The staff are really nice and try and help out when it is apparent you need an immediate appointment. The vets here are fantastic and have a good bedside manner, or tableside manner I guess it would be, or kennelside? Anyway, parking is difficult round here and thankfully they have some spaces available across the road to park so you don't have to heave your sick animal too far. If you do have an appointment, remember that traffic on the Cheltenham and Gloucester Roads is appalling to dead still at most times of the day so you will need to factor that into your commuter time.

I can only comment on their feline service, but they are gentle and understanding even when faced with a very unhappy animal (our cat does not like being handled by strangers. Full stop.) The costs were reasonable and they were able to supply antibiotics the same day, giving helpful tips on how to administer these to a reluctant cat. The practice has a warm, family feel to it and it's conveniently located for pets living in the St George/Easton/Fishponds areas.

It's a terrible time for a pet lover but I felt like they handled the situation well and understood and anticipated how upset I would be. They also let me leave as gracefully as possible and suggested the bill was settled later when I was in a better frame of mind. I'm not by any means suggesting only go there when your pet is on their last legs. I've found that their routine health care is good and affordable and they don't force treatments or medication that is unnecessary.

Often he comes out second best, and this usually necessitates a trip to our local vets who only charge us £50 (on average) to sort him out. Though this seems a rip-off to me (and if my wife didn't insist, I'd be loath to pay out for the silly little sod), I've no doubt that we'd pay the same price anywhere else. However, at least when they treat him, they offer a friendly service which their customers appreciate, as evidenced by the book of thank you cards that sits in the waiting room, many of which have been sent in by owners whose furry friends now have an appointment at the big vet's in the sky. Not only did the staff all treat him so kindly, being a nervous dog with separation anxiety, but they provided advice and support for me with Barts teeth, without judgement, which I had experienced at another Vet from a larger Franchise. The pricing was transparent and clear from the outset, which eliminated any embarrassment that I had previously encountered at other vets. Bart is like a new dog since having his dental work. He healed beautifully and it has knocked years off him. He's back to being a cheeky and obnoxious boy, albeit on a more healthy diet to avoid more toothy issues. The full price for over thirty extractions including all necessary blood work and after care with medication came to a third less than one of the other well known vets and definitely did not break our bank. I am so relieved to have found a decent, honest vets practice for his senior years, safe in the knowledge that when the inevitable time comes for our dog to leave us, he will be in the best possible hands and treated with compassion. Highcroft is a reliable but relatively expensive vets in the Whitchurch area, catering for all…read moresmaller domestic animals such as hamsters, rabbits and budgies, right through to cats and dogs. There's also a vet who has specialist expertise in exotic animals, for anyone out there who owns snakes, lizards and the like. Most of the vets there seem to be quite young, and pretty friendly - although I've never seen the same vet twice! The service I've received has always been good and I've gone away feeling happy that I've received good advice - although my pockets are always a lot lighter, too. On top of the usual services most vets offer, such as vaccinations and consultations about specific health issues, Highcroft also has a free 24-hour advice line manned by a trained veterinary nurse, which is reassuring if you're worried about your pet outside of the usual office hours. I discovered one night that my hound had got her teeth into some chocolate, which can be poisonous in large quantities, so I rang up and the lady who I spoke to was great. They can help you decide whether to wait until the morning to see a vet, or opt for emergency (expensive!) treatment. Next to the reception area you can pick up pet care leaflets and browse the small shop area, which sells specialist pet foods and other pet care products such as dog shampoos, cat collars, leads, and so on - as well as those grim pigs' ears that my dog always heads straight for. Overall I would recommend this vet. Despite being more expensive than many others for consultations and some treatments, I do think the service is good and I do trust them to dish out good advice.

In terms of fees, you can expect to pay standard veterinary rates. Food, however, is cheaper and more varied in the pet shop across the road.

Yes, but they have an entire surgical staff available out of normal working hours, overnight and bank holidays.....having done my fair share of working these hours, I do not begrudge anyone getting paid extra for these hours. Our rescue greyhound took very ill on Boxing Day, and was screeching with pain if he tried to move. We made a call to them first and after explaining about his pain, were told that we could try and get some pain relief into him to allow us to get him in the car. We did this, and gave him overnight to settle and the following morning we took him to the vets. It was incredibly busy, but they took the time to ensure covid measures were kept in place, and a vet took a look at him as soon as one was available. He was in so much pain, they needed to sedate him in order to do an ultrasound, but had no available kennel free right then. My husband sat with him for about 45 mins when one large enough became free, and they gave him lots of cuddles as they took him to his kennel. We got a phone call a couple of hours later explaining what was wrong, and sadly there was nothing to be done. He had a ruptured tumour on his liver with almost no healthy liver left, so they made him comfortable and gave us time to go back there so that we could see him and sit with him giving us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. They gave us several days before calling to talk about settling the bill, which - having had dogs my whole life - was NOT extortionate for the out of hours emergency situation it could have been. Quite frankly, if you are going to worry over the cost of caring for a pet, get insurance or don't have a pet! I for one never want to be in a position where I have to think of the cost of treatment before deciding on the best course of action. I have had previous dogs also be treated here, and the treatment then was also excellent, even though it was quite a long time ago. I was so…read moreworried about my cats downhill decline that I called Vets Now, described her symptoms and they were very helpful, but obviously couldn't give her a diagnosis over the phone. Ended up bringing her in that afternoon. The vet was wonderful, really good with her. She hates vets and instantly gets growly and weird. He seemed to really care about her and did everything he could to help her feel more comfortable. I really hope he was wrong with his suspected diagnosis, but we won't know more really until she has x-rays and biopsy. It was not a cheap visit - the consultation alone was over £100. However the attention she received was certainly worth it. Our last vet visit just a few weeks ago cost £50 for a vaccination and worm tablet and they completely failed to notice she had an advanced growth and brushed aside our worries that her coat wasn't looking as healthy as it was.
