If only there was a 0... Brought in a charles daly 12 ga with minor feed issue shells catching entering barrel and he told me $20-$25 i told him for a $160 gun that functioned it wasnt worth it and asked for my gun back. He pleaded for me to leave it fir a week so he could reverse engineer a fix for one he had with a tube issue. I hesitatantly oblidged but after reading reviews saw he tends to underquote and hold guns ransom til he is paid. This morning i went in at 9:30 to get my gun back his shop was closed (although his door said 9am to 5pm) waited an hour and he never showed. His shop is a 30min drive from me, it is now noon and he still has not returned my calls despite me leaving a message and calling on the hour. I took my Mossberg 500 12 ga. shotgun into Neal to repair a broken "safety lever." I had purchased a " safety lever kit" from MidwayUSA in order to fix it myself. After several attempts, with no success, I decided to Neal take a look at it. He told me it would be a couple of days wait due to pending work. The next day, he called me to come and get it! The problem was the "stock" spring was too long. After he shortened the spring, the safety works fine. Good job Neal and reasonably priced. Will take other firearms to Neal in the future. read more

I have used Neal's Gun Shop for 30, maybe 35 years. It was a father and son operation back in the 80s and now is operated by the son. They have always been fair, dependable, and have offered good deals in trade and purchase. I have been satisfied with gunsmithing they've done for me over the years. I had some pretty complex work done through them, porting, stock replacement/adjustment and finish work. They've obtained excellent factory repair deals with Browning firearms and accessories. Smithfield, in the Cache Valley, is a small community and yet there are a lot of firearms people. The business end of things seems to be a bit cut throat. It reminds me of the hustling in Detroit, where I grew up. I tend to avoid the buzz and go with established shops. Companies come and go but Neal's remains. So if it matters to you that your prize firearm is handled by a knowledgeable, second generation gunsmith, choose this business. You know I've always been one to support the little guy, keep it local in the Cache Valley they say! HOGWASH! I took two guns into Neal's gun shop in Smithfield Utah for what I considered to be minor repairs. The first gun was a Berette silver pigeon. When taken in it was not firing the second barrel without a quick tap on the ground. He told me he shot the gun and assured me he had fixed the problem. That was complete BS! First time out, the second barrel did not function. I tried several different brands of ammunition from low brass sheet shot to high brass steel shot. It still would not shoot the second barrel. In addition the forearm now has a small crack in it that was NOT there when I took the gun in. Go figure... Now for the second gun. A Remington 870 special field light weight. I have had this gun for 30+ years. And yes, at times it has been used to break ice, used as a boat oar, it's even been to the bottom of the river several times. However, it performs as if it were taken out of the box yesterday. It's a Remington! My reason for bringing it in was not to have it fixed, but to have 4 parts ordered. A magazine spring, magazine slide and two shell ejectors. My decision for writing this review is not due to the shops show up when it's convenient hours, nor is it the fact that he had my guns for over a month! It wasn't even due to the dry, condescending tone of voice he uses with his customers. It's due to the fact and simply put, he is a LIAR! I go to shoot the Remington which is still extremely loose in the action, take it home to clean it as I've done thousands of times and to my surprise there were the same warn out shell ejectors. WHAT THE F_ _k? Granted the cost to fix both guns was a little under $100.00. Which isn't going to break the bank. But, a $100.00 is a $100.00. Oh and I should add he said that he clean both guns too. Something he was not asked to do. I would recommend that anyone who takes their firearms to this shop do a complete look over on your gun before you leave the store. A written, signed description of services provided would be a good idea too. Also in question is his cash only policy. Why? This is 2015, why not get with the program the rest of the world uses? I guess it makes it a little easier to skate on the taxes paid to the city, county and state. With my experience at Neals gun shop it is my personal recommendation that at all costs you avoid rendering your time or firearms to the mediocre service you will receive here! read more
