Nazo's had so many varieties of very healthy looking trees- most in full bloom which smelled amazing, and many with fruit already. It is tucked away a bit, but worth the search. We had a terrible experience working with Nazo Landscaping on the repairs to our slate entryway. First of all, Nazo workers used the wrong color of filler between the joints of the slate using a white rather than a matching grey color (see photo). They also installed it incorrectly against manufacturer's recommendations so that after 9 months the filler started to deteriorate (see photo). We called the owner several times about our concerns and after several weeks he reluctantly came to view the damage. During that visit, he kept saying that "this is not my problem" (he blamed the manufacturer) even though our research indicated that it was not installed correctly. He would not agree to fix the deteriorating walkway or give us a refund so that we could pursue other options to fix the various issues. We cannot recommend this company for future landscaping or hardscaping projects due to the decline in the quality of their work. read more

We had a surprisingly poor experience with Phillip Nazo in spring 2022 when his plants failed. He installed them in fall 2021 and before we wrote him a large check he verbally assured us he would "take care of us" if any plants did not thrive because we hired him to plant them properly. However, upon the plants' demise, he pointed to a contractual clause absolving him of such responsibilities. His crew installed numerous layers of pond liner (thick plastic) and filled it with 100% compost. No soil, dirt, or clay needed. We purchased: 1 Crippsii cypress tree (sparse but still living in 2024) 2 DeGroots spire evergreen trees (died) 4 Oak leaf hydrangeas (died) 8 Gardenias (died) The Oak leaf hydrangeas died within 10 days and we sent him photos. He assured us this was normal and to not water them until spring. We followed his instructions and they never came back. The gardenias and two evergreen spires seemed okay for a while but were dead by summer. We shared photos with Phillip as the plants were dying and he assured us everything would be fine and to give them time. When it was clear 14 out of 15 of his plantings were DEAD dead he pivoted and told us it was our fault because we did not water them. We were completely shocked by this stance as the pond liner didn't even allow drainage so the soil stayed wet the entire winter and beyond. We have been told it is much more likely they died from lack of drainage. We recently had landscapers remove the liner and the compost drains like one would expect. Too bad it cost us thousands of dollars and much frustration dealing with someone so unprofessional. Two stars instead of one because the stones he installed did not fail like the plants. read more

I have found this company to be unreliable. I wanted to follow up and some dead landscaping and they never called me back.

We purchased 2 x 3 foot stone flags--gorgeous. So good to have tawny color available instead of just gray flagstone b/c it complements the natural stone wall much better. Also a Tuscarora crepe myrtle and a fantastic Twombly Maple. So many remarks from neighbors! It's lovely. The prices were not cheap, but for the size the price was better than what we paid for a Muskogee Crepe at SiteOne. The quality was equivalent. Nazo is oriented more toward people who know what they want: plant, size, cultivar. It's soup to nuts; he's an in-ground grower, does ball-and-burlap, and maintains an extensive over-wintered selection in containers of shrubs and trees. While he's open for retail sales, it's best to do your homework first. This operation is not primarily oriented to retail sales, from my observation. As other reviewers have noted, once they know you're serious, they put a LOT of time into helping you find exactly what you want. Philip's son drove us all over and was very patient while we made selections, staying out of our way. read more

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Nazo Landscaping. Philip is gruff and not inclined to take any suggestions or input without an argument or criticism, which made the entire interaction very unpleasant. I always felt rushed. I also have to say that he was reluctant to give me actual names of reference people to speak with, brushing me off. He also gave me no choice of specimens. His delivered stock in some areas was mediocre at best. The tea rose he delivered and planted is thin and not well developed. The azaleas are not robust in any way either. His design sense in my case was also not good. When I first saw his nursery stock, I chose some unusual oriental evergreens. He did not have any ideas about where to put them, which was disappointing, because I was relying on him for that. There is a large evergreen tree that he planted irrespective of the fact that it will grow big enough to obscure a fair amount of the front of the house. Again, no advice. I fear that some of what I received will not do well, and that I wasted money. I'm hoping to help others avoid this. I wish I didn't have to be so negative! I am definitely one to give credit where it is due. read more

This is the only place we will purchase compost and mulch. The quality of Phillip's products is second to none. The staff are helpful and friendly. We were thrilled to purchase a large concord grape vine from Nazo's; it is now my sister's most prized plant. Stone will be our next project and we will certainly go back to Nazo's Landscaping. read more

We had extremely bad experience with Nazo this spring. I wish I have read all those reviews before we made the purchase. We ordered 1 apricot tree, 1 persimmon tree, 21 pink muhly grass, totally $465. Philip rushed us to take all plants home on April . He did not allow us to pick any plants . The apricot tree he gave to us was very thin (the size did not match the price for $125. ). During we planted the apricot tree, we found out the root has not well developed yet. At meantime, those 21 pink muhly grass did not look well neither. We took a picture for the apricot tree immediately to show Philip, he blamed that must because we overwatered the tree. My husband pointed out that we had a beautiful yard, we have successfully planted multiple fruit trees and all kinds of flower. We absolutely know how to take care of the plants. We worried about this apricot tree because it did not developed good root. Philip refused to take any complaints ,he started argument and belittled my husband. We decided to give the tree 2 weeks to grow. 2 weeks later, the apricot tree died . Pink muhly grasses sparse but look alive, persimmon tree looks alive. We went back to Nazo to see if we can get replacement for the apricot tree. Nazo refused any negotiation. No guarantee, No return , No refund. Their attitude is extremely rude . One gorgeous weekend, my husband I got the bright idea to start an orchard in our backyard. As with many of our home improvement projects, we decided to skip the planning part and impulsively dive in by buying a bunch of trees. We arrived at Nazo (after missing a turn--you can't really get there by accident) and marveled at the size of the place. Philip was working by himself that day and asked us to wait by the office as he finished up helping another customer. About 20 minutes later, he was finally free to help us. I had heard that he is brusque--and he is, but I think our willingness to wait made him realize that we were serious and he was happy to drive us all over the property looking for the best trees for our budding orchard. He took us to the peaches, plums, persimmons, pomegranates, and other trees that don't start with 'p' like figs, loquats, lemons, limes, and oranges, and helped us select the best species and specimens for our goals, yard, taste buds, and budget. The trees at Nazo are pricey, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a selection that is as established or with as much fruit already on them for those prices. When we're ready to add another row to our orchard, we'll definitely head to Nazo. read more

Very good experience. I've been to Nazo a couple of times, once to purchase a couple of Banana leaf trees which can be challenging to find in this climate. The 2nd time I had dirt and about 20 different plants/shurbs/trees delivered for my landscaping project. The price was reasonable, communication was good by email and phone, and everything arrived on time. Keep in mind this is not like going to Lowes or Home Depot - you can't really just wander around trying to find what you need, and everything isn't individually priced. You have to go with a bit more of plan for what you need, and ask specifically for those items. Quality and prices tend to be better. Their website is also a good way to shop for what you need too. read more

We had such a positive experience with Nazo Landscaping. My wife and I went over the weekend to see the tremendous assortment of options. Once we made our decision, we called and placed an order. The process was incredibly easy and streamlined. We were offered a same day delivery for our supplies and the team arrived within an hour of our order. The team carefully unloaded the supplies onto our driveway including a piece by piece unloading of the flagstone we had purchased (previously our experience with other places is that the supplies get dumped from the truck onto the driveway). Don't believe what is in the website re: hours of operation. Phil decides on a whim usually, when he'll be open or closed, & it's never consistent. Even if you talk to him over the phone, it's different day to day, week to week. Very unreliable place. Do not recommend unless you are desperate on a Sunday to find mulch, & even then hours are limited apparently to like 11a-12noon only. So not worth the drive over. read more

Being new to NC, I had reached out to a number of landscapers and yard people to get my front yard and some privacy trees set up. Most places wanted to charge me a couple hundred dollars for design fees and such. I explained to Philip over the phone what I needed and my budget. He was great, had me come by his place and we got everything designed and laid out in 30 minutes. He is no nonsense type of person and I really appreciated that. I got a contract within a couple of days and install was fantastic. Philip came by with his workers, laid everything out for my approval. I gave the ok, went to work and came home to a beautiful new front yard and gorgeous trees to give some privacy between my neighbors. He ensures that the plants are going to be successful by planting with plenty of additional soil and mulch. I am very pleased with the whole process, very easy and straightforward. Philip was super helpful and accommodating to my budget. I changed some things at the end and he was super flexible and very easy to work with. He even got rid of some fire ants for me! Hired on 5/17 at 9am for Landscape work. Philip Nazo/Owner and 2 Spanish speaking workers SHOWED UP AT 11AM. I gave them a walk through property telling them what I wanted done and we were all on same page. Owner left and employees started working. 5 hours later employees notify me that they cut my phone lines and also cut a plastic fencing cat enclosure on the other side of the property which they weedwacked the heck out of (even though at no time whatsoever did I tell them to touch the fence..it was NEVER part of the job). I informed the owner that I was going to hire fence company to fix the damage and he was firm that he wanted his boys to do it. When I refused, he said he was packing up and leaving the property. His final words to me were that he'd charge me $60 per hour for two men for the 5 hours he was on the property and would refund me the remains of my deposit. I agreed. 4 days later I got the an invoice WITH NO REFUND. He itemized work which he had not even done (because it was a 2 day job) and created a bogus $240 restocking fee indicating that it took him 2 hours to restock (10) one gallon confederate jasmine and (1) 10 gallon Japanese Maple tree. In addition (see photo), he weed-wacked my ivy fence so badly that theres 2 feet of ivy missing off the end of the fence. In total, I lost $345. His invoice itemizes charges which don't even add up and 1/2 of the work wasn't even done (because it was a 2 day job)! The invoice says it all. $825 for 5 hours and 2 men working. No remorse for the damage he did to cat fencing, he padded the invoice, and added a bogus $240 restocking fee so he could keep the deposit. read more
