Walking up to the counter you're greeted with a friendly welcoming smile from a Corner Grind employee. While taking your order there are two large chalkboards behind the counter to choose a drink, a breakfast item, or lunch items. Then you have two small chalkboards describing this week or month special, one to your left describing the new monthly specials for drinks. To your right a board filled with the exciting new lunch specials for the week which include two sandwiches or salads and a soup of the week. Once you've ordered your drink or food, can to chooses to sit outside at a table, in a relaxing wooden chair, inside at the countertop, or table. To receive your drink or food you're called up to the counter to get your order. Taking your first bite out of your Italian sandwich your taste buds are met with an explosion of flavor. Filled with so much meat the tomato and lettuce are overflowing on the sides of the soft french baguette. To help your sandwich go down you take a sip of your hot cinnamony honey bunches of oat latte. Your soon then filled with an eternal warmth from the heat of the latte. Finishing up your experience at Corner Grind you're sent off with a kind farewell and a need to come back. Corner Grind is the best because they want your experience to be as memorable as it can be. One thing I would love to see Corner Grind do is to extend its week-day hours. High schoolers that attend Kaneland, get out of school at 2:50. By the time I get out of the school parking lot and arrive at Corner Grind their closed. As a high schooler, I would and as many others would go to Corner Grind after school to get a drink or sandwich and utilize the environment to study and debrief from the long day at school. Even if the extension of business hours were just for another hour Corner Grind would have a lot of business for that hour due to the loyal customer base. Even without this change Corner Grind is still the best coffee shop in the Chicago land area.

I normally have positive experiences at local restaurants and was looking forward to experiencing…read moreone on a Saturday night at Portofino Trattoria in Campton Hills but unfortunately a 1 hr 45 minute wait for 3 pretty basic dishes that were obviously rushed in being prepared left a bad impression on us. We sat at the bar and the one bartender tried his best to keep up with the drink orders for the whole restaurant & the bar patrons drink & food orders. As we approached a wait of 1 hour & 35 minutes, we asked the bartender to have the meals placed in to go boxes. 10 more minutes go by without our meals and we asked to speak to a member of management. What was concerning was the restaurant manager on duty only came out when we requested to speak with a manager. In a calm tone, asked the manager on duty if a 1 hr 45 minute wait for our meals was reasonable. He tried to tell us that they were very busy and the kitchen was behind. Agreed. When asked if we should pay for a meal that was severely delayed he agreed the wait was excessive and he would cover the cost of the meal. I appreciate this reaction from the manager on duty. Unfortunately, when we took our meals to go, we didn't have a good experience with the meals. Received one chicken breast grilled and one breaded for the Portofino Pollo dish. Looked like they grabbed what was up at the time in the kitchen and placed it in the to go containers. Flavors were bland, likely a result of being rushed after a 1 hr 45 min wait. This might be coincidental but being short staffed at the Compton Hills location when they are opening a new location in Geneva is probably what led to the severe delays from the kitchen in servicing meals. Hope the opening of the Geneva location doesn't adversely impact the Campton Hills location beyond our dining visit experience. I gave a rating of 2 as the Manager on Duty did agree to cover the meal cost. The bartender tried to keep us from leaving by offering us a drink on the house to stay after we asked for the meals to be placed in to go boxes to take home at that point versus staying and dining. Proactive customer support would've helped versus a reactive attempt of customer support. Didn't penalize the bartender and provided a cash tip since the kitchen's delay was not his fault. Let's hope Portofino Trattoria does better in the future.

We already loved the food and atmosphere but Double Egg goes the extra mile. With how busy they were, we didn't have long of a wait. Quick enough that I barely got a chance to look at the menu and get ahold of my toddler. Our waitress gave us more time to check out what we wanted without us feeling rushed. Something I will always love at any restaurant is fresh squeezed juices. My favorite being orange juice, but they do have several others as well. The complimentary soup was delicious. Chicken and rice. I didn't think to order my toddler one because he can be fairly picky and I didn't want to waste it. Bad idea on my end apparently because I only got two bites -- while my toddler devoured the rest. I ordered a quart of the soup to go. SO glad that is an option! When our food arrived, which was fairly quickly in my opinion, my mom's was missing cheese. She brought it to our waitress's attention and her plate was immediately brought back with the missing cheese in place. I got the chilaquiles which were phenomenal. For those who are curious, the salsa verde that is used can be a little spicy for those with a more sensitive pallet. My toddler and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I feel that the prices are very reasonable. When we were leaving, my mother and I were each handed a rose and told happy Mother's Day. This was the extra mile. Not only do they provide so many made-in-house options (fresh squeezed juice, etc), and complimentary soups; they knew that something so small as handing out single roses to mothers, could make a huge impact.. and they did it. For those of us that are single parent and have toddlers, such a small act of kindness really goes a long way. Thank you Double Egg for going the extra mile. We'll definitely be back again.

There's always like a hundred Harleys in front, so just look for those and you can find this. Beer is cheap. Liquor is cheap too. It's about $6 for a basic cocktail. Whatever and Coke pretty much. Food is what is expected. Pretty cheap stuff. Free popcorn is always available. There's also stuff like frozen pizzas if they aren't out of stuff. Better than it looks. It looks sketchy but it's okay. The crowd can be louder than the Harleys but there's usually no bar fights or those kinds of things.
