We've had yearly summer vacations the last 30+ years with our family at Neal's. Prices are just right. Enough to pay for a decent cabin that keeps you out of the elements and gets you some AC for quality nights sleep. Kitchen so you can cook and keep foods cold in the fridge. An added benefit is the amazing swimming spot that offers a low area for the youngins and deeper spots with a slide and rocks to jump off for the older kids! To add they have a restaurant on site and an outdoor dance hall for the family! Such a hidden gem for those people who haven't heard or been blessed to experience it! We love Neal's!

My family had a little gathering here this summer and it was lovely! I was told I had actually been to Neal's when I was a kid once but couldn't remember anything specific about it. I just remembered being on the river. Fast forward 30 years or so and I thought the campground was well kept. In the back there are 3 cabins and we had them all rented out for several nights. Each cabin had 3 bedrooms with multiple beds each. 2 full bathrooms, full kitchen, living room and dining room. There were fire pits and grills out back and we could wander back and forth to each other's cabins. You can pay a $35 for sheets from Neal's which my cabin did. We brought towels and everything ourselves. The cabins were spacious and the perfect set up for us! The Frio was beautiful! We had family members that would get up early and go set up the canopies in the morning to get a prime spot on the water. By mid morning or so we were all down there chilling and playing! We had our camp chairs sitting in the river and coolers in the floats attached to the canopies. We were set for the day out there. It was relaxing and loads of fun! The kids enjoyed the water slide and jumping off the big rocks. The river was clean and clear - so beautiful! I can definitely see myself coming back here in the future!

Wonderful place for families. Not too many drunks or kids here like garner. Good swimming hole and a family environment.

View from our cabin. The Frio river. Cleanest river I've ever seen!

Thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend. This is rustic and quaint. Our cabin was clean, parking was fine. The view of the valley and river was so nice. Cabin 23. We were prepared with all our own towels, paper plates, pillows. Front desk service was friendly and professional. The restaurant food was great and the service matched that. Take everything you need- no real amenities if you're going to cook. We will definitely return!

Perfect.

We had so much fun here. A very memorable trip. The cabin was great. Fire pit, smoker, concrete picnic table, and wooden picnic table right outside. It's beautiful scenery during the day and so quiet and peaceful at night. We could see every star in the sky. Fellow travelers and the folks that work there were all cool. There is an awesome swimming hole and fishing spot right across the street. We're definitely going back. Try Neal's if you need a nice retreat or a real vacation. It's beautiful and lots to do. We really hated to leave as we had so much fun and there was some huge bbq event starting up that weekend. All these bbq trucks and trailers from all over started to show up on our last day. I guess they have some nice events throughout the year.

This was a great stay! This was our first time staying here and we had a so much fun. We have stayed at other places but this was by far the cleanest and nice place yet. I was a little surprised first with the price but took a chance and it paid off. The area was clean, the staff was excellent and nice and welcoming. Overall it was great stay. I know I'm being super picky here but the only drawback was the very hard beds. I totally understand the purpose for hard beds is that they last longer and for business purposes are better, but a little bit softer beds would be great after a long day at the river. But we will definitely be back and enjoy Neils again. It was our first time but it won't be our last!

We love Neal's Properties. This time rented Mama Jo's Cabin. Disappointed missing WiFi (for those that have to work) cell phone reception sucked. Didn't have a washer or dryer, beds suck, Brought my own electric skillet and electric griddle. Will find a different house next year.

It's just not the same. After decades of coming to Neal's, here's the latest: The day use area across the river and the excessive trashy drunks from Neal's itself has ruined the ambiance. Hearing lots of complaints about the cleanliness of cabins too. Not to mention there is a permanent confederate & rebel flag dawning the stage @ the Joe Jimmy's dance. Not exactly welcoming. The attached pic is from the owner's FB Page, so I guess it all makes sense now. (Yelp made me take it down but it was a 'Trumplican' elephant cartoon) RV sites are nice & clean but we wish the Neal/Buchanan family hadn't sold. We won't be back

The pool at the condos.

We stayed at the condos and it was very nice. It had a swimming pool with a slide that my kids really enjoyed. However, I would rather stay on site closer to the Frio river just so I don't have to drive. But our first time, we enjoyed our trip and look forward to go again!

If you are looking to get away from the city or from wherever you live and come to a place that has amazing views and quiet time this is the place for you. There are so many activities to do around here from horseback riding to floating the crystal clear river in giant tubes this is it. Quiet time for you and your mind away from the realities of life. They even have live music over by Neal's Store along with a nice bar over at Jimmy Joe. The whole area is divided into sections but from what I gather it is all good. Waking up in the morning sitting outside and just taking in the beauty of nature is what gives you peace of mind. Perfect place for the entire family to wind down.

Great place with recent very poor judgement... After seeing what took place in Concan over Memorial weekend, I for one am very pleased with Governor Abbott's decision to close all tubing / rafting business during this State increase of COVID pandemic. It was blatantly obvious every business in the upper Frio canyon had complete disregard for the guidelines set out by the CDC. Ignoring safe practices, only to put the bottom line ahead of health for the local community, patrons and everyone in contact with them upon return home. How many ICU beds are in Uvalde? Less than 10... Who has someone in their extended family at high risk of infection. Everyone. I understand it's a seasonal business. I have empathy for the challenges each face as business owners. Everyone is impacted. We are all affected by a large degree. That being said, renting tubes, cramming people into busses, allowing people to pile on top of each other in the river, is nothing short of complete social and societal irresponsibility. This isn't just a dig on Neal's, however Neal's is the main attraction to the area. Always has been. Please, find a way to coexist with this pandemic. Shuffle your business model. Pivot. Do it not only for the health of everyone you send on their way after they leave, but for the well being of the generations that still reside in your community. Let's take care of each other.

The sites are wide, level gravel and each has a big charcoal grill and picnic table. Half the sites are pull-thru, half are back-in. There is no television signal in the valley, but there is Dish equipment you can get from the office at no charge. Highly recommend it. Towing on Cty Rd 348...I would recommend only doing it from 83, which is kind of a wheel-gripper itself. 348 coming from 127 in Concan would be a nightmare. Once you're unhooked and settled in, take a drive across the river on 348 and you'll see what I mean. You'll love this park, and you'll love the owners. Don't forget to buy some corn for the deer and Rio Grande turkeys when you visit the office!

There's a small river that crosses through the camp site, but the tides were low and it didn't look like you could kayak or tube in it that weekend. It was nice to watch the ducks swim by though. I like that the campsite includes clean restrooms and showers. Each tent site provides you a bench, trash bin, bbq grill, and fire pit. Unfortunately, there was a burn ban in effect during our stay, so we couldn't light a wood fire. There was plenty of space between us and other campers, so it didn't feel cramped. One thing that could be improved is that the field is pretty rocky. We couldn't seem to find a spot for our tent that wouldn't drive a stone in our backs at night. The camp site offers kayak rentals, but it gets to be quite expensive. Visitors can also use the swimming pool located by the front office. It's more of a camper site with a dry-ish field nearby. I feel that this site just had extra land so it offered some camping grounds but you're basically in people's backyards on both sides, and near a highway so lots of car noise. Maybe there are sites offered deeper where you're not so close to roads and peoples homes. Overall, I still enjoyed my trip, but I would probably only return here if I had an RV Camper. Not the best spot for tent camping.

I am going to leave this review mainly for informational purposes, regarding the Shady Oaks Area,…read moreCamp Site Number 3 Everyone I have dealt with at the camp has been nice and friendly and I have no complaints about that. Reading past reviews seems people have had issues with customer service, but I did not run into that at all and everyone was great! I did not see them bugging the neighbors at all. And they weee up late. FYI- Reviewing Shady Oaks Area, Campsite 3. (1,2,3 & 4) Were not nice But, 5,6,7 etc. are nice. Pro: Lots of shade for sure!! CONS: 1. Super Dusty, makes the inside of your tent disgusting & full of silt 2. No Fire ring 3. Area on a slant, no flat surface area designated for tents & it's all rock and dirt 4. Hard to tell what area is yours 5. Old Bathrooms NEED better ventilation in them they are so disgusting and muggy you can't get dry. (They have new bath houses that are better but further away from Shady Oaks area) They do have nice cold water though and amazing water pressure that will rip your new sun burned skin off! Now I know why this spot was actually available. It truly sucked, sorry to say but that was my experience.... I should have not waited so long to make reservations. Like always there's good spots and bad spots. The river access is great. Plenty of spots to sit and soak, but it's no Garner State Park; There are some deep areas, water seemed warmer than usual. But, ya know no one controls that lol. So back to camping: I was just disappointed since you have to pay so much for the area, you get nickeled and dimed... 10 dollars each additional tent per day, 5 dollars extra per person etc etc... for $536 dollars for camping I expected nicer I guess.... Maybe it was my expectations that disappointed me. Camp Riverview is very RV friendly though, lots of great activities for children and the night sky was amazing. Will I return as a tent camper, NO. Way too expensive, to be crammed between the neighbors and and sleep on dust.... Although the riverfront spots seemed better and nicer, maybe I would have been happier there.
