Admitted my beloved dog for X-rays and killed her with an overdose of anaesthetic. To add insult to injury they couldn't have cared less and the 'director' ordered his staff to stop answering my questions. Disgraceful and traumatising read more

Nor do you get an itemised bill unless you ask. . When I took my dog for an eye infection They put in a green drop to enable any damage to show up. I was charged £36+ I was prescribed drops and told to come back two days later as the prescribed drops could actually ulcerate the eye. Another green drop and another consultation fee charge £31+ this time which included £3.09 for the green drop! and another £3.09 for the first green drop which they didn't mention just charged it. I was charged a second consultation fee and drop fee for the privilege of having it checked that their drug wasn't further damaging the eye. When I went there to ask about the cost having spoken to a lot of people who were as surprised as I was about the second charge I was told to 'write in'. When I did I got no reply to my perfectly polite email until I chased then I eventually received a rude and deeply patronising letter via post from Phillipa Ashman inferring i couldn't afford to pay them and obliquely telling me to take my business elsewhere. Believe me in my opinion this practice is ALL about the money.

I went up here a few times to check out the likelihood of being able to find a border collie, and was surprised to find out that I could go for a walk with any of the dogs to see if it was for me. Of course, the staff are overrun, so the dogs only get to go out quite occasionally. However, with the small army of folk that pop up here on a Sunday for dog walking, the critters are given a good run around at least once a week. What's more, the surrounding countryside is perfect for these activities.

The vets here are fantastic and have a good bedside manner, or tableside manner I guess it would be, or kennelside? Anyway, parking is difficult round here and thankfully they have some spaces available across the road to park so you don't have to heave your sick animal too far. This is part of the Bristol-wide Zetland Veterinary group which has its main clinic in Zetland Road, Redland. For major operations you will be sent there but this branch can handle all injections and recently upgraded to be able to handle several operations including dentistry. Being part of a group, and being connected to the local vet school, means that if you don't go in very often you won't get the same vet twice. However the reception staff are pretty solid so you will always get a familiar face who probably remembers your pet's name. If your pet does have to have lots of treatment, I had my cat in particular before she died have a series of tests and treatments, then I got to see the same vet the whole way through at Zetland, so it isn't as chaotic as it sounds. The vets have all been amazing and very understanding whether we've been blubbing with tears in their reception or having an excited puppy jumping up at them. Prices are average, about £20 consulting fee. They will get anything you need in stock the next day from a certain brand of worming tablet to nail clippers - again a bonus of being a group. I just got a letter through to say that on Tuesdays they will soon be open late which is great for those petowners at work!

Not only did the staff all treat him so kindly, being a nervous dog with separation anxiety, but they provided advice and support for me with Barts teeth, without judgement, which I had experienced at another Vet from a larger Franchise. The pricing was transparent and clear from the outset, which eliminated any embarrassment that I had previously encountered at other vets. Bart is like a new dog since having his dental work. He healed beautifully and it has knocked years off him. He's back to being a cheeky and obnoxious boy, albeit on a more healthy diet to avoid more toothy issues. The full price for over thirty extractions including all necessary blood work and after care with medication came to a third less than one of the other well known vets and definitely did not break our bank. I am so relieved to have found a decent, honest vets practice for his senior years, safe in the knowledge that when the inevitable time comes for our dog to leave us, he will be in the best possible hands and treated with compassion. For now, we are enjoying our happy dog that is free from pain. Many thanks to all of the team at Fernleigh.
