I recently reviewed Neil Armstrong Elementary on another Facebook page and then I posted my review on their facebook page. My post was erased I again posted my review and again they removed my review so now i will put it everywhere else. The following is my review.
Great school unless your kid has special needs then they are ignorant fools and will go to any length to remove your child from attending. The level of ignorance on part of my son's teacher Ms. Vereeke and some parents of students in her fourth grade class is astounding.
One star until i see more special needs kids here and they are thriving.
Before spring break i was thinking i will move and take my son to another district but then we decided no. We will not run away but will keep an eye on this school and this school district. We are voters and will vote and will make noise in the special needs community and let everyone know of the level of ignorance that we have seen that our special needs son had to endure.
We are not running away we will raise our boys right here and and hopefully they will raise their children here and even if they don't my husband and I will be here voting and spreading awareness until we die.
Ms. Annie Vereeke and Ms. Lorna Montheith oh no this is not the way you handle it.
We moved our son and the school he goes to now has a banner with the words "Inclusion" written on it which is a word i wish you knew the meaning of.
The school he goes to now is in the same district and he has the same aide that he had in Ms. Vereeke's class and the same behaviorist but what a difference in their (the team at Golden View Elementary) mindset on teaching and acceptance.
To the parents who said their children are not getting appropriate education because my disabled child was there i have one thing to say. YOur children are still not getting a fair and appropriate education as they just learned that if something or someone is different you get them kicked out instead of dealing with it with dignity and love and compassion.
These moms and dads who are complaining about my son's special needs are so ignorant that they think that they themselves or their children will never ever have a child with disabilities of their own. Look at the statistics and pay attention to Autism the raising numbers of kids being diagnosed today. My mom once told me if you have kids shut up about other's kids unless you are in their shoes.
Going in front of the Board these two parents said my son threatened their child with a knife. When asked by a Board member what kinda knife he had in his hand they said they were just reporting what another parent told them she saw and that he didn't have a knife in his hands. And also he had no other weapon in his hands. NO evidence was produced to substantiate the complaints against Aidan. THe mom who they said saw what happened was not present at the Board meeting.
Here's a question that popped in our minds (my husband and I and the judge who presided over our mediation on April 9th) that if someone saw something like this happening would you wait a few weeks to go report in front of the Board or would you immediately go and tell a teacher, principal, call the cops and so on what we normal people would think of doing?
I want to let Ms. Annie Vereeke and Ms. Lorna Montheith know that my son is thriving at his new school and they can get a report from his behaviorist and his aide if they wish to do so. Not one behavior issue has been reported and he comes home so happy.
Like they say it takes a special teacher to teach special needs kids. We had Ms. Boyd in first grade and then Ms. Gaddis and then Ms. Maderos all superb teachers in our view. Ms. Boyd was sick and her child had problems but she gave our son her very best. Ms. Gaddis was recovering from cancer she never once complained or had him feel like he didn't belong. Ms, Maderos was a first time third grade teacher and the love and compassion these three showed my son we will always be thankful for.
Moving Aidan to another school was the best decision we have made. He is in a regular ed forth grade class with an aide.
