If you are a vegetarian or vegan, you really need to check this place out. The menu (which has 0 meat dishes) is massive. It covers a giant wall above the huge open kitchen. I have never seen an Indian restaurant serve such a crowd of customers. The parking lot, front, back and side, was full. The line was long but kept moving. 99+% of the customers were south Asian families traveling in groups of 4-12. I have to give the staff credit. They keep people moving, despite the line being jam packed with family reunions and child ADHD episodes and Indian grandparents with mobility issues. The line is organized chaos, but it works. In the dining area, you have people pushing together 4 or 5 tables and wandering around to kiss babies at other the side of the restaurant or get water pitcher refills, and yet somehow the table bussers work like a beehive. I came in early in the day during the week for lunch. As other reviewers have noted, the menu is huge and fairly overwhelming for those not familiar with Indian cuisine. Thankfully the manager came over and provided some direction. With my preferences noted he made some recommendations. I tried the samosa chaat, three veggie samosas topped with yogurt, chutney, onions...it reminded me of the idea of smothered fries. I think that the samosa itself was good, but not great. I did like the topics/sauce, but it might be a bit much for some. It also needs to be eaten very fresh. I did not finish one of mine and it turned into goop. The portion was large and was a meal itself or would need to be shared. I also ended up trying one of the 'Indian-Chinese' as I was curious as to what this would be like. I tried the Haake noodles, thin buckwheat noodles tossed with veggies. I found it to be fresh and lighter than I was expecting. The dish was very good and met my bar for vegetarian: I did not miss or even think about meat. I expected NeeHee's to be similar to MOD/ Blaze pizza or Chipotle but it was a bit more involved than these casual fast food type places. I would not expect fast food, there was a bit of a wait. NeeHee's has soooo many options, I can't wait to come back! This time I had the mango lassie and mini thali street food. The mini thali has three sauces, roti, and rice. It's very tasty and some of the sauces are spicy. The meal is so large I had leftovers. The restaurant has a lot of South Indian dishes, which reminds me of home. I'm excited to try them all. My friend had the dosa and it was huge. You will definitely be very full after coming here. The space is really large so you won't have any issues finding a seat. There's a lot of Indian people who come here which conveys the authenticity of the food. There's a good size parking lot. Also, they make homemade ice cream with very unique flavors. My first time at this location, as I have tried their other location in Canton, MI (a few years ago). I was not surprised to see some of the low star reviews, since the folks who visited this spot must have done so in the very very early days. At the time, they were still training the staff, things were still getting set up, limited supply, etc. Thankfully all of those little niggles have been sorted out and I guess also the competition nearby (Paradise Biryani, Sai, Mumbai Katta, etc) will spur them on to solid improvements. Came here for my birthday (no they dont have any special discounts for that), and tried several different items. I do concur with others, that it is good idea to come with friends who understand the menu, so you can choose something which pleases you. Having said that, most of the items are kind of appetizers or elevated snacks in the modern day Indian cuisine. A few items are definitely in their own right, a very filling and satisfying meal. (Examples are the Dosa, or Choley Bhatureh). On the the items I tried - went for a variety of mini-meal/snacks: Raj Kachori (literally "King"-sized Kachori), which is something my Dad loves (incidentally he and I both share a birthday so while I was having this - he was doing the same back in the old country). This is made from refined flour, filled with lentils, chickpeas and other spicy condiments. The size is what makes this one different. Topped with several things like yogurt, chutneys, chopped cilantro, etc. Overall is was OK, I prefer mine to have a very firey zing to it, so I asked the manager for some hot stuff. I did get some green chutney and red chutney (tasted like Sriracha) as a side accompaniment. Did the trick. The next item on our list was the Aloo Tikki (literally Potato Patty). Of course no Indian dish or entree or item is served plain. This had all the possible condiments integrated with it! (See my pictures). Chopped onions, cilnatro, tamarind chutney, mint chutney, etc.,etc. Overall also OK. Item #3 was the Dahee Bhalley (literally Yoghurt soaked Puffed Balls), a concoction I am certain very original & ancient to India, in which giant sized balls or doughnuts are made from a variety of legumes, flour, chickpeas (I prefer pigeon peas), into fritters, then soaked for a couple of hours and then drowned in beaten yoghurt. The condiments drizzled on this are key and here they were very light on this. I did enjoy it and it was also filling. [Note: the yoghurt used at NeeHee's is usually sweet, so I had to compensate for it by adding a bit of salt or hot sauce, but YMMV] My daughter who likes only to peck at the first 3, opted to complete her nibbling by getting the Singapore noodles, which she liked very much. Recall this place has a huge menu and yes, get advice, so you can order what you can enjoy. Or maybe try different things each time - so you can discover what delights your palate the most. The noodles were decent and of course were dosed with Indian spices, but it was flavorful. Finally we had to top off the evening with another super popular South Indian item - namely the Dosa. Think of it as a rice batter based crepe, except it is super thin and of course "Emperor" sized, i.e. even bigger than a King sized! It comes with Sambhar (a medley of vegetables and lentils based soup sort) , tomato chutney and coconut chutney. Also a side made out of potato (almost pureed) but prepared with turmeric and mustard seeds, is the common filling. The Sambhar was OK, note that while the Dosa is huge, the sides are "tiny" - I guess that what gives it the 'contrast'. What I also liked was the place is very spacious, brightly lit, nice dazzling yellow walls, shiny maple like wood tables, engraved chairs (so I guess no one can spirit them away?), lots of TVs (including a multi-tiled projector showing the sport of cricket all the time), plenty of families and the kids in tow, relaxed socializing, good atmosphere. Neehees has one of the best Indian vegetarian foods I have ever have. They have SO many options of Indian street food and it tastes just like it was made in India. You order at the front when you walk in and then they give you a buzzer which goes off as each of your dishes is ready for you. Whatever issues were mentioned in previous reviews have disappeared. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Food came relatively quickly, and was hot and fresh. For the price, I felt everything was worth it. The menu is overwhelming and extensive - they offer 60+ menu options!!! Grab a menu booklet when you walk in. The pamphlet does a great job breaking down the description of each item, as well as labeling vegan, spicy, etc. This fast/casual restaurant is perfect for large groups. Lots of open space, large tables, and shareable menu offerings. We ordered a TON of food to sample with our party of 6. The portions of foods are generous though, so don't order too much. Some of our favorites includes vegetable pakoras, dosa, aloo tikki, gobi manchurian. The mango lassi and chai were also very good. We were too full to enjoy the ice cream, but definitely next time. Ok, after mourning the loss of a spot in garden city, I was so happy to see this place, and, my vegetarian daughter was with me so we stopped in, after registering for the two Hour wait at the sec of state. Both are at long Lake and Rochester. I live in royal oak, but will definitely be back. Service was friendly and fast, the food very good. We had mango lasses, tasty, and I had the chole bhature, always a favorite, done very well. The kids had noodle bowls. The restaurant is clean and well presented. TV had a cricket game which was fun, and several were showing Disney for the kids. Modern look, and tons of room. The menu is extensive but a little small for these eyes. There's a new Chaat in town. And for a non-Indian this is a fun and confusing experience. The paper menu has over 60 options and is not written in English. Fear not there are at least 6 big screen 1080p back lit LED menus with alternating pictures and English descriptions. Also our confusion was clearly evident as an employee/manager with a crisp blue shirt came over to help explain the menu. Upon arrival you will receive a pager with a blinking number that represents your position in line to order irregardless if your are ordering takeout or eating in. Here's a breakdown of what we ordered. 1. Samosas $3.75: we elected to order the plain samosas not the samosas chaat which are covered in various sauces and yogurt because I like the flaky crust. Verdict - Average samosas and appropriately priced 2. Vada Pav $4.99: Basically a masala potato party between and a toasted hamburger bun. Simple and delicious 3. Mixed Veggie Pakora $6.49: was expecting various deep fried vegetables but ended up with a misc vegetable hush puppy concoction. 4. Gobi Manchurian $9.99: By far the BEST dish we ordered. Spicy saucy covered stir fried cauliflower that is oh so good. 5. Szechuan noodles $9.99: Recommended by the aforementioned blue shirt. Good spice and flavor but mushy not so al dente texture and probably overpriced for a clearly pre-prepared noodle dish Bottom line: Definitely worth a try if you like Indian street food. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed NeeHee's yet! That's appalling on my part! I like NeeHee's a lot, and if they were a *little* bit less expensive, they'd be given all five stars. I have absolutely no qualm with the quality of their food: it's pretty stinking amazing, and I've worked my way around the menu a good bit. Look: they're not going to make you like something that you don't like to begin with, but they will do some amazing things with the things that you like, and the things you may be ambivalent about. As an avowed carnivore, I can safely say this about my visits to NeeHee's: I never miss the meat when I'm here. The facility itself is fine, but it's a lot of hard, non-sound-absorbing surfaces which usually isn't bad, unless there are annoying children "eating" there, and there often are families with extremely loud, very annoying children, especially during dinner rush. Yes, there's tons of seating available, but you can't get away from the screams. But the food...the food will *drag you back*, unapologetically. Don't forget the house-made ice cream, most of which is very impressive (though I do wish they had sugar cones). Again: the ice cream is pretty expensive, but it's good...*very* good. At the end, when you think about what you've had, your wallet will be hit pretty hard, but you'll have enjoyed what you had quite thoroughly. They're at the top of the local Indian food chain for a reason, and they're keeping the quality high, which is the most important thing. I never miss the meat. That should be as ringing an endorsement as I can make. read more

Oh My, I'm in Heaven! I drive by Neehee's Indian Vegetarian Street Food often, today I stopped in for the first time. I'm extremely impressed!! The staff is very patient and helpful to us first timers. There's plenty of tables, spacious, and well lit. The selection is tremendous. they have Vegetarian, Vegan, gluten free and Orthodox (no onion or garlic) offerings. I ordered the Bhel Puri - Crisp puffed rice tossed with tomato, onion, black chick peas, white chick peas, green Chili's and a green sweet and garlic chutney. It is like a cold salad, spicy & sweet, very refreshing. Then on to the Gobi Manchurian (dry) - Crisp (lightly battered and fried - not greasy at all) Califlower, tossed with onion, bell peppers, fresh ginger, garlic and signature Manchurian sauce. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was chicken, the texture is "to the tooth", the spices - craveable! Servings large, I will have much to take home. Next time, I'm bringing a few friends so we can sample each other's delectable. There's a Neehee's in Canton also. The Troy location hours are M - Th: 11am - 9:30pm Fri - Sat: 11am - 10pm. I have been to my besties place for thanks giving. After a whole day of shopping we were tired and we made a plan to just to stay at home for the next day. Later in the evening the weather was cloudy and we all thought to have some snack kind of thing. My friends took me to this place as it has some good menu on it. I would like to start off by saying the service that was given was excellent. I brought my wife in because she likes Indian food and I'm not really a big fan. When we first stepped into the Restaurant we were bombarded with a Wide variety of food options. As we approached the counter we were greeted by a young lady who was extremely patient with us, she gave us a few suggestions, told us that the food was slightly mild and just she was so pleasant to be helped by. We ended up ordering the panipuri, the Dosa masala sandwich which came with a very nice lentil soup hot as well and we ordered a chatt . Samosa. This was our first time there and we were admittedly newbies to the vast menu, but a guy came up right away and gave us a lot of pointers on the menu, asked what we were interested in and helped us navigate everything! We got the Dahi Samosa Chaat ( yogurt soaked Samosa, not spicy-- so good!!), Paneer Chili (had some spice to it- but who doesn't like spicy cheese?) and of course the Dosa (got the Onion rawa dosa). They have different types of dosas (crispy or more pancake) so I would ask the staff depending on your preference. Rawa was more crispy. Okay let me be honest. This place is a three star, but because of their bad service. But it's finally an Indian place that got it right. The flavors are mostly on point. The dosas are pretty decent, the chats are good, the parathas come with a beautiful smear of butter. I would definitely recommend sticking with the street food options. That's what they put up the place for. Get the mango lassi, it's wonderful albeit a little sweet. But they do mess up your order, I've waited 45 minutes for food at times. It's painful. It's loud and you hardly get the attention of the people at the register. It's not a pleasant experience at all. I didn't want to take away from the food because the food quality is in the upper range for India food in the area.
