It's a Sunday and walked pass the said restaurant and asked politely if they do Dim Sum. The lady…read morecleaning the outside replied not on Sunday but Monday to Friday. Well dim sum is a significant culture for Chinese as a gathering family meal on Sunday (just like a Sunday roast for brits). I didn't bother to go in as it's just not going to be authentic!

Have you ever been for a posh Chinese? The two words aren't usually synonymous - unfortunately,…read moregoing for a Chinese now involves a trip down a shop that resembles a kebab shop, only with noodles instead. The Good Earth is an old school restaurant - beautifully designed inside, with plenty of large round tables, and my favourite, those round turning slabs on top of the tables which means that that I, err, I mean everyone, can try some of each others dishes. There is a bar to one side where dressed up ladies and gentlemen of Esher discuss property prices and where they are skiing this year (I presume). Inside the main restaurant, I would advise ordering as much as you could possibly fit. The portions are are good size, but the food is considerably more expensive then in your average Chinese, but the price difference is worth it. You will recognise a lot of the dishes, it's just they are done with more flavour and spice than other places (but with no MSG). Look out for plenty of fish dishes that you wouldn't normally find, such as sea bass, Dover sole and monkfish. I wouldn't go out of your way to make room for dessert, as with most Chinese restaurants, the puddings are not a high point. Perhaps have another drink at the bar to finish your meal. Have one for me!

However I would not say that the interior decor is modern or very out dated that it need renovation. It was more of the feeling "I know I'm in a Chinese restaurant" Dim Sum is ordered by marking on a menu sheet and then handed to a staff. I am not sure if there is an English version as ours where in Chinese. I'm sure staff happy to translate if there is not. The quality dim sum is comparable or even better than many places in London Chinatown. They even have Yolk bun which is not found in many places in London. This is a steamed bun that is smiliar to custard bun but is has a creamy runny salty egg yolk center which has a slightly sandy texture. This bun is best enjoyed hot so when it arrived make sure you eat it first. The mini egg tarts is made well and on a busy weekend they will run out. Once gone they are gone! I love the congee (savoury Chinese rice pudding) because they are huge portion compare to most places and it come served with Chineses savoury doughnuts. But the prices does reflect the size of the portion. There is a lunch rice and noodle menu. On there is a handmade cuttlefish ball noodle. You won't get this anywhere else so worth trying if you ever visit Go Sing.

This is their favourite Chinese restaurant that they always hit when they're up this way. Go Sing offers an 'all you can eat for one price' deal but you get to order (repeatedly) from a menu of almost 100 dishes. This is probably less wasteful than a buffet and you get to sample the exact dishes that you would like. The staff were friendly and attended to all our needs, refilling tea cups as necessary. We had half a crispy duck to share and my American friends were happy to let me have my favourite part - gnawing the bones! It's hard to go wrong with crispy duck. Then a selection of starters and the undoubted star was the squid in salt and chilli batter - the squid was nice and tender with crunchy and flavoursome batter. We ordered 2 extra portions! For main course, we rated the duck in honey and lemon sauce highly, with the lemon balancing against the honey well. I got my friends to try the ma po tofu, which may have changed their attitude to tofu! A nice place to catch up and get a tummy full of yummy food.

I can't believe I've not reviewed this before, as I'm regular here…read more This is a fairly large restaurant for the area, with a slightly twee waterwheel at the entrance. Don't be put off though, because inside it's a proper old fashioned restaurant with white napkins and tablecloths. They don't do dim sum any more, but have a familiar Chinese menu with Szechuan specialities, including some of the more challenging spicy offal dishes. But there are plenty of familiar favourites for the less adventurous. It's frequented by local Chinese families, which is always a good sign. Staff are friendly and efficient. Expect two courses with coffee and wine to be about £25-30 a head.

The dim sum menu has only restarted in the last year and a half when they got in a new chef. The service is always prompt and courteous. Kids will be fascinated by the large fish tank and water wheel feature. The preponderence of Chinese clientele tells its own story - we are very fussy when it comes to food. The food is of good quality, quantity and ingredients - large prawns in har gau and cheong fun, crispy pastry for the char siew sow and lovely roasted meats. The food isn't greasy, a common problem for lower quality dim sum places. The pastry skins are all thin for the steamed dishes and crispy for the fried dishes. They lose a star for a slightly small menu with some old favourites missing like siu loong bow and shark fin dumpling. Also, they used to serve suckling pig and it's still on the menu but no longer available. They also do an evening menu but I can't really comment on that. It's a great place for dim sum and what they do have on the menu is first class.
