Updating my review & downgrading to 1 star as the Owner seems intent to falsify information & mislead potential customers. -- I came in with engineered plans & drafting completed for a 990 sq ft by 12 ft high detached workshop & needed a quote to build it. So this included grading, foundation, running buried conduit and the obvious building construction. Basically 4 walls, a roof, 2 roll up doors, a couple shop lights and some electrical outlets plus ~200 ft of electrical wiring to a new panel. -- My quote was for $714,088 unless i agreed to take the "first visit bonus" and they'd do it for $606,975 but I had to agree to the full contract on the day of the quote visit. Pushy but clever on their part, sure. Would you like me to be more accurate, Danny? I paid $700k for my entire ~1 acre property with existing 2400 sq ft house & detached 440 sq ft garage. In what world is your pricing even remotely reasonable? -- I did not expect NeedForBuild to be the cheapest bid, but I also did not expect them to be 7x the price of the 3 competing offers I received. To other folks looking to build on their properties, I would advise you to look elsewhere. read more

We had a great experience with Need for Build from start to finish. We had an issue with my driveway and hillside eroding away due to the recent heavy rain and needed a retaining wall with a drain to properly fix the issue, which our insurance denied covering. Not only was Need for Build highly responsive when we reached out, but they also came by the very next day to check it out. In that first meeting Darrell identified the problem, gave us numerous quote options based on our financial options, desired functionality, and overall material appearance/durability, and offered to provide us with the necessary supporting evidence to rebuttal the insurance company's denial as this was a common issue in our area at the time and should have been covered. He also explained the company's financing options and warranty for the project, which were better than we had gotten from any other quote. It made it easy from the start to pick them. Once we decided on an option for the cost, materials, and financing, the project was done within 5 days. The crew was fully certified, extremely respectful, and arrived promptly first thing in the morning without being disruptive at any point in time. Darrell was with them every day and kept us updated with the status of the project the whole time, so we weren't left wondering about any issues or delays. The support didn't end there as the team continued to clearly communicate and assist us even after the wall was fully built. At the conclusion of the project, we faced an issue with the financing company and were still discussing the reassement with the insurance company. Darrell, Danny, and Dannie ensured everything went smoothly with both of these issues and made it clear we were a priority for them. We would highly recommend Need For Build for any project you need and have no doubt in my mind that they would treat you with the upsmost respect and attention. We will forever be grateful for the work and support they provided and will definitely be using them again in the near future! read more

I recently hired Need For Build to install a retaining wall and replace my driveway. While I am happy with the build quality, I chose them over the competition because of their Price Match Guarantee, which it turns out they do not honor. When they provide estimates, they give a Base Price and a "First Visit Price" that's 15% off the Base Price. They also guarantee that they will price match a lower estimate AND pay 10% of the difference (in cash) between their price and the matched estimate. A couple days after I signed with Need For Build, I received an estimate that was almost $10k less than their bid, which I then submitted to them for a price match. They proceeded to string me along for two and a half months, dodging several requests for an update, and eventually went quiet on me. My takeaway for others: do not trust their sales process, say no to the "First Visit Price", and shop around for other estimates, since their Price Match Guarantee is meaningless and won't be honored. I would definitely have used them for other projects had they honored their word, but moving forward I'll be looking elsewhere and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

Ivan, Robert, Guerro and the crews are all incredible. The outdoor kitchen/bar they built in my backyard is truly a sight to behold, and these guys knocked it out of the park. They couldn't have been easier to work with, and got everything done really fast! I don't think there was a single day of downtime that they weren't working. I couldn't recommend NFB highly enough, and they will be my go-to call for any future needs! read more

Hired Need For Build to do concrete work on the side and rear of our home. Overall we are happy with the results, quality, and communication during this project. We were working with a blank canvas and our PM did a great job walking us through the process and communicating the work that was planned each day. When issues popped up during construction (issues from the home builder not Need For Build) we were explained everything that they discovered. Would give 4.5 stars if I could; only docking 0.5 stars because of clean up items after the job was done (a lot of screws from the forms left behind and some other things). Would definitely work with them again. read more

We have just finished a big back yard remodel, and I must say that from start to finish the experience was nothing but great. Our project manager Isaac was awesome and very responsive, was very attentive and down to detail. We have interviewed a few companies and although need for build wasn't the cheapest they definitely brought the most value to the table. Our next project is our kitchen and no doubt we will use them again. Highly recommended, DO NOT THINK TWICE, they are the real deal. read more

My review is only from an initial consultation. I really debated writing this, but felt strong enough about the whole interaction that I felt I needed to make others aware about what to expect: Pros: Great communication when I expressed interest. They set up an appointment right away. Were the most informative out of the three places I contacted. When the project manager showed up, she provided a great amount of detail regarding how everything worked and the company's certifications/ratings/workers comp etc. I felt that if I chose them, work would be completed well and I wouldn't have many issues. Cons and why I'm not moving forward: The proposed 60-90 minute consultation went from measurements into 3+ hours and what felt like a time share presentation. She never really listened to our overall goals (a bathroom remodel in the current space) and spoke about extravagant/erroneous things (demo to part of spare bedroom or kitchen) without regards to our budget. We never got a sketch of what anything would look like, and all costs were hand written down on paper that wasn't handed to us. It then turned into a full on sales pitch regarding a 15% discount for signing on today (or we would lose it). When I stated I needed 48 hours, I was ignored and repeatedly asked why. She would align saying she was the same way with major decisions, but then began pushing for us to sign a contract, and pumping us full of questions as to why we wouldn't sign. Additional discounts were then divulged, including the words "I would hate for you to lose this deal", "I could be fired for doing this", and "I really like you guys." Once I started hearing this (keep in mind this is 3 hours into what was supposed to be a consultation), I pretty much shut down. I left the meeting exhausted and defeated. What should be exciting (yay new bathroom!) turned into a relentless high pressure sales pitch that I had no way of escaping, as it was in my home. While the project manager was nice, there was a complete lack of awareness or respect regarding our feelings. The worst part is I would have seriously considered them if this meeting had stopped at 90 minutes and been what I asked for: a consultation. Unfortunately the high pressure tactic lost our business and I will be looking elsewhere. I sincerely hope they can learn from this, give potential clients some breathing room, and focus on providing a great product. read more

Had someone come out for an estimate, and wouldn't ya know it..... the price changed once we decided to sign a contract. Apparently, a "misunderstanding" of the type of tile for installation caused the price to more than double. It was quite apparent what was happening because it was so clumsy. Nonetheless, beware. Update: The owner of the company called and we talked. It is NEVER the problem, but the response to the problem determines the integrity of the business. They clearly passed the test and we have reconsidered our decision and are moving forward with this company. read more

We just finished a full backyard remodel for our house in San Diego. I have to say this was one of the best experiences I had with a company, from the quality of materials to workmanship to the communication from our amazing project manager Isaac everything was just smooth and perfect, having saved up money for a few years to do the project we were so nervous at the beginning, but now we are so happy with our decision and will recommend everyone to just not think twice and just go with need for build, they might not be the cheapest but they deliver a great product. Good luck everyone with your projects. read more

Just finished a small landscaping project with need for build, I am so pleased I chose this company, they helped me design the project, approve it by the HOA super smooth, (which ours is a nightmare). They started on time and finished ahead of time. The communication was awesome, the attention to detail was great and the overall experience was just really amazing. If you want to deal with a contractor that will really deliver on what's your money worths THIS IS IT. I don't really understand the other reviews here that complaint about a 4 hours presentation or discount if you move forward same day, I actually really appreciated it, they answered all my questions and spent time to design my project to the T in the first appointment and gave me an itemized quote IN THE FIRST APPOINTMENT, no one does that. After seeing all that, I already decided I'm going with this company, so their first visit bonus was actually a great thing for me. THIS COMPANY IS THE REAL DEAL, DO NOT HESITATE USING THEM. Thank you need for build, you restored my trust In the contracting industry, highly recommend you guys!!! read more

We contacted Need For Build when we were considering a major addition including a bathroom to our home. They discussed with us and evaluated our home. They then made a recommendation that we had not considered, simplifying the project and saving us a lot of money while still achieving what we really needed. Fast forward several years and we were having an issue with a couple of outlets associated with the addition. The owner returned our call and sent an electrician the same day. He was cheerful, professional, and competent! He had it sorted in about an hour. The electrical issue seemed to be caused by an unrelated breaker panel upgrade. Nevertheless, we were not billed for the fix. Need For Build has delivered beyond our expectations! read more

Met with a rep. From Need to build. The consultation was very informative. Very friendly and understanding of what I was looking for.

Need For Build is an excellent company. We hired them to overhaul both our front and backyard. The project was huge. The cost was above average, and the completed work was of high quality. NFB built a retaining wall topped with a new vinyl fence, leveled and filled our backyard, and then installed artificial turf and DG. They poured new stamped concrete. We also had them take down our old patio cover and install a new Alumawood patio cover. Beautiful! The project progressed to the front yard where NFB demolished our old large driveway and sidewalks, pouring new stamped concrete. The flower beds and front yard were also overhauled. We had DG, a river rock swale, plants, and a tree installed. Beautiful! Derek was our project manager. He was very professional, friendly, and accessible. He addressed all of our questions and concerns in a complete and timely manner. Derek was a pleasure to work with. All of NFB's employees on our project were professional, worked hard, and cleaned up our property nicely at the end of each work day. NFB also stands behind their work with great customer service; correcting any issues and providing a guarantee of quality through warranties for work completed. read more

My experience with Need for Build was nothing short of outstanding. Aaron and Angelo were with me every step of the way building a much needed retaining wall in my front yard to address years of erosion on a steep slope. They even helped me pick out plants that will spread to further address the slope erosion. Joe Joe and his crew were wonderful. They did what I thought was the impossible and had my retaining wall done in 2 days. With the torrential rains that occurred after completion of the wall there were some issues. I called Aaron and the crew was quick to respond to address and correct the issues. Need for Build is not the cheapest but they're not the most expensive either. I will be using them for future projects including a botched pavers job I had done in November 2022 by a substandard contractor. Thanks much Aaron & Angelo! read more

My wife and I selected Need for Build to renovate our landscaping after a thorough review of several companies. The job involved improvements to just about everything we could imagine. Front Yard: Drought-tolerant rocks and mulch; lighting around walkways and retaining wall; front porch seating area and retaining wall; driveway and front walkway pavers; small palm tree; plants and succulents. Side/Back Yard: Drought-tolerant rocks and mulch; four display pedestals; steps and retaining wall with planters; stepping stones and rocks on side walkway; 2 raised planter beds (3'x5'); lighting around pedestals, trees and pedestals; plants and succulents; sand and paint back yard metal fence. I thought that a job this big would have to be done in phases, over 2-3 months. However, Need for Build said that they could get the entire job done in over a few weeks. NFB provided us with a 3D rendering of our vision to help us finalize our design and obtain HOA approval within a week. The work started on time and the crew was amazing from start to finish (5 weeks). They paid attention to every detail and really brought our plans to life. Our neighbors are constantly praising the design and workmanship! We couldn't be happier with the results! Thank you Need for Build! read more

Worked with Need For Build to build a deck on our back hill to capitalize on the view. The design and permitting process was pretty complex and took a couple different designs to get final approval from the city. NFB handled it all through the lengthy process. Construction was prompt once the permit was approved and persisted through the inspections and the complexity of the geology (solid blue granite) of our back hill. NFB had the experience to get it done. There was a few issues post construction, NFB stood by their work and corrected any problems we had. All in all they did a great job, and we are very happy with our view deck read more

I would like to share my experience with a local family owned company in Poway, Need For Build. You may have heard of them, they do everything from home additions, kitchens with 3D design, landscape, roofing, and of course windows and doors. We had just a small project for them, replacement of 2 sliding doors from the 1987 original to Anlin. In a nutshell, I am a realtor and have come across many contractors; these guys definitely gave me the "wow" feeling based on their attention to detail (I see everything due to my job) and their thoroughness. They came back several times to get it just right. When we first began getting quotes, David came to our house (before Covid) and detailed the product, options on how to manage the intense California sun, how they would do the install and do it right. Even the owner Danny was in the loop! We did shop around a little and though they weren't the cheapest, they are quality with over and above attention to detail and take care of their workers with worker's comp. Another reason we went with Need for Build is that they provided a quality product, much nicer than what you would find at Home Depot or Lowes, at a very fair price. One of the best things for us was the installation on a 40 year old house. This wasn't a situation where they were going to pull out the old and pop in the new and be gone in a few hours. They started the demo and realized the siding would have to be replaced near the doors and would have to special order it. They never tried to change the price knowing the job was getting bigger and longer.. and when they came back they realized they had to replace the wood trim around a nearby window. Again, never complained and this was in 90+ degree heat in full sun with masks on. I made sure they got a nice tip for being so accommodating. Those areas look like a completely different house and as a realtor I would say the house would be perceived to have a higher market value when it comes time to sell. The interior trim that Vlad handmade custom for us makes it look more modern or contemporary. The outside just makes me want to get the new windows done to match. Gr. I like that this is a local family owned company. Danny had came over to talk to us, David is his cousin I think, and Danny's sister-in-law called us after the project to make sure we were satisfied and had all our needs covered. Reached out to yelp for a 1,200 sqft pavers patio and side of house walkway, a conduit trenching to pull utilities 60 ft, and small 18in retaining wall for 60 ft. Was contacted by Need For Build. After an over 2 hour presentation on how they are the best company to work with and disparaging their competition they provided an obscene quote that was 2-3 times other quotes we received. High pressure sales tactics which provide a 15% discount if you sign that day. After I repeatedly told them that I wanted to wait and get more quotes they found a way to drop the price an additional 20%; was still higher than other quotes. On a side note, my wife felt super creeped out by the staff and decided to go upstairs mid-way the presentation until they left. This is not a reputable firm to work with given their high pressure tactics; though I assume they probably do a decent job based on all the great things they said about themselves. read more

We hired Need For Build to fix up our front yard living space. Really, we just wanted a fence and a patio. Avi came over, listened attentively to our needs and wishes, and almost instantly created a complete vision of our new outdoor oasis in his mind. For the next 9 months, Avi and his talented crews meticulously executed his plan from computer renderings to completion, adhering to the highest standards in construction and design, adapting to our many requests and changes, solving unanticipated challenges when they arose, and responding immediately to any concerns we raised. Now, an unattractive grassy slope and "patio" cobbled together with unevenly-laid pavers has become an outdoor kitchen, covered patio, firepit area, private spa area, and turf play yard. In addition, we have new stucco, windows, doors, insulation, sewer line - and even a newly tiled fireplace inside. It was refreshing to work with a professional contractor who conducts business with integrity, honesty, and transparency. Our contract was written in detail, including clear timelines for progress payments and work to be completed. Change orders were handled the same way. We did not make payments until jobs were done, and we only placed a 10% deposit to begin work, as required by law (how many other contractors have asked us for 50% or more just to start work?). We especially appreciated that nearly everyone that worked on our project is employed by Need For Build, and very little was subcontracted out, ensuring a high quality of workmanship. When there were glitches that need correction, they were handled immediately and without blame. We never heard excuses or blame-shifting. The job site was cleaned daily, the porta-potty was clean and serviced weekly, and materials were delivered on an as-needed basis, so as not to clutter our yard and driveway. Everyone who worked on our project was polite and considerate - they spoke kindly, dressed appropriately, and respected noise levels. I am a very "hands-on" customer (not the easiest kind). I am attentive to detail and not shy about pointing out flaws and sharing frustrations. I was continually impressed and comforted by Avi's gentle demeanor, authoritative command of every aspect of construction, and fantastic eye toward design. He calmly reassured me when I got worried, patiently explained things when I had questions, and confidently guided me toward the best decisions resulting in a near-perfect, new 1500-square foot outdoor living space that is the envy of all our neighbors. I want to especially give thanks to Mario, whose skills masterfully brought our new kitchen, patio and fence to life with a touch of perfection that I could never have imagined. Today, we are beyond grateful for Avi and the entire team at Need For Build, for they have brought our run-down yard to life, enhanced the value of our home, and improved our quality of life. We cannot wait to continue working with Need For Build on our next projects, and we already know what they are! Hire this company already - you will not be disappointed! read more

In 2020, Need For Build did a kitchen remodel for me, as well as installing pavers for my patio. Almost 5 years later, three small issues popped up. I remembered how back in 2020 they had emphasized their dedication to quality work and how they would stand behind it even years down the road. So with that in mind, I contacted Ramy and without any hesitation, he came over to look at the three items. Shortly after, he sent over technicians/repairmen to take care of all three issues, and sure enough everything was addressed to my satisfaction with no cost to me. I was quite impressed to see that the company doesn't just talk about "satisfaction guaranteed" but that they actually live that belief. Thank you Ramy and team! Your help was much appreciated. read more

We contracted Need for Build for some turf and concrete work in our backyard and sideyard. Doron came out and provided us with a comprehensive quote and offered suggestions as we tried to figure out exactly what we wanted. They were flexible with timing, the start date was only a week or two after signing and were able to move their timing around to fit our needs based on other work we had going on. Once they started work Doron came out every day, most of the time multiple times a day, which is something we have been promised by contractors but never actually experienced as projects start. He would go over the progress, let us know what was going to be worked on next, ask if everything looks good, and offer suggestions as they progressed on the job. One thing they do extremely well is they place an emphasis on customer satisfaction. We had some feedback on a portion of the turf prior to completion and they immediately sent someone out to fix/change to make sure we were satisfied. The only negative I can think of was that the price was higher than we expected and they offer a discount that is only available the night of, which I understand why they offer and require a commitment. Overall, I would recommend using them as we have had other work done on our backyard and this was by far the quickest, cleanest, and best contract we have had by a large amount. read more

Less than joyful experience. The guys were great and made some wonderful cuts but the foreman Chris just nods and doesn't take note of what you're saying and say they'll get it done. He forget's and you have to constantly bug. This wasn't even what upset me. I gave him specifications for the gas fire pit we purchased and he must've wiped his behind with them because the gas pipe was not at the length we needed. Instead he tried to get one of the landscape guys to fix instead of calling in a LICENSED PLUMBER to fix the GAS PIPE. None of these guys are in house, all subbed. Huge scam and huge red flag. Need for Build = Need for Praise . I've worked with many services and have recommended only Need For Build when it comes to knowledgeable, experienced and professional contractors for myself and for my clients. I am a realtor in San Diego so my reputation is everything to me and Danny Almog, owner of Need For Build, Inc has always made me look good! My first impression was that this company knew their stuff! They knew their prices per square foot for demo, for every piece of material and labor. Their communication was consistent and honest. Given the smaller size of my project, they still made me feel like it was one of their bigger projects, all while actually juggling larger-sized projects. It's true, in their initial, no pressure consultation, they did show me the extensive breadth of work that the company had done in the recent past, but only to explain the scope of the projects and help me set the right expectations. The truth is, Need for Build were the third company to come in and pitch their services to me for my project. The other two were horrible at following back and following up, didn't know their prices and needed more time, while not calling me back. Self-defeating and seemed counter-conducive to winning the bid for my project. When one of the other guys finally did get back to me, his price was unbelievably lower! Bad communication, cheap, cheap pricing, expectations low, no thanks! Saving money would have meant increasing my headache and a higher risk of job-abandonment down the road. I went with the safer bet and my wife and I are happier for it. When the demo team came by, with their crew, bobcat and dump truck, I was impressed! Again, my project was not the large-scale variety of job, but they treated mine like one nonetheless. Love this team, love this company and despite having bigger projects to finish at the same time, they finished mine on time. No pressure, no diamonds! I hope to be treated with this much enthusiasm by my dentists, car salesman, or any other professional going forward. They've really set the standard. read more

Need For Build - General Contractors Near Me - Poway, California

If you want a stress free + problem free remodel (small or big) you need to contact Need For Build ASAP and make sure you ask for Nadir Avivi as your project manager! We did our recent whole house renovation beginning of 2021 and everyone warned me how much work and stress it was going to be. Honestly overall, amongst all the nightmare stories I've heard from friends who has gone through major renovations, I think I was really blessed. Of course no renovation is perfect but it's how you handle it when issues arise. Most importantly how your project manager handles it when problems arise. Nadir was always attentive and never hesitated to put more resources in order to complete a task - I've seen other contractors being cheap about resources and this means prolonged timelines. Nope not Nadir or Need for build. They are super efficient and good with time/planning. We started our remodel Feb 01 2021 and finished in roughly 2 months. I would even say it was 90% done in 1 month but the last month is minor touch ups. We did entire kitchen, 2 bathrooms, floors, etc you name it. Our house was about 1200 sq ft. Their pricing is reasonable/fair and aligns with other contractors around the San Diego area. Sometimes your cheapest quote does not mean stress free. I really wanted this to be stress free and good quality and that is what I got! Nadir and his team (his right hand man is Raniel - who I think is one of the best guys I ever worked with) are like family to us now. We have a huge list of projects we want to do with Need for build and Nadir in the next coming months/years. I know he will always take care of us. One tiny detail I want to include, I had asked Nadir to help quote a family members remodel. The house was 2 hours outside of San Diego. But Nadir didn't even hesitate and brought his best point of contact in that area to quote with him. Now that is service and dedication! It didn't end up working out (they decided to just sell the house instead) but we would have gone with Nadir and Need for Build for this whole house renovation as well. This is a long review and I still have so much more good things to say. But hands down go with them and request Nadir and you won't be sorry!! read more

Doron and Chris just finished a remake of my backyard. Doron consulted with me and laid out all the things that would happen, and the final cost. I agreed and signed the contract. Over the next few weeks, Doron kept me updated on the next steps, got my OK ahead of time to be at my house with Chris and his crew, and finished up the project smoothly and to my complete satisfaction. Reasons why I will hire NFB for my next project: Costs and procedures were fully disclosed before signing contracts; communications were excellent without any misunderstanding occurring; all my questions were answered as the work progressed; crew neatly cleaned up after themselves ; and the results were exactly as I had hoped for. In sum, Doron managed a smooth flow of my backyard remake, and I am totally satisfied with the result and the cost. read more

We had Need For Build replace our roof that was aged and leaking. They came out and measured, then told us they could get a crew out in 3 days. Sure enough, 3 days later they came out and replaced the roof over the course of the next 2 days. Due to the slope of the roof they had to change plans on what material they could use, which led to our warranty increasing from 30 years to 40 years. There was no additional charge for using the longer lasting material or extending the warranty. Our contractor, Darrell, was very communicative through the entire process.
