Time for an update! A lot has changed since 2017. We have a new favorite appetizer - It's a flatbread that is made with naan, and includes sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese, balsamic glaze, and sashimi grade salmon, with some shredded greens. O M G! The flavors on this one just pop! The feta works with the naan, which is firm enough to support the toppings without being crisp or hard. The flavors blend together so well, it may very well displace our prior favorite, spicy battered cauliflower. On to the main course. My wife selected their shrimp tacos, which provided 4 tacos on white tortillas, with sour cream and guacamole. She really enjoyed the flavor. I tried the new Greek burger, which was a burger with red onions, feta again, and a large burger I ordered medium rare which actually came medium rare. The feta worked with the other flavors and that burger was GOOD. Very tasty, very tender, and it went down well. For drinks, my wife had their Tito's Mule, and I had their Dogfish Crimson Cru, both of which were very good. Service was prompt and attentive. The restaurant has an old west / USMC ambiance, that works well. The staff and the menu changes are definitely on par with changes in the past - that add value and taste. If you haven't tried Remington's yet because it is in downtown Malta (blink - you missed it), I'm here to tell you, this continues to be a gem where you can get some really excellent food. read more

This place is very cool. I did t get to eat anything as we had eaten shortly before but we tried the peach whiskey with lemonade and Stella. Stella is just Stella but that cocktail was really good. The bar is very well put together, clean, hip, everything it should be. The bartender was great: friendly, knowledgeable, good positive interaction with everyone. Definitely a place to stop and enjoy. It's not far from aurora so a day trip is doable. Come see them! read more

As our annual apple picking trip brings us to Malta, IL there is always a question on what and where do we eat? A friend pulled out his phone and said there is a gastropub a couple minutes away so lets try it. Well, our party was about 13 people and it included 5 kids and a person in a wheelchair. Not only was the place ADA accessible but it was accommodating for larger party. Food was given a thumbs up by all and the craft beer list was nice, short and not pricey. Besides my burger being medium instead of med-rare it was very nice and super tasty. The hummus was awesome and so was the salsa. Quite the gem of a place in the middle of Malta IL. I know this place will be included as a post apple picking food stop for us from now on. read more

Delicious small little pub. The food was fresh and so good. The fried chicken was a fresh piece of chicken fried to perfection with a delicious chipotle Mayo and pickled onions. The burger was cooked just right and the cheese curds were delicious. It is very small inside, but cozy. They had some good drinks too. read more

For being in the middle of nowhere, this place is surprisingly good; no jokes here. Prior to walking in and by the views around us, we thought we were going to have microwave fish sticks and stale bread. When we walked it, it was very nice, World Cup was on, and we had ourselves some super fresh and tasty chips and salsa. I ordered a salad and it was smothered with grilled bbq chicken. I'm not saying anything about the bbq, but that salad was massive and top notch. I'll have to say this is probably the best bar/gastropub in at least 5-10 miles. If you're ever stuck out there, then do yourselves a favor and eat there. read more

insanely good food in one of the most unsuspecting locations I've ever seen. It sits inbetween a bunch of abandoned buildings in a very old downtown in a town that's seemingly in the middle of nowhere. You step inside and you'd think you're in the north side of Chicago or something. Fairly decent beer menu but the food is where it really shines. Some of the best chicken wings I've ever had and the hummus, given the location, was pretty damn good. Definition of diamond in the rough! read more

The food was your typical bar food. Pretty much all deep fried. It tasted good but too greasy for my liking. Their ranch dressing is amazing. We did order cheese curds and onion rings which were great in the ranch. There was only one employee working so the service was rather slow, however, our server was very friendly. read more

My husband and I came to Remingtons frequently when we worked near by in 2018-2019. Any time we come to Dekalb, we like to stop at Remingtons! The food is delicious and so are the drinks. We went this weekend before a concert at NIU and had great wraps, the cheese curds are always amazing, and some great drinks. Nick, our server, was absolutely wonderful. So kind! We went to visit a nearby farm and stopped by here for a dinner afterwards. We had to sit outside due to COVID precautions. The place got filled with people with pretty much every table taken. We ordered two burgers and boneless chicken wings. While the burgers and fries were delicious, the wings were not unfortunately. The wings were too small and way too hard and just looked plain sad on the plate. The service was also slow as it looked like there was only one server taking care of all the tables. read more

My friends and I were nearby at a pumpkin patch and apple orchard but wanted to get lunch elsewhere (too crowded, too pricey, etc.). Being out close to Dekalb, for us, is like being in the country. We all live in Chicago and this is like 90 minutes west of us so it definitely feels middle-of-nowhere-ish. We busted out the trusty Yelp app and found the little town of Malta nearby with a cute little downtown and some restaurants. We were surprised this place was so highly reviewed so we knew we had to try it. When we arrived, everyone was friendly and we were seated immediately. Drink orders were taken quickly and suggestions made by our server. We had a couple of things to share since it was high brunch time (some breakfast and lunch items) and we loved everything. The eggs were great, biscuits and gravy delicious (and came with extra biscuits!), Bloody Marys were spicy, coffee was hot and unlimited. We clearly judged a book by its cover when we were looking for a place to eat - we couldn't imagine such a tiny town would have such a great place to eat and we were totally wrong. I loved everything we had here and the prices were great. I would definitely return if I find myself at the apple orchard again because this is a much nicer spot to warm up and relax after walking around picking apples all morning than the orchard itself. Had to drive to Peoria for work and my guy tagged along. On drive back home we were hungry and decided to check reviews for a bite. This place had great reviews so we stopped. There really wasn't much to choose from to be honest. Definitely a local hang out spot. It's got some character, warm vibe and cozy - not your typical dive. Our waitress was really friendly. If you're a beer fanatic, they have a pretty great selection of IPA's, drafts, bottles. I'm not a big beer drinker, but ordered the Elysian Space Dust IPA - the name really called out to me and it was good!! Beer buzz! Some crafty cocktails and large wine selection too. Happy hour Tue-Fri 3-6pm. They even serve breakfast, how bout that? Menu is above average pub food. House specials like french onion soup, bluegill, sirloin steak, tuna, wings, wraps, crab cakes, fish tacos, brisket, fried chicken, salads, sandwiches, burgers. Had to try the fried avocado app. Meh. Small avocado pieces, batter was over salty. Overrated. Our server said it was great. I'd pass on this. Really wanted the Bistro truffle burger..doesn't that sound delicious? I thought so too. Black truffle, fresh ground angus short rib and chuck. Our waitress said they make it in house. So when I ordered it, she came back and said they were out and no longer serving it and they needed to update the menu. Huh? but you just said....? Wait...whaat? No truffle burger for me! I was bummed and went with the Remington burger. Cheddar and fried onion ring with their 'secret sauce'. Asked for it on the side and it was all over my burger. Had a hot kick too. It overpowered the whole damn burger. Burger itself was average. We shared Hardwood smoked wings tossed in garlic parmesan & carolina sauce. They were decent. Couldn't really detect 'smokiness'. Carolina sauce has a kick for those of you who can't handle heat...made me glisten a little too. They should state heat levels on their sauces. He had the Smokey beer brisket sandwich, sliced brisket with slaw. Not super tender and somewhat dry. With minimal choices in surrounding areas, this place isn't bad. Our server was nice, but getting our check and waiting for her to return took at least 25 min. Wasn't packed, but started to get LOUD. Lots of great reviews here, wonder if they're written by locals. OK eats and not a bad place to try if your in the area, or just want to guzzle down some beer and cocktails. read more

If you're at all close by and need either a beer or food, you go here. In Malta, options are few. Sure, you can go to Dekalb or Sycamore down the road and grab whatever chain you'd like. But, this is a gem. The term gastropub has a negative connotation for me. I picture trendy, overpriced, and douchy bars. Remington's is the opposite in terms of atmosphere. Small town, low key, but clean. The service is casual and the place has maybe a dozen tables plus bar. The food is great. The smoked wings are unreal. I got mine with a dry rub and a couple sauces on the side. The beer list will satisfy anyone looking for a craft beer out here. Honestly, I drink a ton of craft beer and this place has an insane list. Beers like PseudoSue, 1Z Enuff, and more highlight the list. In summary: great food, not trendy, low key, good beer, go here. read more

I am in Rochelle for the evening and consulted my trusty Yelp app. this restaurant/pub had rave reviews , and well deserved they had a wide variety of craft beers to choose from and the menu, though not extensive, was filled with interesting choices. I was in the mood for a steak, and I was not disappointed. Done perfect for me, which is medium rare. the spinach was good but a tad salty. the mac n cheese was very tasty, but had an unusual combination of pastas. I found what appeared to be rigatoni, and a thin sheet- almost like a lasagna noodle that wasn't cut right from the extruder. no matter- tasty and cheesy. i selected a soup over the salad as a starter. Another excellent choice. A hot creamy chicken with rice. Just perfect for a cold day. read more

My fiancé and I found this place when it randomly popped up on my Facebook, so we made a Sunday afternoon trip to Malta (about a 45min drive for us) to try the place out. Atmosphere: 3 stars. The outside was off-putting and almost had us turning around before we had even walked in the door. It seriously looked like a rundown shack. The inside however was quaint and small with nice decor. BUT the TVs (I think there were four of them in that small space) were set at very loud volume which made it hard to have a conversion. The gaming machines were barely noticeable over the roar of the Discovery Channel. Our waitress was SO sweet and nice but very busy since she was the only person working other than the unseen kitchen staff. She was bartending, bussing, waiting tables, answering the phone, and cleaning up all by herself. She did a great job but our service was a little slow and sloppy because she was so overwhelmed. Food: 4.5 stars. We shared the elote bites and the bacon wrapped meatballs with the blackberry BBQ. Absolutely delicious with so much flavor. I would have eaten all the elote bites by myself if I could have! Fiancé had the truffle burger with house fries, while I opted for the classic grilled cheese (five cheeses plus tomato on sourdough!) with a side of Mac and cheese. Both were fabulous. The fries were a little boring because, well, fries, but they were crispy and fluffy so we can't complain too much. All in all, we're glad we came out here. We will absolutely be back, and hope for more wait staff and softer TV volume to bump the experience all the way up to a five star meal. read more

I write this review with part sorrow. Remingtons has been a hidden gem for the locals. Whenever we have friends in town, Remingtons is typically our favorite place for dinner. Unfortunately the best things in life are rarely kept secret for long. Have refrained from a written review out of selfishness. The drink selection- outstanding. Many great opportunities to try new things. Service- always welcoming. They go above and beyond to make sure you have a great time. And they don't try to rush you out. Menu- simple. One sheet front and back. Everything on it is just well done. They use real ingredients. Our favorites: Soup! The potato and bacon one is just top notch. But we also love the chicken rice. They actually have chunks of chicken. Salad- if we do feel like being healthy, their salads aren't the crappy prebagged iceburg junk. Fav burger- the BBQ pork burger. It's just fantastic. The BBQ pork is a good representation of how they are thoughtful in what they are putting on your plate. Alt fav entree- the steak! Seriously ask them for the feature steak. You can't go wrong. They cook it beautiful. (Huuuuuuge fan of their ribeye) My husband loves their regular steak. I think I would prefer more seasoning. But to each their own. Fav side- baked Mac and cheese. Dude.... I could eat this all day. Definitely does not come out of a box If we could change anything: Would like to see fresh cut French fries as a side A dessert option would be cool- but not totally needed In the winter months, have more selection of warmed beverages. Example mulled wine, hot buttered rum. Trivia night- just because we don't dine out all the time. So yeah, everything is good at Remingtons. But do not go here. We found it first! I went on a Friday night with my Mom to try the fish fry. We got lucky at about 6:30ish and got 2 seats at the bar right away. Choices for the fish were cod,perch or trout if I remember right. I had cod and it was amazing. The batter was light, almost tempura like, and very well seasoned. All three good sized pieces of fish were cooked absolutely perfectly, very moist and super flavorful. The chips part was good too, nice crispy fries with fluffy innards complimented the fish really well. The rest of the menu looked interesting too so I'd like to come back here again to try out some more stuff. The alcohol selection was impressive as well. I think there were 5 or draft beers along with wine and a full liquor bar. I'm looking forward to returning and trying out some of the other interesting menu items. read more

I would definitely give it 5 stars if they weren't out of several of the beers we wanted to order. Luckily they have a great beer selection and we were easily able to find good alternatives. It seems like the drought might be due to heavier than expected demand which is a good sign, because the food is FANTASTIC!!!! And it's great to see new business in Malta. It is worth the drive for anyone in surrounding communities. They definitely have a keeper of a chef. I ordered the fish tacos and I am a fish taco fanatic. I've had fish tacos at six different restaurants in DeKalb County and none can compare to these! There were so many awesome looking dishes on the menu that it was hard to decide. We will definitely be going back. Food is top rate and beer selection is very good - as long as they can keep it in stock. read more

Fabulous place. Slightly hard to find, but worth it once you do. The Chopped Pork Sammie is our go to sandwich along with the Elotes (You have got to try). Severs are very pleasant and welcoming. Seating is limited and not sure if they take reservations. I will be back and highly recommend. read more

What a great little surprise out in a little town! Menu was great, all sorts of healthy alternative. Got three choices of fish for the Gish fry and you could get it grilled as well as fries. This is a gem for a the tiny hamlet of Malta Illinois. My wife and I went in on a busy weekend night and we're lucky to get a table. The servers were hard working and rushed but attentive. The beer selection is novel but could use a few more wheat selections (personal bias). The cheese curds are for real and I had the bluegill. It had a fantastic light cornmeal breading and was not fishy at all. Good bluegill can be hard to get and this was spot on. I highly recommend this place. They've clearly put some thought, time and attention to the menu. read more

where in town for a baseball tournament and looked for places to eat since we had 3 hrs in between games and found this little gem. The unique menu didn't disappoint the food was awesome even though they ran out of pickled onions for the fried chicken sandwich. The sever was incredible as we brought the whole team and took up every table in the place and half the bar. we travel as a team and eat out all the time and by far she was THE BEST server we have ever had. the owner showed up about 30 min after we arrived and jumped right in and made sure we had a great experience. the kitchen staff did a amazing job as well getting food out a good pace, even with 13 families orders coming in at the same time. Ok so I ate here with a best friend of mine and his two parents. I had just gotten my wisdom teeth pulled a few days ago and here I was, peer pressured by my friend's parents to eat this big delicious cheeseburger of sorts that I ordered myself because I'm a dumbass but yeah I ate it and it was in fact delicious and so for that it's a 3 because also I don't remember all too well how it tasted. Honestly yeah I'll change it to a 4. Nevermind it'll remain a 3 until I go back there for round 2 but until then...! -Derek BS Ps: upon review of the review I realized I forgot to mention the price. This seems like a really nice place and I was excited to stop in, as we were passing through...but unfortunately, it must have been an off night for the kitchen. Honestly, the 3 stars are for the waitress/bartender who was very sweet and working her tail off. My sandwich was just ok, and actually had to be sent back to the kitchen, because it came out cold. A grilled cheese with barely grilled, soggy bread and cheese slices that weren't melted at all. My daughters mac and cheese was flavorless and cold. We probably won't try it again, but from other reviews, it looks like it is usually pretty good. read more
