After having cataract surgery, I had light adjustment done by Dr. Neal. Within a few months I developed double vision. Dr. Neal referred me to Dr. McConnell (who it turned out is his wife), who specializes in treating double vision. She prescribed lenses with prisms. Unfortunately, the glasses didn't correct the problem as she had measured incorrectly. She ordered a second pair. When I used the glasses for distant vision, I found I still had double vision. I then went back to the physician who had done my cataract surgery. Shockingly, he said the glasses I had gotten did not have any prisms. Today, I returned with my husband to Dr. McConnell for an explanation. She maintained the glasses did in fact have prisms and suggested most opticians and even doctors can't tell if glasses have prisms but she, of course, could. I expressed my displeasure and distrust as she seemed to be more concerned about defending herself than about my poor treatment outcome. She offered to refund my money and refer me to someone else and rushed out of the examining room. Subsequently, an assistant led us to the front desk and said she would give us a refund of $270. My husband said we would accept the refund but wanted to keep the glasses as we were skeptical about the explanation about the glasses having prisms when my doctor said they didn't have prisms. While the assistant went to get direction, my husband retrieved the glasses. The assistant returned and demanded we give up the glasses. My husband told her we were keeping the glasses and it was their choice whether or not to give us the refund. What ensued was some loud back and forth about us wanting to keep the glasses. Dr. Neal joined this and did nothing to resolve the matter and adamantly requested we give up the glasses and suggested we wanted to get the glasses for free. So we went back and forth some more. When asked why he wanted the glasses more than he wanted to provide good customer service, he said they would send them back to the company for a refund. That seemed ridiculous since it suggested the glasses were in fact defective. As we were leaving my husband pointed out the office was not ADA compliant since there is a step up but no ramp. They yelled back that they have a ramp. Dr. Neal came over and held up a suitcase-like folded up ramp. In the numerous times I came to the office, struggling with my walker, never once did anyone offer the use of the ramp. Dr. Neal's retort was 'you never asked.' That sums up the poor quality of my treatment. read more

Dr. Neal & staff are professional, courteous, , friendly, & proficient in their fields. Greeted pleasantly upon arrival. Minimal time spent in waiting room. Sidney was especially efficient & kind doing eye chart reading, prior to seeing the doctor. Dr. Neal is excellent at his profession & provides for a lighthearted, comforting visit. I had cataract surgery & was referred to Dr. Neal for follow-up UV light treatments for my Light Adjustable Lenses. Neal Eye is a fantastic eye doctor office! I can't recommend them enough. I called because my daughter woke up with a eye almost swollen shut! I called and they were closed and Dr Neal was leaving for his vacation. His awesome staff asked me to hold and said can u get here in 20 min we can se her! NOBODY does that kind of stuff anymore. But they did and didn't rush her through. Dr Neal spent time to try and figure out what could have caused her eye to swell up like it did. I love supporting local businesses and that's why, when I restarted by eye insurance, I went back to the same place as last time. I told them I had been there before but they couldn't find my records. I had my old script, which so no big deal. I got to my appointment on time, but entering it's not obvious where to go. Walk past the first two desks to the third desk to check in. I stood there awkwardly for a min before anyone says hello or acknowledged me. Strange. Check in and sign a dry erase that tells you what your rights are, then have a seat and wait. The employee finally took me but didn't greet me with a smile, acknowledge me, introduce themselves, give an explanation of what they were going to do, tell me an expectation of duration, or thank me. In the medical and customer service field AIDET is very important: (http://www.somc.org/employee/assets/employment/AIDET-Guide.pdf) This is widely known as a fundimental part of providing quality care. I then had to sit at the machine where you look into it and there's a balloon or a road. I could see that there were no more paper strips to rest my forehead on and I wondered when it was last cleaned. It had grease like marks from maybe a previous patients? Next another employee joined us, she didn't introduce herself either. It was later evident that this employee was a trainee. I do not have a problem with students, I'll be the guinea pig. But, I specifically remember both employees didn't introduce themselves. The next machine was a horrible terror of a test, nobody explained what was going to happen ahead of time I was scared out of my wits that I was going to lose my vision the whole time. At this point they had my glasses off and they had to type my name into the computer, but couldn't spell it properly because they didn't have my chart close. There was a crumb, like an eye crumb, on the machine right where you put your eye. I had a feeling the machines weren't clean, but I didn't know for sure. When I pulled my eye away after the first unsuccessful attempt the crumb was gone. Gross! My suspicions were correct. Then the worst part, the machine unexpectedly shined the brightest green laser to scanned my eye. It was horrible and scared me so much. That was a terrifying experience. The last test I did in that area was to test my depth perception. They held out the book so the glare from the lights overhead shined right at me so I couldn't read it at first. Next I was brought into the exam room and the two trainer and trainee did the standard eye exam on me. I have worked in an eye doctor's office before, so I know how to administer these tests. I read the lowest line with my left eye, then right, then fine print, with left, then right. But more than once the letters didn't change or the card was upside down, so I either had the four letters memorized or technically unable to read. I don't feel it was an accurate exam, but I only cared about the values for a new script so I can get better glasses. Next I was left to wait for the doctor with the pictures they'd taken with the green laser either floating on the screen next to me. The doctor was very personable and we even found some commonalities with each other. His eye exam was thorough and he even went back to confirm some measurements. I feel like his exam was top notch. He explained everything and the microscope touching my eye part that always freaks me out was done quickly and efficiently. He hit me with the dilating drops and had me go look at glasses after talking a few more minutes. I was led out to look at frames and was told by the frames person that depending on my insurance I may be charged $40-$80. I KNOW I have A+ eye insurance, so this was shocking. In the time it took her to pull up my coverage I had pulled it up on my phone screen and screen capped it. Why didn't they pull this up while I was in my exam??? No mens section, only unisex frames and they couldn't tell me prices. The receptionist came over and told me these might be free while handing me 3-4 pairs at once, some with purple (obv not mens) on them, others with designs I had previously rejected (no logos on the side.) By that time the drops were working and I truly couldn't see. I finally said I'll come back another day and finished my eye exam and left. I left with my script, but I had to ask for it. The printers were broken, that day. I found frames I love at target on Chemical road. All in all I'm voting with my feet not to go back to that office. The doctor was very friendly and was willing to spend any length of time with me to get me a thorough exam. The office staff conducted themselves poorly and the practice was not clean. read more

Dr. Brett Neal does a fantastic job at making his patients feel welcomed at his clinic. He takes the time to listen to the patient and is highly customer oriented. Dr. Neal is knowledgeable and high competent in assessing the health of one's eye and I am very confident of his expertise in diagnosing any possible issues with the eye. Dr. Neal also went out of his way to locate a pair of frames which was not available in his store and this is a +++ in the world of customer service! Also the one thing I appreciate about Conshohocken Eye Associates is that this location is very PROMPT with their service. I brought my son here for a eye exam. He has Down Syndrome and I had taken him to America's Best and was there for 2 hours and did not get a good exam. Not that they didn't try, but they don't have the equipment. He was not able to respond to the tracking test, etc. Dr. Neal was wonderful and gave him a thorough exam. I was very happy with the experience and so was my son. The staff was friendly and helpful. He picked out frames and has been wearing them daily. We will be going back. read more

I had the worst experience ever! It was my first and last for them. It was the first time I had experienced age discrimination and it was a horrible experience. Professionals in this capacity need to be a lot more sensitive when dealing with persons of any age. I am a health care professional and know from yearly training and working with patients that this can be a sensitive area especially for women or those who do not look or feel advanced in age. The doctor referred to my "advanced age" 4 times during the visit. I felt humiliated and poorly treated as a new client. The rest of the staff were no different. One attempted to overcharge me and another was instructed to take "pictures" of my eyes, yet gave poor instructions as to how it was to be performed. Making me feel awkward and extremely uncomfortable. I will not be going back and would not recommend friends or family either. read more

Great local eye doctor. I was looking for a new eye doctor and wanted to try one closer to home. The shop is clean and I was warmly greeted. I waited less than 2 minutes before being taken back for tests. Modern equipment, the technician wiped down the machines before and after eye tests. Dr. Neal was very nice, efficient, and we talked about Penn State football between my tests. He gave me 2 packs of contacts to try out before ordering. The office followed up, without pestering me, and calculated my out-of-pocket costs with me before I placed my order. They care about their customers and treat them like their friends/family. There are also great deals/discounts every time I come there. You can get your glasses cleaned and tightened for free.
