Bierstadel - Cute German pub

Come early if you want to park in their parking lot since there are only 4 parking spots in the…read morefront. This place filled up fast! This was my first real German meal here and I gotta say it wasn't easy simply because nobody spoke English to us. After looking confused at the menu, the waitress brought me an English menu. Phew!!! I started off with the pancake soup. This was a good salty broth with lots of green onions and egg like pancake strips. The Asian in me desperately wanted a bowl of rice to mix into the soup! Only 3 euros and well worth it on a cold day. Bierstadels home made pan: two large pieces of thick pork seared perfectly! A cream mushroom sauce bathed in it. A large side of homemade spatzle (noodles) accompanied it. All in all, it was a good hearty dish but there was a strong, horseradish like flavor that I didn't like. Maybe other locals like this flavor but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I must say the pork was cooked perfectly! The Special: a softball size pork that seemed to be cooked in beer. Cooked to perfection! Again, beer in my pork is not my cup of tea, but my husband enjoyed it immensely. My kids chicken wings were super TASTY but there were only three wings :(. My daughters schnitzel was a good, large size with a great crunch but the middle was a bit soggy. Both came with great fries, slice of watermelon and my kids' fave, a lollipop! There's no ordinary water here, only sparking water with a small slice of lemon. There's a Biergarten outside so of course, a huge array of beer. There's no way to finish the meal on my plate, so they happily boxed up my meal. For us, service was ok... But I think the language barrier was the main reason for it. For all the other patrons who spoke German, it seemed like everyone was an old friend. They were however cordial and friendly. All in all... It was a 3.5 star experience but I'm feeling generous today. Their large portions definitely pushes it to 4 star range.

Nice little Irish pub in the middle of Vaihingen! We went on a Sunday for breakfast. Bonus we can…read moreget Sunday breakfast -- if you live in Germany, you know! People were fantastic and the food even better! Couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. The portions are not shy either! I dig the ambiance there and it's fitting that I write this review as I'm sitting in the airport awaiting my flight to Dublin so we'll have to see how similar the Irish breakfast is there! Prices were high and parking is limited except for a garage down the street hence the minus 1 star but it's 5 star food and staff!

A True Irish Treasure - More Than Just a Pub!…read more Walking into this Irish pub feels like stepping through a hidden doorway straight into the heart of Ireland. From the moment you enter, you're greeted with the warmth of a bygone era--cozy wood finishes, the sound of laughter, and the unmistakable charm of a place that's more than just food and drink...it's a living story. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every single dish on the menu is 5-star quality--crafted with care, full of rich flavor, and served piping hot. Whether you're indulging in an oversized plate of fish & chips or a perfectly poured pint, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything less than perfect. There's truly something for every palate, including an impressive drink selection. But what really sets this place apart is the staff--genuine, friendly, and welcoming in a way that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. And then there's Noel--the heart and soul of the pub. An Irishman through and through, Noel shares tales of the old country with such humor and heart, you'll find yourself hanging on every word. Ask him about his memories of Ireland and you'll be taken on a storytelling journey with a pint in hand and a smile on your face. Best part? He'll remember your name like an old friend. And don't miss Sunday brunch--live traditional Irish music fills the room while you enjoy the best brunch around. It's a full-sensory trip to Ireland without ever leaving your seat. This isn't just a pub--it's a portal. If you're lucky enough to visit, ask for Noel, grab a Guinness, and stay awhile. You won't want to leave.

This has probably been one of the best things to hit Panzer in a long time. Two years ago, I wrote…read morean ICE complaint, detailing the need for a restaurant on base which serves breakfast. Yes, Burger King and Charley's serve breakfast, but they aren't restaurant, nor are they really any good. The Kantine re-opened in April 2015 under new management, and the change has been immediate and welcome. The owners and service staff are friendly and take pride in the food they serve and the ambiance in the restaurant. In December 2015, the Kantine held a Christmas cookie decorating event, which was outstanding. The staff not only put the event on, they took the time to help the kids decorate, bake, and eat the cookies...not something you'll find in Charley's or Burger King. As far as breakfast, you aren't going to find a better breakfast on Panzer or in a 5 miles radius; Cafe Shilling gives it a run for its money (read my review). The omelets are as big as your head, the breakfast burritos will leave you feeling full until dinner, and the daily breakfast specials are a nice way to breakup the menu. Oh, besides the portions, the breakfast is tasty and rivals any breakfast joint in the states. Most important to me, the coffee is hot, good, and plentiful. You can't go wrong with lunch here as well. You have your run-in-the-mill German lunches (schnitzel, brats, currywurst, et al), as well as a few American favorites. You also have the daily lunch specials, so when you get tired of schnitzel (not sure why you would), you can mix it up with the daily specials. Again, the portions and the taste are outstanding, two things which are integral to any good restaurant. I have yet to come back from lunch hungry or feeling like I made a bad decision (thank you Burger King). So the prices must be expensive, right? Nope! The prices are comparable to what you would pay in the states for a good breakfast and lunch. They don't take credit cards, so bring your Euro or Dollars. But, this is one of the few places where I don't swear under my breath that they don't take credit cards. There are two ATMs within 100 yards of the Kantine, so no excuse for not having cash. Bottom line, this restaurant is one of the shining spots here at Panzer. The quality, portions, and price of the food is better than you'll find off or on base. The owner and service staff also sets this place above any place in recent memory (again, Cafe Shilling gives it a run for its money). Not only are they nice to the customers, they are nice to my kids when they come in, which is a HUGE deal for me. My only regret with the German American Kantine is they don't serve dinner!

Because I asked for a combo but then realized they had more than one and just asked if I can get hashbrowns I got some attitude with that it felt like a burden to ask for something else for my order, please do better. I will not be going back to this one even though it is closer. I work on Kelley and went to that one yesterday it was so much better overall as an experience and the food at the this one (Panzer) is very lackluster compared to one I had at Kelley yesterday. Also I didn't really want the coffee because I don't drink it and they didn't even fill it up as it should be. The French toast is soggy and limp not even toasty like they just threw it together it looks like it in the picture I have posted but on first touch it is not at all. I could have made this at home much better and not spent 20 euro for trash customer service and crappy food. I usually never do yelp reviews but I had to for this one. Feel free to write me back as well I'm willing to come back and I would like to support this place but if they are going to keep being piss poor then all good no worries. Thank you for your time and hope to hear back from you.
