We have found ourselves in the area twice recently from Chicago and made our way over to Lodi Tap House. It is a top notch restaurant with fantastic beer selections and welcoming staff. We will definitely be coming back whenever we are in the area! We first heard about Lodi because of their IL Craft Beer advent calendar. It was a wonderful experience in the month of December. We highly recommend it for your next holiday season! One of our favorite parts of our visit was figuring out which beer to get. With such an extensive selection of local and regional beers, it's hard to decide! But what a wonderful problem to have. We've tried several wonderful beers and discovered new breweries that are local enough to travel to. More adventures! The first time we went, I got the California burger (February burger special) with blackened coleslaw. It was so so good. My spouse got the Buffalo chicken wrap with fries and loved it. This time, I got the March burger of the month: the Reuben burger. I also got fries this time. The flavors were so scrumptious that I gobbled it down! My spouse got the hot honey chicken sandwich and also loved the flavors. Despite the generous portion sizes, we had no leftovers! Prices are great, servers are kind and welcoming, and the space is rustic, clean, and full of character. We have been coming here for a few years now and love the food and beers! The servers are always so nice and helpful. Today I had the mushroom and Swiss burger with Mac n cheese and my husband had the regular smash burger with cheese curds. The cheese curds were the best we have ever had with a huge cheese pull! We both loved our burgers and sides. We love the rustic feel of the bar area and it is always clean! They have a huge beer selection. Swung by the Lodi Tap House on the way back into town from out west. Got the buttermilk brined chicken sandwich, tossed in their honey sriracha sauce. Came topped with a house slaw, and fresh, hot, well seasoned fries. The server was also the bartender, and very nice. The sandwich was the star of the show, and was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a hot minute. I'm only giving four stars instead of five because the sandwich, while delicious, was not even a little spicy. I was hoping with the honey sriracha, it would have a nice bite. I've been here multiple times and I absolutely love this place. Not only for the beer selections but the food is great and the staff is super friendly. The chicken and waffle is great. Perfectly crunchy chicken and sweet waffle/syrup combo is yum! So many beers from breweries near and far that I'm always hard pressed to choose. There's a sampler for those of you like me. Bonus is being from the NW suburbs it's a drive to Maple Park but a contrast from house to house and strip mall living. So wide open and a great small town atmosphere. Just tried Lodi for the first and last time tonight. We ordered food based on recommendations from another diner. We waited 45 minutes for our Mac & cheese dishes to come only to be served stone cold food. Sent it back to have them warm it and after waiting nearly 10 more minutes finally gave up, paid for our drinks and left. read more

The cheese curds are no longer squeaky and they didn't have green onion on top (which added a great contrast to the cheese). And half of them were cold with no cheese pull. The burger is not the same!! There is no oozy gooey velveeta cheese, just a translucent cheese slice. Larger smash patty wouldn't be terrible if the bun was somewhat large enough to hold it. My friends and I have visited the North Utica location, so we knew this place had potential! Had late lunch here on a Sunday afternoon, and were not disappointed! Excellent beer and adult beverages. Food was served fresh, hot, and delicious. Wait staff was friendly and attentive! My only nitpick issue was limited washrooms - one for the entire restaurant. If you need to use the washroom urgently, you may have to wait in line. Overall, decor was great, and the menu has upscale pub grub to suit a wide assortment of tastes. We have been really looking forward to checking out Lodi! I think trying it for the first time during this Phase 3 of reopening was probably a bad idea. I don't think they have their new systems fully in place to give it a totally fair review...So, we will go back, and I will update my review. As for this trip during Phase 3, they were busy and chaotic. The tent, to the west of the building, had about 16 tables under the tent, very well spaced, and another 6-8 six tops outside in the sun. It took us about five minutes to get seated since the servers were busy. It took us about ten minutes to get menus, then ten more minutes to put in our order. Honestly, these times are not the reason for my three star review. I understand why things take longer with all the new rules. My stars really come from the food, here's our ratings: Lemonade C-, tart and no sugar packets available Kids chicken tenders A+, delicious and two big tenders, plenty for the price Fries on the side C, burnt/way overdone Buffalo Chicken Wrap C+, good for a chicken wrap, not buffalo style, or even spicy, at all Sub Curds on the side A+, absolutely live up to the hype!!! See the photos, but realize the tent was red, so the color is off. We will go back, the vibe is cool, but we would like to experience the inside and a more regular setting. read more

There is a wonderful Wisconsin type bar in Maple Park Illinois that has some of THE BEST FOOD around. WHEN we walked into LODI TAP HOUSE I instantly felt at home. I just love Wisconsin type bars and this one fits it so well with a BEER MUG CLUB WALL filled with mugs of all sorts, wood everywhere in a home style setting which made me sooo happy. We were instantly welcomed by Brittany the bar tender who told us to sit anywhere we wanted to. BRITTANY was amazing, there were several people there and she pleased everyone with her quick service, her wonderful personality and her great knowledge of the menu as the people who came in. Brittany knew her customers and catered to them accordingly. Brittany did it all up front with a smile on her face and a great laugh. We first ordered the HOMEMADE BEER BATTERED CHEESE CURDS and they were better than the ones in Wisconsin. They had a great tasting sauce with it and we asked for another one of these sauces for the burgers we ordered. WE then ordered their homemade beef soup and it was great... Lots of beef and veggie that were perfect for this soup. THEN came their burgers and WE JUST love them... I had a Tap house SMASH CHEESE BURGER double and hubby had a Blue Cheesy burger double, BOTH were incredible with flavor LOAD that exceeded my expectations. The Cheesy smash burger was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside just the way I love it. It had lots of Velveeta on it and it was wonderful with that sauce I put on is from the Cheese curds. Hubby's Blue Cheesy burger the same with lots of Blue Cheese and grilled onions on it. Both of us ordered the Fried Potato salad instead of the fries and it was wonderful. Fried potatoes chopped up nicely with and interesting cheese sauce, bacon and green onions. My family and I came here for dinner and thought the place was alright! We ordered cheese curds, potato salad and wings as appetizers. They all came out fresh and piping hot. The cheese curds were huge - almost golf ball sized! It was delicious, though the batter was a little on the salty side. The wings were alright with not much flavor to them. The potato salad was actually my favorite out of the 3. Nice, crisp breakfast potato with shredded cheese and green onions to top it off. My entree was the Smash'd Burger double with fries. The patties were on the thin side and caked with Velveeta cheese, topped with your classic lettuce, tomato, pickle and onions, all on a buttered brioche bun. I'm not a big fan of Velveeta, but the burger itself was fantastic! I'll have to order this one again, but with a different cheese. Overall, the experience was great. Ok so we will have to come back to eat more. We went here just for 2 bloody mary's and a pretzel, and that was lunch. Seriously. The pretzel is so huge that between the 2 of us we couldn't finish it. But it was delicious. Now the real reason we went was for the Bloody Mary's which are of the "it's a drink and app in one" variety. They only serve then on weekends. If this sort of drink I consider the Sayner Pub in Wisconsin to be the gold standard. Lodi had a different twist on it that in many ways was very clever, but on the whole didn't quite measure up. Plusses: Slider on the stick, boneless buffalo wing, not too strong (could also be minus, depending on your POV) Minuses: No celery (what's a bloody mary without celery?), The fried cheese curds and bacon on the skewer didn't really work because they were stone cold. Other things looked good (burgers in particular), and the beer selection appeared top notch. We'll have to come back and try some other things! read more

My family and I have been going to Lodi for quite some time. As soon as the owners started buying more business it was almost like Lodi was forgotten about. It used to be amazing food, the cheese curds were delicious and the burgers were huge. My son and I really enjoyed there burgers and beer so we wanted to give it another chance. Now everything is so expensive and you get half of the portions you used to get. My family and I now have to fight for the few cheese curds that they now serve at a higher price. Lodi had a special for a while, it was a taco burger. My son and I did NOT order the special or anything close to a taco, just a smash burger. We used to be stuffed after getting a double smash burger but we were then served a burger with taco seasonings that was half the size and we still left hungry. This place did a total 180 after the owners started buying more places leaving Lodi neglected. The servers are very nice and good at their job but the food isn't worth it, spend your money elsewhere. read more

I actually feel bad about writing this review. I don't think I've ever written a negative review about a restaurant but, after our recent visit to Lodi Tap House, I feel I should warn others. But keep in mind that the bad experience we had that day might have been out of the ordinary for Lodi. We may try Lodi Tap House again in the future just to see if things are better. We discovered the Lodi Tap house about five years ago or so. We liked the feeling of the place. It's small and friendly. The food was good too. I remember looking them up to find that they were apparently named for making the best hamburger in the Chicago area a while back. I don't remember what we ordered but it was good. Their cheese curds were excellent. I think I had what they call a smash burger although I seem to remember I got a double smash burger and it was good. We went there several more times in the next few years but I don't remember what I had or how good it was but I don't recall a bad experience - until last week. I ordered a smash burger and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the worst hamburger I've ever had in my life. I mean that literally. Now I know why they call them smash burgers. It was paper thin although it overlapped the small bun. But size wasn't the problem. It was so bad that I had to force myself to eat it because I hate wasting food. It was burned and tasted like charcoal. And even if a part of it wasn't burned, it tasted horrible. I mean, REALLY bad! And for $16 or $17 with fries, I felt like I just threw my money away. The fries were OK and the cheese curds were excellent although I believe they cut down the size of the order since the last time we were there but I could be wrong about that. One other thing: When paying the bill, the waitress comes to the table with an electronic device that the customer signs but then it comes up with a tip page where you check what percentage tip you are leaving. I always tip around 25% or so but the fact that the waitress is standing right over you watching as you choose the tip is an awkward situation. I had no problem with the waitress at all - she was very friendly - so I would have given her a 25% tip even though the burger was terrible but I just don't like having her stand over me watching what tip I'm giving her. After we discovered Lodi Tap House a few years ago, we went to the pub down the street and liked it more than Lodi. In fact, we've been there many times and it's been especially nice since new owners expanded it and updated it a few years ago. That's where we've been going but we decided to go back to Lodi Tap House for a change but were very disappointed. Now, I can't speak about Lodi's other menu items. They may very well be excellent but, as I said with no exaggeration, the burger I received was so bad that I wouldn't have eaten it except that I hate to waste food. And, although I'm writing a negative review, I wouldn't have felt comfortable complaining at the time. That's just how I am. But I thought I should warn others about their smash burgers. Maybe it was a fluke but I doubt it. It REALLY was as bad as I say. I think most people would have refused to eat it. I don't think most people COULD have eaten it. It was that bad. I should mention that Lodi Tap House also took over what was Duffy's Tavern in Utica, IL. I thought that was a shame because Duffy's was a real tradition for many years. But if what I had last week at Lodi Tap House in Maple Park was just a fluke, that's OK, but I do miss Duffy's as it was for so long. read more

I've been wanting to visit the Lodi Tap House for some time now. But I finally, finally made it. Their cheese curds were awesome and fries were good. The chicken sandwich was also absolutely delicious! I could really see this chicken sandwich going well with an authentic Nashville Hot Chicken sauce, All in all, the food was really good. Their customer service was great, all of their staff was decent, nice, and attentive. All of them contribute to our amazing stay. Can't wait to pay a visit here again. This is the Midwest Cheers; a bar where everyone knows your name. I was in the area for work and decided to check the place out. Very cool spot and everyone is super friendly. The minute I walked in I was greeted by the bartender and a few people sitting at the bar. Immediately making me feel welcomed and there was a strange discussion going on with a few people about the color of one of the guys shirt: salmon vs pink....Very funny and one women yelled out let's ask the new guy (me). Needless to say you are instantly part of the pack at this joint. BTW it was pink... LOL Great local brews on tap and good number of bottles and cans to choose. The food is pretty good and they have a signature chicken dish that I will have to try next time I'm in the area. They also have numbered mugs hanging everywhere which is part of the mug club. Not sure about all the details but pretty much you pay a membership fee and get your own mugs to drink from whenever your there at a discount price. So if you find yourself in the far far west suburbs of Chicago hit this spot up. Good times. read more

Stopped in for the first time for lunch on NYE. Loved the Rustic bar atmosphere where you have your choice of sitting at the bar, a high top or tables in the enclosed patio. They source alcohol from Illinois breweries and distilleries and support local food supplies. Unfortunately on our visit they were short staffed and one employee was preoccupied with a family emergency so service wasn't the best but I'll overlook that and say it's worth another visit. Cheese curds were large and yummy and the burger was made on a flattop with crispy edges and served on a bun that wasn't too doughy. As mentioned, service was off and my husbands burger had two bottom buns and our fries weren't salted so quality needs to be worked on but we will be back because the place is cool and a lot of potential to support local companies. read more

Two years later and it has digressed. Not enough help, which I understand now days, but if you are under staffed cut back your seating! It's even more expensive than before. The special burger was....ok. Pretty dry for having a slice of canned pineapple on it. Did not discern any sauce. Fries were cold, they clearly died in the window waiting for the rest of the table (2) orders. Service was very slow. I would have mentioned the cold fries, but no one came by the table to check. Two of the three of us had the burgers, and we were impressed! My wife had the chicken and fries, and loved it, too. What was the homerun were the cheese curds. Simply the best that I have ever had. The place was a little on the small side, but that's not really a negative. Seemed like a mixed crowd between local and new customers. It's a little noisy, but not in a bad way. Our experience here was just a-okay. I was so excited about this location due to the menu online- but then we had a few challenges. The space is very cool- and our server was lovely. Those were 2 of the best parts of the evening. We had a variety of beers and cocktails as a table-all of which were enjoyable and I loved the deviled egg appetizer. However, our entrees were a bit of a struggle. My friend wanted french onion soup- and they were out- before dinner rush even started. Half an hour west from Batavia-Geneva-St. Charles area and a peaceful drive through rural Illinois you will find this great little craft beer/gourmet food place. I chose the brined, buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. Topped with your choice of cheese (mine was swiss) aioli mayo on a brioche roll. I also chose the 5 spice Argentinian shrimp. I think there were 10, I put 6 away to take home ;) The chicken was breast meat, a big piece -hot, juicy and perfectly fried. Meat was tasty. Batter was crispy, not limp like some I have tried. The shrimp are large (typically Argentine ones are) and weren't overcooked. Tender and delicious. Hard to do perfectly when battered and fried! The craft beer menu looked tempting, will try when I return with friends. I asked for hard cider but they were just out of Angry Orchard :/ This place is perfect for an afternoon stop for lunch or a quick dinner. Prompt friendly service. A plus is an outlet at every table.
