I chose Firehouse Movers because of their glowing Google reviews, and their initial estimate was very competitive. Unfortunately, the final bill was a complete shock. To begin with, they insisted on a virtual estimate and refused to come out in person and assess the job. This was a 5000 sq ft home full of furniture, and I wanted the most accurate estimate possible. I asked multiple times for an in-person estimate, but my requests were declined. By moving day, I had sold two-bedroom sets and several other large pieces of furniture that were included in the original estimate. Even with significantly fewer items to move, the final price was more than double the original estimate. On the day of the move, I somehow went from needing two trucks, as stated in the estimate, to four. And from 9 to 17 total man hours. At the end of a long day, my husband just wanted them gone, so he reluctantly paid the bill before they could log anymore hours. When I called to discuss the bill, Firehouse claimed I had verbally approved the additional associated costs over the phone, citing a recording, which was completely false. I have asked multiple times for this recording, but I have not received it. That was not a small miscalculation. Our move was grossly underestimated. This whole experience felt misleading and dishonest. Stay away.

She took the story of one group of individuals and didn't even ask me my side or to get the facts of the situation. This business needs to outline their terms better if spots are not able to be reserved (which is standard by the way or companies clearly state in terms that they don't honor them). I said I was there at 2am and waited for a bit in line but ultimately had to leave for a bit to then return only to be yelled at by the owner and told I don't have to shop the sale if I don't like it. The owner refused to even hear my side at all and decided to listen to a group of individuals side instead. Typically if there is an issue, the patrons shopping can handle it amongst themselves without the company involvement, especially if in the terms it doesn't specify that spots can't be reserved. I also stated that I was going to text, but due to the hour I was there in line, I didn't want to send it because of how late it was. Again owner didn't actually listen to me or attempt to get my side before joining the mob against me. Poor customer service, I don't need to use the actual service to know that. Part of your job is hosting a sale effectively and showing customer service because ultimately we are also customers buying the items you place out. The owner is extremely unprofessional. Maybe you should update your terms correctly and ensure their are no gaps in it. I clearly stated I never save spots and am one to sit outside for hours but my circumstances for that day didn't allow me to do so. Saving spots is a standard thing that happens amongst people who attend sales so if you won't honor it, make sure you're clear in the terms you put out there

The ONLY reason why I didn't choose a less EXPENSIVE moving company or just snag some TaskRabbit movers was BECAUSE I was told I did NOT have to tip BECAUSE the drivers earn a bonus ON MY GREAT REVIEW. So when the movers came I had bought them some bottles of water each and had a $20 bill for each for an extra lunch tip. I had NO IDEA they worked for tips until later. I was SO ASHAMED that NONE of the $990 cost for 4 mile move was NOT being shared directly with them. I thought the bonus was the sign of a great company caring for their people. It was a blatant lie. At this point they have cheated my pocketbook or the movers with this deception. How many times have these excellent workers not been given better tips because we were told we didn't have to?! When I raised concerns about my TV being damaged during the move, I felt dismissed immediately instead of heard as a paying, repeat customer. My interaction with Patrick S. Dobson, the Vice President, was extremely unprofessional. After I responded once to explain my concerns, his reply included "this is not worth arguing over," despite the fact that there was no back-and-forth argument happening. I was simply trying to explain my perspective regarding the damage claim. The tone of the response came across as rude, defensive, and dismissive rather than customer-focused. I also do not believe the company properly handled the damage investigation. Photos were presented as if the damage was pre-existing, but the TV had no prior damage before the movers entered my home. If any issue had truly existed beforehand, it should have been clearly pointed out to me at the time. As someone who works with customers, professionalism and communication matter just as much as the service itself. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unheard and disrespected, and because of that, I will not be using this company again.
