We have eaten here several times. I was surprised I hadn't logged a review, but am happy to correct that error on my part! This has a nice restaurant vibe - nice tables, tablecloths, art on the walls, good lighting, nice, quiet carpeted spaces. There is a lot to like. We made a reservation, were greeted at the door and then promptly seated. Water came out quickly, along with the menus and the wine list. The wine list was a bit light in that all the bottles were typically lower cost. With such a wide variety of food on the menu, it deserves a bit more depth and some better wines to be included. Not that the wines that were included were bad - they were not. They are just at the very low entry end of the market. Picking up a few from Justin, Stag's Leap, and others in the $80 range would help enhance the restaurant's list. We both ordered entrees, which came with the either soup or salad - we both elected to get salads, where I selected a Caesar and my wife had a standard salad. The Caesar had plenty of parmesan cheese and croutons. The dressing was a bit thin - traditional Caesar dressings are cream based, this one seemed to be light on the garlic and anchovies. No anchovies were available, so it's kind of a light "Caesar." The regular salad my wife had was good - she enjoyed it. For the main course, I ordered their Filet Mignon, medium rare with a baked potato. The server asked if I wanted butter and sour cream, which I did and which was provided. The filet is provided in a cabernet reduction. This may have been a bit much, it was hard to taste the filet with the reduction. The filet came with broccoli which was steamed and was nicely done. The baked potato was cooked through (as expected, and worked well with the butter and sour cream. My wife enjoyed her Shrimp and Grits - the shrimp was cooked quite nicely and seasoned well. We were concerned about the meal size, so we skipped an appetizer, and it was a good thing since she took half of her shrimp and grits home. When we went there we were the only patrons I actually wanted to go to the next door restaurant but my son said I want to try this restaurant. I never read the bad reviews but the food was so greasy. The food was very blend. My son's burger was cook rare the beef stroganoff was so bland no flavor the beef looked like it had worms yuk. Had the potato rolls, poblano soup and the Bailey's creme brûlée. The potato Rolls were a bit too greasy but they were still super yummy; tasty inside and a nice crunch on the outside. It's a definite comfort food. The soup was great; just enough spice to add to it but not overwhelm the taste. My friend had the clam chowder and said it was delicious. The real treat was the Baileys creme brûlée! Yum! A nice smooth creamy taste with a hint of Baileys, and the top was the perfect little crisp that made the dessert a perfect 10! read more

A group of my colleagues were directed to Nat's by a law professor and dean at NIU School of Law. My colleagues had GREAT difficulty with the food ordered -- smothered chicken barely eaten; shrimp and grits served with undercooked grainy grits; and most significantly the "MAMA'S SUNDAY GRAVY" -- braised short ribs / burrata / homemade tomato sauce / angel hair ~ was inedible and the request for additional sauce on the side ignored. I ordered the shrimp and grits with andouille sausage, and it was just average. The shrimp were decently cooked, but the dish lacked bold flavor and was greasy. The grits were underseasoned, leaving the overall experience a bit bland. Not bad, but not memorable--worth trying once, but I wouldn't rush back for it. Wonderful service and venue, especially the accommodation of a private dining space, but not enough to save an otherwise underwhelming experience. Hometown hero? Not for me! Three days ago I visited Nat's On Maple in my hometown of Sycamore, Illinois. From what I hear, this place is the rock and center of good restaurants in Sycamore. But, it did not make that mark for me.This place suffers from one simple thing, price! As a brokie, this place can sure run you up! Prices were steeper than a hill, and the food just did not match the price. Getting a bison burger for the first time, and receiving a rare cook on it instead of the medium I asked for? Blasphemy, you could have killed me! A positive, the sweet potato fries were amazing, and the waiter was awesome, just a little clumsy. Overall this place gets three stars! Will I come here again? A nice quiet restaurant with delicious food. Their menu here is wide and full of delicious dishes! Just by looking at their menu your mouth will going to say that everything is really delicious and great. I've tried a number of dishes but always flock back towards the pot roast. Recommend the chicken tortilla soup. Their sangria was good, but their Pecan Russian drink made me downright giggle when I tasted it. The food is good. No question. But they make some bad decisions. Suggestions to management. 1. When casual crosses over into street attire, it diminishes your brand. Demand a minimun level. 2. When you host a 17 person party on Saturday night, staff it. Poor waitress was apologizing all night. Add the staff necessary or move to middle of the week or Sunday afternoon. 3. Nat's has apparently decided a successful business model is this: raise prices while trashing quality. Yesterday we went there for my daughter's birthday. She ordered a salad - can't screw up a salad. My wife ordered the salmon. It was fine. I made the mistake of ordering the Gouda chicken. Apparently the "chef" learned to cook by tuning in late to "Worst Cooks in America" and thinking he/she was watching "Iron Chef." This dish was two chicken breasts (one of which was unchewably tough and therefore inedible), a couple of mushroom slices (probably canned), a large hockey puck of tasteless saffron rice, absolutely smothered in what I guess was the Gouda part of the thing but was more like the gravy in biscuits and... . The only good thing about the "sauce" was that it hid the rest of the thing. I used to order the Jambalaya but it devolved into a massive plate of rice hiding a few shreds of chicken, a few miniature shrimp and a couple of slivers of sausage. That should have been the tip-off to stay away from Nat's, which we plan on doing. By the way, the tab for our dinner was $80+ and that's after my "meal" was comped after I complained. read more

I went to Nat's on Maple with co-workers last night and we were seated in the private room where the wine bottles were stored. I was seated closest to the wine wall. During our time there, the wait staff was in and out grabbing bottles of wine to serve to their respective tables which was fine there was plenty of room for them to pass without interrupting our meal. Our waitress was polite and attentive. Before food came out. A Male waiter walked into the room to grab a bottle of wine like many others have. But unlike the others, he touched my shoulder and then continued to run his hand down my arm. I literally had to flinch away for him to stop and then he quickly slunk out of the room. I was mortified and livid. How dare he try to belittle and harass me in front of my co-workers. I was just meeting people at this work event and didnt want to cause a disruption so I left the room to report what happened to the manager. The manager Tracy believed my account and said she would have to report this to the GM. We traded contact information so the GM could call me for my account. This afternoon the assistant GM Sean called and wanted to hear my side of the story as there is " a lot of he said she said". I said sure and told my side and specifically told the asst. GM that I don't think that man should work there any longer. The asst GM asked for some other details, how big is my company, and witnesses etc but he didn't seem appalled. He just didn't want to lose money. He only apologized when he said "sorry this is a hard call to make"... and what can I do to get your business back. I told him nothing bc the damage was done. I then asked if he needed anymore information from me because at this point I knew he wasn't going to do anything. Sean said "no but just call ahead if we decide to eat there again so he can be there". (.... to protect me? From someone he knows is doing suspect activity at his establishment that serves food to the unsuspected public. Remember this man was not even our waiter and this happened to me. Is that Sean's solution to just be there?) In conclusion, NAT'S ON MAPLE IS OKAY WITH HIRING PERVERSE AND SADISTIC STAFF. WOMEN ARE NOT SAFE THERE AND THEY WON'T BELIEVE YOU IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS. We've been here before and it was pretty good, but not this time. Waitress didn't know what vodka they had other than Tito's. Had to check a cheat sheet, but no vodkas were on the sheet. I finally gave up. Wife ordered a filet medium rare. One end of it was well done, the other was medium well. Baked potato hat so much salt on it she couldn't eat it Son ordered a burger medium rare, came out medium well. Lettuce on the burger was so wilted he pulled it off. We got married at the courthouse and made a reservation for 17 people here. We had an unexpected extra, making it 18 people. They said no problem and welcomed us in! What a great experience. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. Food was quick, hot, delicious. We were allowed to bring in our wedding cake and they helped us with serving it as well! LOVE this place! Great service every time. Food always comes out hot and is always so fresh tasting. My favorite part is that almost every time i order the same thing, and it tastes identical every single time! Consistency is key. My absolute favorite item on the menu is the Gouda Chicken Melt. Every bite has delicious mushrooms, bacon, chicken, and the amazing garlic aioli on top of thick Texas toast. What's not to love? Plenty of seating, great for lunch, extremely accommodating for large groups, especially about splitting up the checks, full bar, and specials change daily. Went with the family the other night. The food was very good. Service was good. We did have to ask for bread and had to keep passing things to others on our table. Thought that was odd when there was room for her to reach some of the place settings. It was just odd to have to grab your plate from the wait staff. She would come to one area of the table and we would pass the items. Only one seat was unreachable and I would've been fine with that. She was nice and okay, but not exceptional. The food was very good. Our table had the calamari for an appetizer. It was cooked well and not rubbery. Entrees were the pot roast, mama's sunday gravy, coconut shrimp, salmon, and the black & bleu salad. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The salad was what I had. It was fine, but nothing outstanding. For dessert, we ordered the Bailey's creme brulee and the apple dessert with cinnamon ice cream. They were both fine. The creme brulee didn't have much of a Bailey's taste at all. The apple dessert (can't remember, I think it was a cobbler) was good. I would eat here again. It's a little nicer restaurant for the area and the food was good. read more

Nats on Maple is an elegant, impressively amazing restaurant located in downtown Sycamore. This place is cozy, comfortable, and delicious! It's not that easy to find a restaurant that offers experience with great quality food and nice aesthetics! Here's nice for a date, friends gathering, big party dining, or just a taste of wine! We order fried pickle and stuffed mushroom to start with. It's not common to find fried pickle but it's amazing! Fresh, crispy, and nice dressing! I didn't expect stuffed mushroom is deep fried as well, but they did a great job because the cream cheese, breaking, and mushrooms are just balanced perfectly! Highly recommend those two dishes to start! Most amazing thing though, is the main course we ordered. I have chicken oscar - it's chicken breast with lump crab, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. This is outstanding. I don't usually order chicken since it's relatively easier to cook at home, but this is a must try. I'm also a big fan of crab too so it explains why. My boyfriend ordered goat cheese pasta. It's so good as well. All the ingredients they picked just go very well together, big portion too! Stop by and pick something you like on menu, you will probably end up going back again!! Oh by the way, their soups are excellent too! Service is always great! ---- We are back during lunch hours. The Togo food is packed professionally. Sauce , dressing is on the side so when you get to your destination it's not soggy. You don't even have to ask . The Crispy Cajun Chicken will knock your sox off ! The Jambalaya has heat and it's phenomenal. I thought I was in New Orleans. They don't skimp on shrimp ,sausage or chicken. Just missing the crawfish. Did I mention the Pot Roast dinner ? Mash potatoes and gravy with a roast that has been slo cooking all day . If you get the three Cheese Pasta your going to want to compliment it with a Blackened Chicken breast . And my all time favorite Beef Stroganoff woo hoo . Took my wife to Nat's for her birthday lunch. She had Beef Stroganoff, and I had Shrimp and Grits. Both entrees were great. She had a signature drink made with pecan liquor, and I had two glasses of wine with our meal. The food is fresh and a great value. But what impressed me the most was the waiter. This guy is amazing. He met us at the door, showed us to our table, and gave us our menus. He took our drink order, made the drinks , served us our drinks, and told us about their lunch specials. All that while taking care of pick up orders and answering the phone. This guy could be teaching a course in hospitality for other restaurants. He also brought our dessert and sang happy birthday to my wife. We live 30 mile away, but we will be making the trip often. read more
