After an over 2 hour presentation on how they are the best company to work with and disparaging their competition they provided an obscene quote that was 2-3 times other quotes we received. High pressure sales tactics which provide a 15% discount if you sign that day. After I repeatedly told them that I wanted to wait and get more quotes they found a way to drop the price an additional 20%; was still higher than other quotes. On a side note, my wife felt super creeped out by the staff and decided to go upstairs mid-way the presentation until they left. This is not a reputable firm to work with given their high pressure tactics; though I assume they probably do a decent job based on all the great things they said about themselves. read more

We were working with a blank canvas and our PM did a great job walking us through the process and communicating the work that was planned each day. My review is only from an initial consultation. I really debated writing this, but felt strong enough about the whole interaction that I felt I needed to make others aware about what to expect: Pros: Great communication when I expressed interest. They set up an appointment right away. Were the most informative out of the three places I contacted. When the project manager showed up, she provided a great amount of detail regarding how everything worked and the company's certifications/ratings/workers comp etc. I felt that if I chose them, work would be completed well and I wouldn't have many issues. Cons and why I'm not moving forward: The proposed 60-90 minute consultation went from measurements into 3+ hours and what felt like a time share presentation. She never really listened to our overall goals (a bathroom remodel in the current space) and spoke about extravagant/erroneous things (demo to part of spare bedroom or kitchen) without regards to our budget. We never got a sketch of what anything would look like, and all costs were hand written down on paper that wasn't handed to us. It then turned into a full on sales pitch regarding a 15% discount for signing on today (or we would lose it). When I stated I needed 48 hours, I was ignored and repeatedly asked why. She would align saying she was the same way with major decisions, but then began pushing for us to sign a contract, and pumping us full of questions as to why we wouldn't sign. Additional discounts were then divulged, including the words "I would hate for you to lose this deal", "I could be fired for doing this", and "I really like you guys." Once I started hearing this (keep in mind this is 3 hours into what was supposed to be a consultation), I pretty much shut down. I left the meeting exhausted and defeated. What should be exciting (yay new bathroom!) turned into a relentless high pressure sales pitch that I had no way of escaping, as it was in my home. While the project manager was nice, there was a complete lack of awareness or respect regarding our feelings. The worst part is I would have seriously considered them if this meeting had stopped at 90 minutes and been what I asked for: a consultation. Unfortunately the high pressure tactic lost our business and I will be looking elsewhere. They then made a recommendation that we had not considered, simplifying the project and saving us a lot of money while still achieving what we really needed. Need For Build is an excellent company. We hired them to overhaul both our front and backyard. The project was huge. The cost was above average, and the completed work was of high quality. NFB built a retaining wall topped with a new vinyl fence, leveled and filled our backyard, and then installed artificial turf and DG. They poured new stamped concrete. We also had them take down our old patio cover and install a new Alumawood patio cover. Beautiful! The project progressed to the front yard where NFB demolished our old large driveway and sidewalks, pouring new stamped concrete. The flower beds and front yard were also overhauled. We had DG, a river rock swale, plants, and a tree installed. Beautiful! Derek was our project manager. He was very professional, friendly, and accessible. He addressed all of our questions and concerns in a complete and timely manner. Derek was a pleasure to work with. All of NFB's employees on our project were professional, worked hard, and cleaned up our property nicely at the end of each work day. Aaron and Angelo were with me every step of the way building a much needed retaining wall in my front yard to address years of erosion on a steep slope. They even helped me pick out plants that will spread to further address the slope erosion. Joe Joe and his crew were wonderful. They did what I thought was the impossible and had my retaining wall done in 2 days. With the torrential rains that occurred after completion of the wall there were some issues. Worked with Need For Build to build a deck on our back hill to capitalize on the view. The design and permitting process was pretty complex and took a couple different designs to get final approval from the city. NFB handled it all through the lengthy process. Construction was prompt once the permit was approved and persisted through the inspections and the complexity of the geology (solid blue granite) of our back hill. I would like to share my experience with a local family owned company in Poway, Need For Build. You may have heard of them, they do everything from home additions, kitchens with 3D design, landscape, roofing, and of course windows and doors. We had just a small project for them, replacement of 2 sliding doors from the 1987 original to Anlin. In a nutshell, I am a realtor and have come across many contractors; these guys definitely gave me the "wow" feeling based on their attention to detail (I see everything due to my job) and their thoroughness. They came back several times to get it just right. When we first began getting quotes, David came to our house (before Covid) and detailed the product, options on how to manage the intense California sun, how they would do the install and do it right. Even the owner Danny was in the loop! We did shop around a little and though they weren't the cheapest, they are quality with over and above attention to detail and take care of their workers with worker's comp. Another reason we went with Need for Build is that they provided a quality product, much nicer than what you would find at Home Depot or Lowes, at a very fair price. One of the best things for us was the installation on a 40 year old house. This wasn't a situation where they were going to pull out the old and pop in the new and be gone in a few hours. They started the demo and realized the siding would have to be replaced near the doors and would have to special order it. They never tried to change the price knowing the job was getting bigger and longer.. and when they came back they realized they had to replace the wood trim around a nearby window. Again, never complained and this was in 90+ degree heat in full sun with masks on. I made sure they got a nice tip for being so accommodating. Those areas look like a completely different house and as a realtor I would say the house would be perceived to have a higher market value when it comes time to sell. The interior trim that Vlad handmade custom for us makes it look more modern or contemporary. The outside just makes me want to get the new windows done to match. Gr. Less than joyful experience. The guys were great and made some wonderful cuts but the foreman Chris just nods and doesn't take note of what you're saying and say they'll get it done. He forget's and you have to constantly bug. This wasn't even what upset me. I gave him specifications for the gas fire pit we purchased and he must've wiped his behind with them because the gas pipe was not at the length we needed. Instead he tried to get one of the landscape guys to fix instead of calling in a LICENSED PLUMBER to fix the GAS PIPE. None of these guys are in house, all subbed. Huge scam and huge red flag. We hired Need For Build to fix up our front yard living space. Really, we just wanted a fence and a patio. Avi came over, listened attentively to our needs and wishes, and almost instantly created a complete vision of our new outdoor oasis in his mind. For the next 9 months, Avi and his talented crews meticulously executed his plan from computer renderings to completion, adhering to the highest standards in construction and design, adapting to our many requests and changes, solving unanticipated challenges when they arose, and responding immediately to any concerns we raised. Now, an unattractive grassy slope and "patio" cobbled together with unevenly-laid pavers has become an outdoor kitchen, covered patio, firepit area, private spa area, and turf play yard. In addition, we have new stucco, windows, doors, insulation, sewer line - and even a newly tiled fireplace inside. It was refreshing to work with a professional contractor who conducts business with integrity, honesty, and transparency. Our contract was written in detail, including clear timelines for progress payments and work to be completed. Change orders were handled the same way. We did not make payments until jobs were done, and we only placed a 10% deposit to begin work, as required by law (how many other contractors have asked us for 50% or more just to start work?). We especially appreciated that nearly everyone that worked on our project is employed by Need For Build, and very little was subcontracted out, ensuring a high quality of workmanship. When there were glitches that need correction, they were handled immediately and without blame. We never heard excuses or blame-shifting. The job site was cleaned daily, the porta-potty was clean and serviced weekly, and materials were delivered on an as-needed basis, so as not to clutter our yard and driveway. Everyone who worked on our project was polite and considerate - they spoke kindly, dressed appropriately, and respected noise levels. I am a very "hands-on" customer (not the easiest kind). I am attentive to detail and not shy about pointing out flaws and sharing frustrations. I was continually impressed and comforted by Avi's gentle demeanor, authoritative command of every aspect of construction, and fantastic eye toward design. He calmly reassured me when I got worried, patiently explained things when I had questions, and confidently guided me toward the best decisions resulting in a near-perfect, new 1500-square foot outdoor living space that is the envy of all our neighbors. I want to especially give thanks to Mario, whose skills masterfully brought our new kitchen, patio and fence to life with a touch of perfection that I could never have imagined. We contracted Need for Build for some turf and concrete work in our backyard and sideyard. Doron came out and provided us with a comprehensive quote and offered suggestions as we tried to figure out exactly what we wanted. They were flexible with timing, the start date was only a week or two after signing and were able to move their timing around to fit our needs based on other work we had going on. Once they started work Doron came out every day, most of the time multiple times a day, which is something we have been promised by contractors but never actually experienced as projects start. He would go over the progress, let us know what was going to be worked on next, ask if everything looks good, and offer suggestions as they progressed on the job. One thing they do extremely well is they place an emphasis on customer satisfaction. We had some feedback on a portion of the turf prior to completion and they immediately sent someone out to fix/change to make sure we were satisfied. The only negative I can think of was that the price was higher than we expected and they offer a discount that is only available the night of, which I understand why they offer and require a commitment. Overall, I would recommend using them as we have had other work done on our backyard and this was by far the quickest, cleanest, and best contract we have had by a large amount. read more

I called for an estimate from Need for Build near Poway Ca. in September of 2024. To their credit they arrived the next day and gave me a quote and started work the next day. I was told the work would take 10 days, but then after two months it was finally complete. I do think the people doing the work did some quality things, but there are some things that were not done professionally. This past weekend after the first rain I found that the patio replacement made of Alumawood leaked. I also noted that the artificial turf they installed has begun to raise where it meets the concrete of the patio. There are other items I am extremely unhappy with such as the patch up in the concrete where the post from the old patio cover sat. Since they did not provide me any written receipts for payment or who to call in case of quality issues, I turned to Yelp to let people know to be mindful when selecting your contractor. We had Need For Build replace our roof that was aged and leaking. They came out and measured, then told us they could get a crew out in 3 days. Sure enough, 3 days later they came out and replaced the roof over the course of the next 2 days. Due to the slope of the roof they had to change plans on what material they could use, which led to our warranty increasing from 30 years to 40 years. There was no additional charge for using the longer lasting material or extending the warranty. Our contractor, Darrell, was very communicative through the entire process. He sent pictures and videos each day to update us on the progress and made sure everything was perfect before we made final payment. Overall it was a very good experience. read more

Learned about this place from our local community forum on social media. I decided to request a free consultation for a patio cover via their website, and I received a call within 20 minutes of submitting it, which caught me off guard at work. I was able to schedule a visit on a Sunday the following week by Ivan and Aaron. During the consultation, they went over many different options and we eventually took a deal that saved us some money by agreeing to having them build a patio cover for us that very same day of the consultation. Fast forward, supplies and the build happened quicker than anticipated. They even came to the house while I was out of the country, away on vacation in Japan, to complete the build. They took pictures when completed, I even checked my security footage to see how long it took, and just like they stated, they were done that very same day and cleaned up after themselves nicely. If you want a stress free + problem free remodel (small or big) you need to contact Need For Build ASAP and make sure you ask for Nadir Avivi as your project manager! We did our recent whole house renovation beginning of 2021 and everyone warned me how much work and stress it was going to be. Honestly overall, amongst all the nightmare stories I've heard from friends who has gone through major renovations, I think I was really blessed. Of course no renovation is perfect but it's how you handle it when issues arise. Most importantly how your project manager handles it when problems arise. Nadir was always attentive and never hesitated to put more resources in order to complete a task - I've seen other contractors being cheap about resources and this means prolonged timelines. Nope not Nadir or Need for build. They are super efficient and good with time/planning. We started our remodel Feb 01 2021 and finished in roughly 2 months. I would even say it was 90% done in 1 month but the last month is minor touch ups. We did entire kitchen, 2 bathrooms, floors, etc you name it. Our house was about 1200 sq ft. Their pricing is reasonable/fair and aligns with other contractors around the San Diego area. Sometimes your cheapest quote does not mean stress free. I really wanted this to be stress free and good quality and that is what I got! Nadir and his team (his right hand man is Raniel - who I think is one of the best guys I ever worked with) are like family to us now. We have a huge list of projects we want to do with Need for build and Nadir in the next coming months/years. I know he will always take care of us. One tiny detail I want to include, I had asked Nadir to help quote a family members remodel. The house was 2 hours outside of San Diego. But Nadir didn't even hesitate and brought his best point of contact in that area to quote with him. Now that is service and dedication! Our first major home renovation project required Contractors with above average communication, quality experience, and patience to educate us in the process. Jonathan and his team met our high standards. He always conducted face to face consultations going over all the work step by step, coordinated all the work for the project, and answered all our questions and calls. We also worked with their experienced and knowledgeable landscape architect who walked us through design, developed blueprints, and, between him and Jonathan, did all the work to obtain permits. The Project: They excavated through a large hill giving us about 400 sq. ft of living space and built a sturdy retaining that will last a lifetime! (See pictures) The Money: Jonathan was always considerate of our budget. I found their pricing to be reasonable and well worth what we paid. I witnessed his team working hard every day through 90 degree heat and still be friendly and helpful. I completely see and understand where our money went to. We invested in our home, good quality workers, precious square feet with a retaining wall built to last, and outstanding customer service. Priceless considering the stress involved in coordinating such a large project from permits, bulldozers, etc. We are very happy with the quality of work and customer service and hired them to complete a second major project!
