We received a friendly welcome at the door and the evening was pleasant from appetizers through dessert. The food was excellent.

I recently visited Nataz-Clinton twice in the past 3 weeks, both times could have been much better. They were sending wait staff home because of cancelled reservations and our service was slow, interrupted and at times non-existent. It was quite annoying, since I thought this establishment was supposed to be a "step up". The food would have been better if the side dishes were served hot, my mashed potatoes weren't even lukewarm and the steak was moderately heated. I had gone to the original Nataz in North Branford, probably 10-15 years ago and it was great. Since they've opened multiple locations, their lure has gone. I did my due diligence and tried the Clinton location twice, I will not be going back. read more

We've been here five times since July 2021. Covid handled perfectly with distant tables. Excellent prix fixe four course meal for $35. BYO with $3 corkage feel. Terrific and broad menu with evening specials. Open Wed. thru Sunday for dinner. Food is beautifully prepared and served by attentive yet authentic staff in a fornmer bank building across from the Clinton Post Office. Blink and you'll miss the small brass sign to the right of the entrance, but trust me, it's there. Start with a cheese board and some small amuse bush. Amount tailored to group size. Served with delicious bread. Then a custom salad, both the special and traditional salads are great. Main courses include fish, braised selection, chicken, pasta and various prime steaks. We love the Tomahawk steak for two. Much can be taken home. Portoin is huge. Vegetables and starch included. End with a dessert try with five or six small selections. More than you need. They add a well-deserve 20% service charge shared with all staff. Even if you round up with an additon $5 tip, it's $100 for two When does that happen for a very fine meal in a lovely setting. The food that I received was great. The "grazing cheese platter" never materialized. We waited about 40 minutes with nothing but water. The cocktails we ordered arrived after our salads. The bacon on my wedge salad was black. The delmonico steaks were excellent, perfectly cooked and rare. Vegetable portion was for a rodent. Then Martin Sexton's voice came over the speakers. I was so happy they opened a location so much closer to me! It has the same delicious food and menu, the same BYOB policy, just in a sweet, new space. The building was actually a bank. They use the vault for their meats. It is really cool to see! There are a few tables downstairs where the kitchen is. Upstairs there are more tables with a nice view of them bustling down below, working their magic in the kitchen. This place also has a large, private room upstairs for events or large parties. The restaurant is smaller than the North Branford location, so when we dine here a reservation is almost always necessary. I absolutely love seeing Rick and his daughters at the other location as well, but the staff here are wonderful too. I still have yet to hit the Southington site, but I have to admit that my motivation has decreased now that I have one in my backyard! read more

Nataz is I n the the old Clinton Savings Bank, it hard to spot due the the lack of signage. This is of no fault of the owners, there is a technicality with the town regarding an old stipulation around zoning. The food, service and atmosphere are amazing. This is a fixed price menu, cheese board, salad, entrees and dessert are included. It BYOB, beer, wine or you can bring any liquor you chose, don't forget your mixer. The fried calamari is tender and served with spicy and delicious sauces. The salads are crisp and are full of tasty accompaniments, The entrees are well varied and amazing, selections from seafood, beef, chicken and more. They make their own wonderful desserts, the only issue is choosing which one. You won't regret choosing Nataz or a very good meal. Reservations are recommended, they also have a meals at home menu for ordering ahead and scheduling a pick up time. read more

My wife and I took 4 friends visiting us from Los Angeles to dinner at Nataz in Clinton. Knowing that Nataz is a BYOB restaurant, we purchased Champagne and wine to celebrate an engagement and a birthday. The website never notified us that the restaurant was no longer BYOB and when my wife called to ask that they make an exception based upon the absence of notice, the person with whom she spoke said, "Sorry, but No". No problem for us, since we have enjoyed dining here and would try their wine and cocktails. The first thing we noticed upon being seated was that the usual wait staff group was not present. In fact, we didn't see anyone who had served us in the past. Our waiter was very nice and polite, but seemed stressed due to what was clearly an "understaffed" evening - he had too many tables. They are clearly still getting used to having a liquor license, as the cocktails we had ordered to start took forever to arrive and came out 2 at a time. The poor woman who brought them out could barely carry the tray and asked us to pass them out. To add insult to injury, the featured cocktails were not very good. The food was overly seasoned - my wife had the meatloaf and it was so seasoned that you couldn't taste meat, which could have been anything. My swordfish was a little "fishy" tasting and uninspiring. I left a third of it on the plate. The desserts were poorly presented on one large plate and seemed to have been thrown on the plate like a Hometown Buffet. The issue regarding the gratuity was also puzzling. It was clearly explained to us before dinner that a 20% gratuity would be automatically added to the check. That's fine and we added significantly to that because, as frantic and disorganized it all seemed, our waiter and his support staff were definitely trying their best. Hopefully, the owners are making sure that the wait staff receives the gratuity. A class action suit was recently filed in Los Angeles against the very popular restaurant, Jon & Vinny's in Brentwood. The restaurant placed a paragraph at the bottom of their checks that states that an 18% service fee is charged not as a tip or gratuity, but rather to "facilitate a higher base wage for all of [their] employees". So, it is a fee controlled completely by the restaurant. Let's make sure that the same thing isn't happening here. We'll give this place another go in a month and see what we find. We would hate to lose what has been a great place and within walking distance of our home. read more

Easter Dinner Take out.... Exceptional in a word. Quite remarkable serving sizes we tried both the traditional Ham and the Lamb. While I don't claim to be a restaurant critic and haven't out very often since Covid we will definitely be back as our meals were memorable. read more

We arrived for dinner with our reservations and were surprised that there were no customers, unusual because we had dined there before on Sunday and it was usually fairly crowded. When we sat down, we got the menus and it was the same menu as in the past. But when the waitress came to take our order, we were informed about a $10.00 surcharge on some items. I wondered because the menu started "price fix" with no indication (menu insert) about this extra charge. We ordered and when the salad came, it was not freshly made in my opinion. The main course was served and on the Delmonico steak order the mashed potatoes were cold, the squash was half cooked, and the steak had a sauce that was questionable due to the person ordering having Celiac disease. My wife (who has celiac) got very sick from the dinner, if was gluten or bacteria, we are not sure. But she was very sick all night long and the next day. Sadly this was a high end Restaurant when it first opened but it has gone downhill. read more

Beautiful building on the outside, but generic eatery downstairs. Waitstaff was completely indifferent. Price fix salad was uninspired and cheese was supermarket standard. Steaks were terrific and perfectly cooked, but sides were again uninspired. Has the potential to be a really nice eatery, but the waitstaff needs to at least pretend to care and the easy stuff - sides and salads - need to be more than diner quality. read more

Incredible experience! We took our parents out for their anniversary. The food is to die for! Not only is the food amazing, however the staff and head chef were very personable and engaging. The head Chef Rick came over to our table to get to know us personally, and offered us an extra appetizer (a yummy vodka marinara sauce ravioli) to make up for an initial slow start to attending to our table. The ambiance and decor is better than one you would see in a big city like New York or Boston. We are already planning our next date here! read more

One of our favorite places to go eat. Steak is always cooked exactly to your liking and the food in general is always phenomenal! As for the service, out of the 10 times or so we've been there in the last 2 years, we have yet to have bad service. Not to mention, we've been there in a party as large as 10 and as small as 2, yet the service continues to be unparalleled. The restaurant has a nice ambience which is very inviting, chairs are extremely comfortable, and the steak knives are awesome! Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere! My boyfriend and I sat on the second floor and were able to see the chef cooking our food in the kitchen. We were pleased to see how clean everything was and the care that was clearly put into our dishes! Started off with the imported cheese plate (delicious), the calamari (excellent bite and many flavors), the signature salad (could be its own meal), and then I got the heavenly and he got the zuppa! We have all eaten in the North Branford location many times going back to the old location. The food was always excellent. Our friends surprised us by taking us to the new Clinton location. Here is what happened: John was our waiter. He was fantastic. We each ordered the following and our reaction: We were at the 8:15PM seating, which for seniors is late. Should have gone to the earlier seating. The restaurant was not full but our dinners came about 30 minutes after we ate the delicious signature salad. By then it was about 9:15PM. Two of us had the Scallop dinner. FYI they came 7 minutes before the other dinners. The two of us who ordered the scallops said the dinner was good, no one raved. Had better at other shoreline places. The third order was the Hangar Steak on my recommendation. In the past we would get a whole steak. Her dinner had cut up pieces of meat! She was not happy. I tasted a piece and had no reaction. I ordered the veal chop with panko. It was so overcooked that I could NOT cut it with the sharp knife John gave me. Had almost no flavor at all. I took it home for leftovers. The panko made a tough exterior. I like a veal chop in sauce. The pasta was so al dente that I didn't eat it. There should have been more sauce on the chop and pasta! Or, cook the chop in a demi glaze so you can taste it. This tasted like a frozen chicken patty. Finally the dessert. The cheesecake was so dry I could barely take a forkful and had to wash it down with coffee ($3 for a small cup). I like a soft creamy cheesecake like we get in NYC. This was far from it. Because it was so late by the time the food came none of us said anything to John or the manager, just wanted to get home. I hope this email will help you to improve the Clinton location. read more

Had a wonderful dinner last night. The restaurant is beautifully decorated for the holidays. We sat on the lower level seating is very comfortable and nice ambiance. Our server Ashley was very attentive and explained all the specials. We started with the assorted cheese plate served with crostini and grapes. Presentation was really nice with 4 different cheeses, the perfect amount for 2 of us to share. We both had the wedge salad with applewood smoked bacon, blue cheese and homemade buttermilk ranch dressing which was delicious. For entrees I had the seared ahi tuna which is my usual go to. It is always cooked perfectly with a sesame crust and seared rare with a seaweed salad, rice and Vegetables. My husband had the whole bronzino. He said it was fantastic, stuffed with lemon and fresh herbs also served with rice and vegetables. If that wasn't enough we had flourless chocolate cake and lemoncello marscapone sponge cake for dessert. If you haven't been to Nataz yet, you are totally missing out. The Clinton restaurant is the place to be. Chef Ricky does a fabulous job as well as the rest of the staff. Ricky, Tyler. Liz, Kristie, and Ashley made our night last night.! read more

For Clinton, this is a decent restaurant. When I called for reservations, it took over a week's wait before I could get in. Upon arrival and departure, the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full on a weekend night. That was surprising. Our server was friendly and courteous. The pre-fixe is a good deal with decent options. The cheese course is served family style and was VERY small for 4 people. Their portioning accounted for 2 cubes of cheese per person and a teeny bit of nuts to share amongst each other. Salad course was an average size, but tasty. My filet mignon was not huge compared to what I've received in the North Branford location. That's not a deal breaker for me, but the filet had grizzle on both ends. For me, that was a complete nose turner. Each one of us ordered a different dessert, so we could taste 4 options. My lemon dessert was the best of all of them. The building is beautifully remodeled inside and it's great to see something come to the center that is historically reflective of the old bank that once existed there. With a few minor tweaks, this place could be excellent. FYI- BYOB is a definite perk. However, there is a charge per person for who drinks (no matter if it's wine, beer, or cocktails). read more

Went to Nataz in Clinton ct Wednesday had a great dinner, decided to take my son and his girlfriend today. Called on Saturday when they opened to make reservations, got the answering machine, left a message, it said they can't come to the phone right now but to leave a message and they will get right back to you. I said "I want to make reservations for Sunday 530 left name and number please let me know if you are booked ". Didn't hear back so thought all was good. Today went to Nataz for our 530 dinner reservations. We get there and the matradee looks at the schedule, says I don't see your name looks through some other papers and says "the name sound familiar, oh yeah I got your message but didn't have time to get back to you sorry we can't accommodate you tonight try our other Resturant in north branford" (30mins away) uhm no, mind you I have just come to your Resturant two times in the last 5 days at 35.00 per person!!!!! Remarkable value for the prix fixe menu, and unusual ambiance in a former bank. Some seats permit you to look down into the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. We were a party of two, and each of us enjoyed each course thoroughly. BYOB is also a plus - given the usual 100% markup on any restaurant wine, especially a quality bottle. Plenty of parking. They do need outside signage, but a restaurant of this quality on Main Street in Clinton stands out, and should thrive. We were unable to get a Saturday night reservation, settled for Sunday, and they were still at the top of their game. Hope they can manage their way to sustained success. There are positives and negatives with most restaurants- so here's my experience. Went for the first time with 2 couples. No outside sign or entrance signage to figure out how to get in the place, but we found it. Decor is a bit odd. Had our table ready, gave us a menu. Their shtick is a $35 fixed price 4 course dinner of a shared appetizer, salad, entree and dessert. That's great! But the menu and the specials are so confusing as it's not clear what's "prix fixe" or not. For example, an order of King crab legs was $70. Our waitress told us about a pork special that the chef had spent many hours making. It sounded good, so she gave us a sample. It was totally over-cooked and dry as a bone. We were all glad we didn't order that! We ordered a mozzarella and tomato appetizer to share. It was ok. Tomatoes were hard. The salads were very good (I had the wedge salad that had bacon and blue cheese) and our entrees were good although one entree, a steak, came raw when it was ordered medium. We sent it back to be cooked more, and it came back with a saucy flavor on top like Worcestershire that hadn't been there before. ??? Desserts were ok. Dry. They have these ridiculously huge steak knives that are hard to grip and handle. There's no mirror in the ladies room. Maybe we will try again. Not sure. It's BYOB which is nice. read more

I went there a few weeks ago on a Saturday night with 4 others. Small waiting area up stairs hard on a person with knee problems! Food: the cheese player was good. Brought it out before our clams and oysters, salad was good, I had a veal chop with a six dollar upcharge! Must have cooked frozen not able to eat. Other dinners were a 3 star. Dessert a 2 star. First visit. All six of us left saying when are we coming back. Seated right on time in the mezzanine, first seating. You'll immediately notice the comfortable upholstered chairs. Tables well spaced, never felt like we were part of "the crowd". Wine glasses already on the table, waiter brought ice bucket for the white wine and opened the bottles. Related the specials and left us to decide. Came back with the cheese board. Could have been a little more for six people but good portions and delicious cheeses. Bread and spreads served also. Took our orders. Just as we were finishing the cheese out came the salads. The dressing on the signature salad is to die for, sweet, tangy, sets of the greens and Gorgonzola perfectly. One in the party ordered the croquettes, received four scrumptious servings. Just as the last of our party finished their salad the entries arrived. Beautiful presentation. Rack of lamb medium rare as it should be, nice sauce, one cod special and one salmon special, they loved it, nice portions. Three in the party had the braised pots, no complaints. (Two couldn't finish all of the meat so they asked to take it home. While packing it the kitchen added more mashed potatoes and toppings, nice touch.). Deserts were good, satisfying and again with nice presentation and little added touches. Whole experience was two hours, never felt like we were waiting for the next course but also never felt like we were being rushed for the next seating. If you are looking for a quiet, intimate, romantic dinner find somewhere else. If you are out for a good time with friends this is the place, laughter echoed though out the space, Never felt we were intruding on the table next to us, they were having a great time too.
