It was a Sunday early afternoon when they just opened. Hubby needed to find a suit jacket. They had a good inventory of suits and also a good sale going on for Ralph Lauren and Kenneth Cole. He opted for a black Ralph Lauren suit jacket 50% off. My 10 year old found some Michael Jordan sweatshirts for 25% so we purchased a couple. When we went to the register to pay, it was not showing up the 50% discount for the suit jacket so the very nice lady went to check downstairs. Sure enough, it was showing only a $.05 discount. They were very apologetic about this. Collectively, they all went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied with everything.

I hadn't been to Kohl's in a couple years and found it pretty much unchanged. Parking is never an issue as it has a huge private lot with plenty of space. The lot appeared to be properly maintained and free of debris, there were no stray shopping carts in the lot and the walk into the store was clear. Kohl's is a spacious department store with wide aisles. Navigating the store is nice and easy, products are presented in an organized manner and there are plenty of nice merchandise displays. On my recent visit I really appreciated the staffing level, it was easy to find an employee to ask a question and checkout lines were very reasonable. Staff was very friendly, helpful and efficient despite the pressures of dealing with the holiday shopping crowds. On this visit I was mostly shopping for some clothing and accessories for my wife and found a huge selection of great quality products at very reasonable prices. As usual, there were plenty of great value promotions and Kohl's seems to always have coupons available. I managed to find a couple of shirts for myself as well and appreciated the comfortable dressing rooms to try them on. A pleasant bonus is the comfortable seating area outside the dressing room so if you are waiting on someone trying on some clothes you have a nice place to sit. Should you find yourself in need of a restroom fear not because the restrooms here are always clean and properly stocked with supplies. I am not a frequent shopper at traditional department stores but Kohl's seems to be better than most and I enjoy just browsing the store. I always find it clean and organized with friendly and helpful employees.

I needed a King deep pockets to fit over a topper. A staff person did assist at my request. I found a 400 thread count original price $250 for 50% off. However I needed in white, the last one left was cream. I discussed the swap of colors at checkout and confirmed they could mail the white sheets directly to my home at no charge. This was huge because the store is 45 minutes away from me. Unfortunately the clerk was extremely slow, possibly does not do this often. She was very cautious to ensure accuracy. So I'm mixed. I got the sheets within three business days and the quality was excellent! After a wash and putting them on I was extremely satisfied at the bargain price. If you can afford an upgrade on thread count you will not be disappointed. It's like sleeping in a luxury hotel. I would return, but it's far and the deals do apply online with often free shipping specials to your home. Belk's is known for having great deals and I do like the department store 3.5 rounding down with checkout being slow.

Common space was a mix of open and shaded area, mostly clean and well maintained. There were a good number of shops, but most of them were smaller in size and were carrying lesser number of products. While exploring the outlet, I walked into few stores but didn't find anything worth buying. The sales tax rate was also very high 12%. The food court was little sad. There were few different shops but most were abysmal. The dining hall was also underwhelming with old chair and tables. Overall I wasn't very impressed with the experience, and was one of the least exciting outlet mall I had visited.

I found myself driving by Chesapeake Crossing Shopping Center and remembered that I needed a couple extension cords and some power strips so I pulled off of South Military Highway into the shopping center's incredibly huge and mostly empty parking lot and parked in front of Big Lots. Upon entering the store I was greeted by an employee at the cash register. It had been a while since my last visit so I quickly noticed that the store had been remodelled and the layout was completely different from what I remembered. Almost everyone is familiar with Big Lots. With over 1400 stores in 47 states, the Columbus, Ohio based company is the largest broadline closeout retailer in the United States. They sell a wide variety of items from furniture and bedding to housewares, hardware, pet supplies, clothing and accessories, toys and gifts, electronics, seasonal items, outdoor items and more. They even have a small grocery section. I wandered around the store a bit to familiarize myself with the new layout. I found it clean, neat and well organized. Aisles are spacious allowing easy navigation and enough room for two people with shopping carts to pass by each other in the same aisle. I easily located the items I needed and went to the checkout. Checkout was quick and easy, employees were pleasant and efficient. I m happy to have this Big Lots store near my home because I love saving money and this place is an excellent place to do that.

At least by us abandoning the plan to make a purchase, the folks remaining in line were one person closer to getting out of there. This place needs an adult to supervise the behavior of these shameful employees.

The rumor is the newly reclaimed space will be filled by modern stores like Dicks Sporting and Goods, Home Goods, etc. with a more open space between the stores atmosphere. The locals are looking forward to it. Hampton Roads Mall are modernizing for a more modern shopping experience. Yay, glad Chesapeake Square Mall is getting a new look and more desirable stores and shops.

It was reopened following a ceremony to thank the community for their support, and to honor the victims and survivors. I did not take any pictures. I will say, it was completely redone the best way it could. There are a lot more self checkouts. They seemed to have a better and greater selection of clothes for the whole family. Their food section was great to be honest. They had a good amount of organics. However, they were out of some fresh herbs that I needed. I was in the makeup section and needed some items in the glass case. I alerted an employer and within minutes had someone there to open it for me. Checkout was pretty easy to operate. I had a question and an employee was nice enough to help. If I had to come back here again I probably wouldn't hesitate if in the area. I still prefer my neighborhood "Grassfield Walmart" above all.
