This is the 2nd time I've been to Nate's Imports Service and am so grateful again (my 1st review ended up in the non-recommended reviews). Based on a picture of my engine, my brother was pretty certain I had a valve cover gasket leak and so I went to Nate to get that fixed, get an oil change, and an engine tune-up. He not only informed me that there was no leak, but he also ended up charging me less than the quote he gave me for the other repairs due to finding less expensive parts. My Toyota RAV is running so much better. I can't say enough good things about him, his work, and his integrity. He is incredibly trustworthy, won't do work that you don't need, will give you DIY information for keeping your car running better, and will give you a great price on repairs and parts. Nate saved me $223, and I didn't even use him to fix my car. Basically, Nate had no incentive to help me, outside of being a decent human. If you want to know the story, it's below. But that's the takeaway. You can trust him. You should go there. He knows his stuff. I brought in my car to another mechanic close to my home because it was leaking coolant. They gave me an estimate of $1,600. I asked specifically what parts they were replacing and what parts were broken. I was suspicious of the number when I called my dad (who has been fixing my car for the last 10 years) and he said he felt like that was outrageously high. I got a recommendation from a friend to call Nate. I asked if I could get a quote and said I couldn't bring my car to him since I had already approved the cost and they had already started fixing my car at the other place. Nate still took time out of his day to look up the cost of every part and gave me an estimate for the entire job. It was significantly cheaper than what I was being quoted. I called the other place back and told them I had gotten a much cheaper quote from Nate. Nate then got multiple phone calls from the other mechanic and they talked about where they got the parts from (same place) and what Nate's estimate included. Flash forward to when I finally receive my invoice. It's $223 cheaper than my initial quote. The other guy switched around his labor costs to more closely match Nate's quote. But even still..Nate's quote was still cheaper than what I paid. The whole time Nate talked/texted me, he told me how to look up the cost of parts, what website to use, and how to google to know exactly how much repairs should cost. He basically helped me become an informed customer and told me to keep those mechanics honest! I've been dealing with multiple mechanics here in Denver and I've never trusted one until now. I still haven't paid Nate a dime. The only thing I can do for now is tell my story and hope he gets some more customers from it. Nate is trustworthy and does a great job. My 97 Toyota Rav4 needed a new water pump. Not only did he give me a great deal on the work, but he also let me buy my own parts to save money and told me what parts to buy and where to get them. One of the parts I missed when buying parts and he supplied it and gave me the wholesale cost of it. He also talked me through what needed to be done and pointed out things under the hood. As a woman with minimal car knowledge, it can be challenging to find a mechanic that you trust. I trust Nate and after this one experience with him, I will never go back to the big Toyota repair shop I was going to that overcharged me, did work that didn't need to be done, and ended up causing issues. It's just Nate doing the work so you may need to wait to have work done, but it's worth it. Don't go anywhere else! read more

nates is a great place to get your ride fixed. its small and personal-doesnt look like much but looks can be decieving. nate is a great mechanic and hes honest. i was worried about finding a reliable and mechanic when i moved to denver but after having nate work on my vehicles i dont worry anymore. i took my car to a bridgestone for a new tire and alignment because it was close to where i was working that day and they quoted me something like 300 for a new tie rod, tire and alignment. i took it to nate and he replaced the tie rod bushing for 60 and refered me to an alignment shop that charged 30. by the end of it i had saved about 150 from the original estimate from those big box repair places-screw those guys! w the overhead they run they have to rip you off! read more

I'm a longtime Yelp reader, but I've never posted my own review -- until now, because Nate is just so freaking awesome. We've taken all of our cars to Nate for a few years now. The work is top notch, the prices are amazing and he is HONEST -- a quality that seems to be lacking in many in the car repair biz. We just bought a used car in Ft. Collins. We had it checked out by a mechanic up there before purchasing and he quoted $4,000 in needed repairs. I know....you're thinking 'the car needed $4,000 in repairs and you bought it anyway???' Yes...because we knew our next stop would be Nate. Sure enough, Nate did the repairs for $1,900 and even told us that some of the more complex/expensive repairs that the Ft. Collins mechanic said the car needed was simply not necessary. Nate is a man of few words, the shop isn't too pretty and the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but he really is a fantastic find. read more

We feel very fortunate to have found Nate's Import Service. We have used him exclusively for years and he is always honest and reliable. One of my favorite times with him is after we bought a VW bus. The bus was known to have starting problems, which we found out, oh, 3 minutes after money changed hands. We replaced every single part of the starting system - the lines, the starter, the ignition switch. The problem is that the spark has to travel from the front to the back of the bus and sometimes there's not enough oomph to get there (yes this is the chick version of the story). We searched the internet over and over and found promises of a starter that was custom modified for VW buses, but was not available (maybe next year, though).... The whole thing was a nightmare and we were sad. We had our dream bus and were scared to take it out of the city. If we went to the mountains or parked it anywhere, it had to be on a hill so we could jump start it if we had to. And you do not want to sleep in a bus on a hill. But! Nate to the rescue! My husband mentioned this problem off hand to him when he was working on our other vehicle. Nate not only knew exactly what the problem was, but he knew how to fix it. Apparently there is some sort of relay switch you can put in the middle to make sure it gets to the starter. He fixed this for a reasonable price and we have never had a problem starting it since then. We are indeed happy campers (sorry could not resist). :) read more

Nate is THE best! I found out about Nate from a coworker who is Puerto Rican and goes to Nate because Nate is not just Puerto Rican, but honest and a great mechanic. I have a '79 Volkwagen beetle that Nate can and has fixed anything and everything on, and inexpensively. Last week, my coworker said "Hey Nate told me to tell you he found you some mirrors." To which I replied, "I love that guy." My side mirrors were so old and funky I decided to replace them. I made a big mistake going to NuVintage, who sold me some cheap crap replacement mirrors, one of which fell off almost immediately and the other of which rattles out of the position you set it at after about two blocks, so is essentially useless. I'm headed for Nate's this week for new (used) mirror replacement, a tune up and an oil change. read more

I went to Nates for a rear brake job. It was my first time there. Nate was very helpful and honest. When was the last time you heard of a mechanic calling you and telling you that you DIDN"T need the work done. He informed me that the pads still had a year left on them. Nate is more than fair and reliable , it is where I take our Subaru. As a female entering a garage, I expect a little high balling, over explaining and for stuff to be really broken. I moved to Denver 7 yrs ago and have an "unusual" RHD / diesel landcruiser that I keep good care of. Nate was recommended from the online reviews I did in 2011 for some electrical things and that first visit was stellar, as have the returns for anything else I needed. I compared prices on everything I've done, as well as the time and the quality of the work and hands-down, Nate kills it. Since moving here in 2011, I've made friends with several import mechanics specializing in higher-end, unusual vehicles and who do work on the 'usual cars' when time permits. EVERYONE regards Nate as one of the best: I learned from other mechanics that he was one of the original injection specialists in the country, trained by VW. Now of course everyone does injection but Nate's reputation has carried over and continues to be stellar. That all said, I HAVE taken my rig elsewhere when Nate moved his shop from downtown to further south, but I've returned and put the effort in to get my rig to him when I need something. Nate also has put me in touch with an amazing transmission specialist (Jorge) who figured out I had the weirdest and unheard of trany issue - the local Toyota dealers were utterly useless to diagnose it - but it required Jorge to remove the whole trany and open it up to get at, but he fixed it for less than me renting a car for the week I left my rig with him. I have the photos and video he kindly sent me to keep me aware of what the issue was and the progress, and my mechanic friends are as amazed as me that he found the issue, not just fixed it. I am so glad to have been referred to Nate to fix my Dot! I am new to Denver and my Father usually would work on my car back home, finding Nate was like finding my super skilled and awesome Uncle to help me out. He delivered exactly what I needed done, came in under the quoted price and even fixed an extra bulb in my tail light that I did not even ask him to do but it needed to be done. It is so refreshing to find an automotive place that is not trying to up sell me or talk to me like I don't know things because I am a female. Nate is a great, trustworthy mechanic. . He had my car fixed within two hours, and when I got there to pick it up he dropped everything to show me what he did. He also looked at a number of other things and had a list of recommended repairs ready. Finally, he took the time to explain things I may need done in the future and gave me a number of options including websites to buy parts online where necessary. I always dread having to take my car to the shop because I never know what's going on. Nate was entirely transparent about the process from this repair to others I asked about. Nate is a great mechanic, especially for an older car that you're just trying to keep alive for a few more years. I never have to worry about him doing unnecessary work. He often finds ways to fix things inexpensively: simply cleaning and lubricating parts if they don't need to be replaced, finding parts from the scrap yard. Nate is the best! My husband and I have been bringing our 12-year-old+ Audi A4 to Nate for years. We have not only found Nate to be extremely honest and well-priced but he is a very good mechanic. The best example I have of this is from when he fixed a problem we'd been having with our starter.Over and over again, our "winter edition" Audi refused to start in very cold weather, which is a horrible problem for a car you bought to be your ski car. We discovered this problem when our car was still under the dealer warranty. Despite giving us an entirely new starter, even the Audi dealer mechanics were stumped and could not fix this problem, as was the case with other mechanics we had look at it. Years later, when we finally found Nate, we mentioned it to him. Sure enough, Nate had it fixed within a week and we've never had problems with the car starting in cold weather again. Nate charged us a very reasonable amount to fix this problem even though he told us he had to spend a fair bit of time researching the problem online and talking to associates of his. This place is awesome. I call to get my electrical issue fixed. Same day fixed. $75 for stop light fix. A bulb goes out that i'm not aware of. I drop by without calling it's fixed same day again. Outstanding service beyond any dealer or ISO cert place. This is my guy! read more
