitude and was knowledgeable of Jo Malone products. read more
