I recently had an amazing experience at the Narande Spa at Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes and it was exactly the relaxing escape we were looking for. We booked a couples massage and it was fantastic from start to finish. The massage therapists were professional, attentive, and clearly very experienced. The room was peaceful and comfortable, and the entire experience felt thoughtfully designed to help you completely unwind. It was the perfect way to spend time together while still getting a high-quality spa treatment. My GF also had a facial, which was equally impressive. The esthetician took the time to understand her skin and customized the treatment so it felt both relaxing and beneficial. Her skin looked noticeably refreshed and hydrated afterward, and it was one of the better facials she's had. The spa itself has a calm, tranquil atmosphere and the staff throughout were welcoming and attentive without ever feeling rushed. One small thing to be aware of for couples: the locker rooms are separate, so there isn't a shared space where couples can sauna or shower together before or after treatments. That said, the amenities themselves are very nice, and it didn't take away from the experience. Overall, it was a wonderful visit and a great way to relax and recharge. Asked for deep tissue massage and it was more like just being oiled up, absolutely no focus on tight spots or anything else other than a brief rub down with oil. Nothing is worst than when you have pain and the person massaging makes no effort to actually address the areas. Was also given incorrect pedicure. Added $50+ in service charges. The pedicurist was so delightful and great but the pricing, communication with schedulers and massage was not at all worth it. read more

We called about a month in advance and made reservations, show up day of and they tell us we aren't on the list. The manager never came out to speak with us as we were curious as to how this happened when we confirmed our reservations at a separate time. I asked for the manager to call us back and they never did. It was a pretty disappointing visit and many of my friends and family recommended this place. AMAZING AMAZING massages!!! My sisters and I went to this spa for my birthday and we all enjoyed our time. I had Pia who gave me the best massage of my life. My sister said Tanya gave her the best massage of her life. My other sister had a facial. We booked on a Monday morning for Monday afternoon. This worked out well because no one else was in the spa. The spa and women's locker room is very small. There is one shower, some lockers, a little seating area, and two mirrors. We're really happy we came on a day when no one was there, otherwise this place could've been quite crowded and uncomfortable due to size. We were able to hang out at the swimming pool while we waited for our appointment time. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and perfect (Sept 23rd). We were going to sit in the sauna but it was taking too long for it to heat up so we ended up skipping it. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful Pia was. She gave the most amazing massage! Not only that, she seems to really care about the clients she cared for. My sister has a very large service dog, a European Great Dane. All the staff treated my sister and her dog with respect and even welcomed the dog to the spa. In these days of discrimination, it was a breath of fresh air. The reason the spa did not get five stars was because my sister called multiple times trying to make an appointment and could never get through. Finally this morning, when trying to decide if we wanted to buy a Groupon at this spa or go somewhere else, she was able to speak with a nice young man. She did confirm with him that the phone would be answered if she called back. He kept his word by answering and were glad he did. He was friendly and helpful upon our arrival. Called months ago for my wife to get a prenatal massage on our baby moon trip. Show up only to have the person say that she doesn't do prenatal massages and there is no one else at the time. In their own system it shows her down for a prenatal massage. Both the girl at the front and the masseuse were very unprofessional and made my wife feel like it was her fault for the mess up. When I called back they don't have any prenatal massage for the remainder of our trip. That was the deciding factor we decided to stay at this hotel. read more

Hubby surprised me for my bday with a spa package at Narande Spa - what a wonderfully relaxing experience! Very kind, welcoming staff. The lady at the front desk was attentive and really went out of her way to make me feel special. Once you're inside the spa, it is relatively small but inviting. They have a small, private area for showering, restrooms and changing. I believe there was also a small steam room although I didn't go in. If there had been more than 1-2 people in this area at once, it would have definitely felt crowded. Luckily, I was the only one there at the time so it was great. They provide soap, lotion, spray deodorant, mouthwash, towels, robes and slippers. First portion of my spa day consisted of a massage. It was so relaxing and the masseuse had great pressure. I'm glad she didn't make conversation and allowed me to fully relax and enjoy it. Second stop was a facial. This was only my second facial ever and it was way better than the other one I received at another local spa. The esthetician did a great job communicating and answering any of my questions. She gave great light pressure massages on my face and neck throughout. The steam felt nice and the various products she used smelled delightful. Again, this was only my second facial so I am no expert but I'd definitely return here for my next one! I finished spa day with a pedicure that was fantastic. The nail technician was so friendly and detailed oriented. She did an outstanding job and took her time grooming my feet by scrubbing, exfoliating, applying clay, lotions, special treatments and, of course, a foot massage. Lord knows my feet needed some love. Light, relaxing music plays in each room. Between each service they provide you with fruit infused water. So refreshing! The only reason I'm rating 4 instead of 5 stars is because the spa itself is quite small. It's too bad the architects didn't incorporate any of the beautiful surrounding outdoor space of the hotel - or expand it so that it can comfortably accommodate more people at once. I'm disappointed to have to leave this review, but I would hate for others to experience what my husband and I did. I paid $202.00 for a couples massage via Groupon that gave us access to the Buttes amenities for the day. Pretty nice deal- not too far off from any standard rate couples massage, but we'd been interested in checking out this Marriott location. I spoke with 3 different people in NarandeSpa during booking and asking questions. Over the phone I was advised by Narande Staff that I was all set. No one mentioned a bonus fee of 22%. We first heard of this fee when we arrived and the spa guest ahead of us was balking at an additional $60 upcharge post his and his girlfriend (making assumptions here) had their massages. My husband asked me if I thought it would happen to us, but I showed him how much I paid and how that would be crazy. Sure enough, post our massage while my husband was trying to tip, they asked HIM (he was my guest) to pay over $60- the 22% fee that's assessed against not what you are billed, but the ridiculously overpriced resort spa menu price of $280. Not even the lower "original price" that's listed on Groupon. Not to mention there were several ADDITIONAL "admin fees" at $6.50ea which I already paid on the Groupon itself. That's $26 extra dollars for "admin", people- last I heard that's the cost of doing business. But get this, even my attached Groupon receipt shows I paid $9.36 in tip, too, but to whom? This is a shady way for a company to nickel and dime guests once they are in. Which is insane since the building smelled like mold, the spa slippers were moldy and sharp (plastic slides), and my husband's massage was mediocre. PS, the other amenities we had access to: the grounds, pool and jacuzzi were lovely, but couldn't even get into the fitness center and no staff were available to help. The sauna was only accessed within the spa locker room, so we couldn't enjoy that as a couple (which wasn't clear). The resort is probably fine (kinda moldy smelling near the spa), but stay away from those desperate cash grabbers in the spa. But it's ok, the staff reminded me that the fees were in their fine print. How could I be so dumb?! Lesson. Learned. read more

I had a fantastic experience at the Narande Spa! I was able to book 2 massages using their Groupon for myself and a friend by calling the spa on Wednesday for a Saturday treatment. We ended up having to reschedule the morning of to later that day, as we had gotten a flat tire and couldn't make it on time to our appointment. The staff on the phone was super helpful both during the initial booking and during the reschedule. We were able to use the pool both before and after our massage as part of their amenities. When we arrived there was a locker room/bathroom and we were provided keys to access our own lockers and were given robes to wear. The locker room had a shower and sauna (I did not use either, but they both seemed nice and clean!), along with basic toiletries(mouthwash, towels, hair dryer, etc). There was an attached waiting area that we were asked to sit in while we waited for our masseuse and it has water, some candies and magazines to read while we waited. My masseuse was Tania and she was amazing! She listened to my needs and focused on the areas I mentioned gave me the most issues. She had great communication throughout the length of my treatment and was able to relieve most of the knots in my back that were bothering me, as well as some I didn't even know were there! I have an upcoming trip to Phoenix, and my co-worker and I thought it would be a nice idea to get a massage in the afternoon after a long flight once we checked into the hotel, so that we would sleep well with the time change. I have called this spa 3 times and left messages and still have not gotten a response no matter what time of day I call. They never answer the phone (I have called more than 3 times). I think if Marriott is going to use this spa to represent ammenities at their hotel they may want to think again. Does not bode well for either business on the customer service front. I did call the Hotel, and they just wanted to forward my call to the spa. Makes me wonder if I should change my reservation at the hotel as well? read more

Do not waste your money getting a manicure here. My $75 gel manicure (not including tip) was poor quality. The description on the spa menu states "Experience all the essentials with a beneficial scrub, hand massage, paraffin wax, and polish application" The only thing I got was polish application: no scrub, massage, or wax. By day 5, the gel peeled entirely off two of my nails and was coming off on multiple other nails. I do not recommend the manicure here. read more

I struggled between 2/3 stars but settled on 2. We came here for Spa Week recently and had a rather disappointing experience. First, I do recognize how busy Spa Week can be, especially this Spring because there were so very few spas who participated. That being said, because I do Spa Week twice a year, I also know how other spas are during this busy time. Now I do get how busy it is, I really do. However I've been to 5 star spas during this busy time, and while busy they still make you feel as if you are having a 'spa experience'. This was rushed, automated, and not personable at all. My treatment was mediocre overall. I wasn't blown away with my facial, there were only 3 steps to it with long lulls in between, and the therapist talked a lot. Not a fan of chatty facialists. My friend had a massage and was a bit irritated that HER therapist griped about how much of a pain Spa Week is. She made a point to say that since it was the last of the 10 days of Spa WEek, she was going home and drinking a lot. I get it, but damn, gripe to your coworkers not those of us who are there FOR relaxation. It should be pointed out that we came on the last day of spa week near the end of the day. However, the facilities really should have been kept up more than they were. The tiny locker room was litttered with the disposable cups for mouthwash and such. There were towels everywhere, you name it. Unfortunately the locker room itself was unbelievably small. The locker area is so small, that we had to wait as each guest got into their locker and moved away before you could approach. Two people cannot stand in the locker area. There was seating for 3/4 people only so many of us stood and waited. the water cooler was completely empty. I could go on, but won't. In all, this was a less than par spa visit; but on the bright side since it was Spa Week, our things were only $50. Would I come here and pay full price? No way. read more

An incredibly small spa. Don't expect to relax here all day long. However, my experience was just what I needed. I frequent spas fairly often and have tried higher end and lower end. I've had all types of services. Ben gave me a truly wonderful and unique massage. He asked what I wanted extra attention on and he made sure to do so while still making sure the rest of my body was well balanced. He asked how I was doing and about pressure about 2 or 3 times which was just enough. When I asked for more pressure he added just the right amount. If you're used to and prefer a typical Swedish massage, Ben may not be the person for you. But, if you're looking to really get worked on I recommend asking for him. They have only one shower in the tiny spa area which can be uncomfortable coming out of it when you're naked and people are coming in. The sauna fits about 3 people comfortably but since there was no one in sight I decided to lay down and use it up for myself. There were 2 vanities with minimal amenities (what could you possibly need when you have your hotel room to go back to after wards?) and 2 bathroom stalls. You get a robe inside your locker along with sandals(I opted to keep my own). Prices were reasonable. I think my 80 minute massage was $121 with tax? They have deals during the week but since I was there for the weekend I couldn't take advantage of them. I'd come back again if I stayed at this hotel again which I hope to because it was a beautiful place to stay! read more

I booked a massage through Groupon for my sister and I today to celebrate her birthday. I was very disappointed, I am 36 weeks pregnant and had communicated this well in advance. They advised me they DO accommodate prenatal massages. When I was taken back, I discovered they do not have tables to accommodate pregnant women. They had me lying on my side in a very uncomfortable position on a hard table. He worked on my back meanwhile talking to me the ENTIRE time. Everything BUT relaxing. Then he had me flip over onto my back in order to work on my feet and neck, the table did not raise to a reclining position to accommodate a proper prenatal massage, so the entire time on my back I had the pressure of my growing baby and was just completely even MORE uncomfortable. The massage ended with me feeling worse than I did when I came in. This was not the masseuse's fault at all, it was entirely due to the spa unable to accommodate a proper prenatal massage. After further research I learned they actually charge MORE for prenatal massages to which they are unable to accommodate correctly. I have had massages every 2 weeks since the start of my second trimester and have NEVER ran into this problem with ANY other spa. The Groupon cost me $90 and then they charged me another $30 at the end of the massage. This was never communicated ahead of time. This was an entire waste of time and money for me. I am in so much pain. I do NOT recommend any PREGNANT woman EVER get a massage from this spa until they upgrade their beds in order to accommodate a PROPER prenatal massage!! read more

The sitting room is located right next to the locker area/dry sauna/bathroom. It is hard to relax when someoneis peeing about 10 feet from you. The robes are very thin. Sadly I must give 1 star for my facial, as my skin was burned as a result. Although I paid for a custom facial, when I entered the room, my aesthetician told me that I would be receiving a facial for combination skin. (This she told me without examining my face.) She asked if I had any skin allergies. My face was not cleansed of make up before she began: instead, the aesthetician began the approx 40-min facial massage with one of a combination of products. At one point, having had no communication whatsoever from the aesthetician about what sorts of product she was going to be using for my particular skin type since this was a custom facial, I asked if she was using glycolic, salycitic, or hyaluronic acid, because I noticed my face was tingling. (I use these products regularly.) She said the tingling was good, but my face should not be burning. At that point, my face was not burning. By the end of the facial, however, the area surrounding and underneath my right eye was very sensitive to the touch. Once I arrived home, I saw that area extremely red in color. By the evening, the skin in that area was changing texture, like a burn does. I went to sleep and woke up with a red, scaly patch. I have been moisturizing for two days now, but the burned area is as bright red and scaly as before. I offer this review as a caution to others: if an aesthetician does not even examine your face to determine the appropriate "custom" product to use, buyer beware. And if your face "tingles," or an area becomes sensitive during the procedure, stop right then and there. As for the spa itself, it is teeny tiny small. The sauna was not heated to an appropriate temperature, and the dressing room is only large enough for one person (there is only one shower and two sinks.) The hair dryer did not work when plugged in, and I was left to determine why. That said, the front desk staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and the aesthetician was an excellent masseuse for arms and face. read more

In truth, it is close to 3.5 star instead of four. The spa experience commence with a confirmation and I have called back and asked if I can use the facility. She told me that I am welcome to use all the amenities but it didn't happen. The spa director told me I can use the shower and sauna at the spa but they will have to ask to get a key in order to use the outdoor pool and jacuzzi. She said that she will bring it to me once I am complete with my treatment. They were able to take me in 15 min early since I got called into a meeting at 2PM so that was a nice touch. Once the treatment, director forgot key she had to call the desk and I've waited for about 20 min but no one showed up. She asked me if I still need the pool but I had to go to a meeting soon so I've declined. The facial was good with full extractions as well as two tier facial glosses applied to my face which it felt like I have 5 years of wear and tear lifted off my face. The sauna and the shower was very well equipped with spa quality amenities. Once they got all the kinks out, it is as good as some of the five stars facilities around the globe. read more

I have been going to Narande for many years as part of my visit to Angels Spring Training. I've always had good experiences here, but my therapist today, Jessica, hit it out of the park! I asked for firm pressure, and she applied the perfect amount of pressure. The foot massage was probably the highlight, but it was really all amazing. The Buttes Resort in Tempe, AZ is an amazing feast for the eyes. Beautifully elegant, upscale, tranquil location. Surprisingly, the Narande Spa does NOT match up with its ambience. Just hearing the name of the establishment and I immediately began to conjure up these wonderful images in my head, however, this spa actually seems out of place at this resort. Open the door to the spa and you can immediately see the persons having their pedicures as well as the persons at the check-in desk. The changing room is beyond cramped with NO PRIVACY! The waiting area, separated by only a café style door, is even more cramped . This is NO CHI-CHI Poo-Poo spa, just the bare necessities, so if you are ONLY looking for an AMAZING massage or pedicure then you are in the right place. NO AMBIENCE, just AMAZING massages and pedicures. As a result of the close proximity to the pedicure area and the check-in desk, I suggest you do not expect a quiet massage because you are able to hear all of the chatter from those areas. read more
