I ordered the chicken and cheese tamales. This review is for the chicken tamale. The masa to chicken ratio is good. It has a green chile sauce inside which made it a little spicy. It was moist and not dry. I think I found another go to spot for chicken tamales. It was $3.25 per tamale or $35 per dozen. I also got the guava/cheese and pineapple/cheese pastry. The cheese rolls are my favorite. So big, flaky, and tasty. For a buck each, it's a steal. Still lots of stuff even if you come late. You can see it as both good and bad. Good: still lots of items to choose from even at late hour. Bad: makes you think how long they've been sitting on the shelf. These people are so Rude!!!! I call to ask a few question's about a cake order and the lady snapped at me. She then told me we only do cake orders online or by phone. I said I was not calling to order a cake I just wanted some information. With so many bakeries around you think they would be less rude... Sadly I have to give them a 1 star. I tried to give them a few chances because I have bought many tamales from them but unfortunately their tamales have been on the decline they have been coming out dry. This time I bought 1 dozen for Christmas gathering, thinking things might change because they have to be fresh...right?....No! The cheese tamales were hard and the cheese did not melt and was very chewy. My family did not finish them, the red ones were okay, there were some green ones that were dry and crumbly as well. I had one family member hit the cheese tamale saying "look it's so hard, you want me to eat this" I was embarrassed. I took two bites from my plate and immediately threw it away it was DRY! Came by in the afternoon on a Tuesday and it was empty! This place is so underrated and deserves more hype. Upon entering, you can already see the nicely organized bread and all the other goodies. I stumbled in this place while looking to crave my tamales cravings and it definitely satisfied it and more! They only had the pork and cheese available when I went so I would recommend going earlier or towards the beginning of the week to try their chicken one. I got their pork tamale with red sauce and it was delicious! The portions are pretty tiny but it definitely fills you up. Visited twice and both times there was a fly inside the case, I mentioned it to the employee and she just says oh thank you and just went about her way. All the employees look so unhappy. Would have purchased the pastries but after seeing the fly inside the case it was very unappealing. We grabbed sorted box of bread the one bread we liked the most was the cream cheese muffin.

I used to come here all the time in 2020 and would rave about their guava cheese pastries. At that time, i would say they were better than portos! However, it's been downhill for years. I've come back on multiple occasions and I think they changed their filling ratio and or recipe and now it's just not as good. Also, I really want to try their tamales but I've seen mixed reviews on yelp. I do like how they are opened early. read more

I enjoyed the champurrado as it was raining and it was well prepared. I placed an order of 100 mini conchas . Every one at the funeral wanted to know where I got them from because they really enjoyed the texture and flavor. Staff is helpful and items are reasonably priced. I no longer live in the area but on a recent visit we decided to stop and pick up something for dessert. It was late and close to closing but the young ladies were friendly and helpful. I had heard good things about this place and was excited to finally try it out. Everything looked tempting and it was hard to decide. We each picked three items. My husband picked two empanadas and the guava and cheese turn over. I picked a concha, raspberry swirl pastry, and pan de muerto. So far we've had everything except the concha and one of the empanadas. Everything has been excellent so far. The bread has been surprisingly soft and buttery, especially the pan de muerto. It's so spongy like a marshmallow but not overly sweet. Perfect for a good cup of coffee. The guava and cheese pastry tasted really fresh. The guava tasted like guava and not guava jam like I've had at other bakeries. I'm sad that I only have one pastry left to try. We walked in and there was one older lady ahead of us being helped, which was perfect giving us some time to look at our choices, but we were looking there was a huge FLY inside the glass counter with the bread closest to register, immediately my partner and I were turned off because as we waited we watched the fly touch a bunch of the breads on display, ugh GROSS and unsanitary! We decided to not get anything for obvious reasons and we said no thank you. As soon as we start walking out one of the girls threw in a very attitude condescending attitude "Thank you", I wasn't gonna say anything because there was another customer inside but with that attitude fine we'll let you know why were walking out! I know most people compare this to Porto's, but honestly it's different mainly because the texture of their fruit and cheese rolls. This has a softer more chewier crust and Porto's has a more flaky and crispy crust. Whenever I have a potluck this is my go to place to grab something for the parties. I get the traditional guava cheese rolls, pineapple rolls, and their unique coconut roll. I do love these fruit pastries. There's also a couple of items I also get here. I love their cheesecake flan. It pairs well with dark coffee. Next, the buttered and sugar pan Dulce. Dude it's so good. They also sell tamales, but not my favorite here. Help a mom and pop store out. Was looking for flan and yelp suggested this place. When I got there, was so excited to see all of their selection. They had white besos, and refugiados, and much more. We got one whole flan, a slice of the cheesecake flan, beso, refugiado (guayaba y queso), strudel de piña and two cake pops. We brought them home and everyone loved them. 3.5 Star Great family operated bakery. It's definitely a hidden gem in SGV. I never heard of this place until SGV Eats in Facebook kept raving about this place. I was overwhelmed when I first went, there are varieties of pastries in the display ranges from cakes, cookies and pastries. I tried their guava cheese roll but it was a little too sweet and dry. I did enjoy their tres leches though, it was moist, buttery and sweet. My hubby also love their flan cake. They also have savory items like tamales or stew. Navi's is a small mom and pop bakery located in South San Gabriel. Very easy to miss if you're driving down Garvey and not paying attention to the stores. They offer a variety of baked goods that are baked fresh without costing too much! Decided to drop by after work on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of baked goods still on the shelves. There were a ton of small cakes, cake slices, macarons, cake pops, cupcakes, cookies, donuts, guava rolls and a whole lot more. The only unfortunate thing is that there were no labeled prices - you order like you would at Porto's, just by pointing or listing what you'd like and how many. So I basically had to ask what several items were, the prices, etc. before I decided what I wanted. Tried their smaller fruit tart and thought it was pretty good. Not too sweet and the fruits had that glaze on top to give it an extra shine. Probably wouldn't get this again, but it was good to try. Also grabbed a palmier type cookie and a cinnamon crisp chip/cookie thing. The palmier/elephant's ear was fairly sweet - the crumble on the "ear's" were very fragile and broke into crumbs, but as I got to the center, there was more bite. I enjoyed the cinnamon crisp more because it was chewy and sweet - more to my liking and flavor profile. And grabbed a sprinkle cookie as well - definitely reminded me of my childhood. Worker who helped me was quick and efficient. The total came out to be a lot less than I expected. Finding hidden gems like Navi's Bakery quite literally feels like hitting the jackpot. When I share with my friends about their Guava Cheese Rolls, the first question that comes up every time is, "how does it compare to Porto's??" Their Guava Cheese Rolls are bigger, cheaper, BETTER, and get this, no long wait time! They also have mango cheese rolls, which sounded weird to me at first but seriously so good with the jammy mango filling and flaky pastry. I've also ordered their Cheesecake Flan cake. Yup, you heard that right. Fluffy cheesecake on the top and a creamy and smooth flan on the bottom. And topped with fresh berries! An 8" cake for ~$15. It doesn't get any better. The staff is very helpful and get your order ready to go in a jiffy! I bought the pork and cheese tamales. The cheese tamales were oozing with cheese with a little bit of spice (very slight) and the masa was moist and delicious. This one is my fav! The pork tamales were also packed with a lot of flavor and flavorful pork. Very tasty!! I treated myself to a bottle of mexican coke. Refreshing! A hidden gem in SGV! I love coming here for their cheese rolls and guava cheese rolls - they're bigger than Porto's and just as delicious! The cheese rolls are coated in sugar and have a nice crisp. It's my favorite item here and seriously x2 the size of the ones at Porto's. Both the cheese rolls and guava cheese rolls are $1 each. I also ordered the Menudo filled with hominy and tripe ($8). I appreciate that they leave the seasoning up to each patron to adjust. They do not skimp out on the ingredients either and the tripe is soo tender. They include limes, salt and pepper, oregano, and chiles on the side as well. This is a must-get for me when I return! I've tried their Tres Leches Cake and pork and chicken tamales on a separate occasion and loved them as well. The Tres leches cakes are in the refrigerator for you to grab. They're each individually packaged slices with milk soaking on the bottom. The perfect size for one and what a steal at $3 a slice! Their tamales have the perfect amount of filling and are not dry at all (which is always a hit or miss for me). They are $1.75 each and are a bit cheaper if you buy them in bulk (12 for $20). I love that I no longer have to drive to Glendale for Porto's and that there is such an delicious and fresh bakery in SGV. The workers here are efficient and get you in and out quickly. Both times I came on a Saturday morning and there were only 2-3 people in line ahead of me. The parking lot is fairly small so you may need to find street parking. read more

How has this place been open for almost 3 years, but I only found out about it recently?! I've always been making the drive to Porto's to satisfy my cravings for cheese rolls and gauva cheese strudels. Now that I know about this little shop, NaVis Bakery can do the job and is way closer to me. The cheese rolls here are honestly way better than the ones from Porto's because they're coated with sugar, have more cheese filling, and have a nicer crisp, making them super delicious. As for the guava cheese strudels, these are hard to compare to the strudels from Porto's. NaVis Bakery's strudels are heavier and packed with more filling, while Porto's has lighter and fluffier strudels. I enjoy them both and think it's a matter of personal preference. I love that there are different flavors of the cheese strudels. I also tried the mango flavor and it was yummy. I wanted to order more flavors, but there were none on the display and the employee didn't have good English and coudln't understand me when I asked what they had. I am thrilled to have found this little bakery and will be going back for more. The pastries are inexpensive and delectable. Eat them while they are warm and fresh for the best experience!
