At this Whale Tea location at least, you order and pay at a kiosk and they tell you when your drink is ready. I went with one of The Whale Tea's signature drinks -- The Whale Crystal. The kiosk pic for this order showed horizontal blue, white and orange-brownish layers. The description said it was coconut milk and peach jelly. When they handed the tea to me, there was no blue layer. Just a white and orange-brownish layer. That was disappointing since I was largely going for the visual. I wouldn't think that I had to add something to my order to achieve the blue layer since it was the pic for this order. But as I said, I'm not experienced with Boba Tea.
