I recently completed a state required renewal course for my permit and it was a terrific experience. Phil, Reid and Alaina work as a team to keep all aspects of the eight hour class interesting, informative, and applicable to real-world situations. The day started in the classroom with some familiarization, paperwork, and a few runs through the simulator next door at Shore Shot. This gets everyone loosened up, and I think they use this brief session to check out your basic gun-handling skills - safety is always in the forefront. Before long we headed to the range for the live fire evaluation. At every opportunity the four rules of firearm safety are repeated and modeled. The live fire evaluation is conducted in exact sequence with the SDSO course of fire, but handled in a low-stress way that makes success attainable. Once back in the classroom the information is delivered in a way that keeps everyone involved, and its interactive, and while all of the content is delivered it never feels like you're stuck in some boring traffic school type environment. Sessions with the simulator are interspersed with the classroom sessions. This provides an opportunity to stand up, strap up, and work through de-escalation tactics, shoot/no-shoot situations, multiple threats, and even a vicious dog scenario. The emphasis throughout the day is not on right or wrong answers, but safety and a sincere focus on learning and applying the lessons of the course. Whether you are interested in an intro to firearms class, initial ccw class, ccw renewal class, or any of the other self-defense and security classes they offer, I don't think you'll find a better learning environment than Nanpor. read more

I chose Nanpor for my CCW class merely because the class schedule lined up with my needs and it's only a 10-minute drive from my apartment. Man, did I luck out. On the average day, chained to my desk for 8 hours (that I'm getting paid for) it can feel like prison. Meanwhile, this 8-hour class (that *I* paid to be there for) flew by! Phil made the boring classroom stuff interesting, and the simulator was both informative and entertaining -- even if you're not the one using it. And while at the range, Phil went above and beyond by filming me to illustrate some training issues. This was just the CCW class! I will undoubtedly go back to Nanpor for my renewal. And even without recommending, it Phil has me considering paying for additional classes in the meantime. read more

i have taken a few of their courses, and DO NOT recommend them. they are unknowledgeable and unprofessional in just about everything they do, including teaching the classes. one of the teachers acts like a meth addict, very erratic and nonsensical, while trying to turn the classroom into a stage for his own bad stand up comedy act, instead of just being friendly and normal. the woman who is the receptionist always seems angry and rude, like you are interrupting something important when trying to ask questions. highly unprofessional, and the staff members all strike me as having the intelligence and personal discipline of high school dropouts. read more

Took a CCW course with Reed and Phil. I am deeply impressed with the quality of the course. Without sacrificing safety which is #1, they were able to make the class entertaining and informational. Very hands on and information was what was expected. I learned a great deal and had some laughs along the way. They do everything by the numbers so you are comfortable with step one before you go to step two. All in all a wonderful course and reasonably priced. I needed a place to do training for security and self defense skills. After researching all over San Diego County, I found this place and contacted them. They got me in within a couple days for my required course, well within the time frame to meet my training deadline. Other training sites only have courses set up once or twice a month, which did not fit my time requirements. AND their training FAR exceeded my expectations! When I applied for Nanpor I was excited to work for them, but that quickly changed with all the nepotism and favoritism and they will backtrack on everything, they have no integrity or accountability, unless you have it in writing they are not to be trusted. As I was a contractor hired by them they will act like they are your primary employer until you get laid off and try to apply for unemployment they don't know you and will be rude to you. Especially Janet she will plays dumb, just like they did with my Federal Background Investigator saying that a person never worked for them, but worked for their partner Stratus and Stratus did the same. A person only worked for them for a whole year, even the background investigator said both companies contradict one another. If you interviewed a person, make that person, assign posts, had that person do mandatory training and over seen your job performance you employed a person. They have no accountability or loyalty to those they hire unless your related and you kiss ass. read more

I've been taking training classes at Nanpor for roughly 8 years and am currently working armed security at a bank. I can testify that Phil is very serious about instructing his students in all aspects of the security field -- especially w/regard to making sure that his charges get the information about the law that they'll need. During shooting qualifications Phil and Reed are alert and fastidious, making sure that safety is maintained on the firing line. Janett (office manager) makes sure that the BSIS paperwork is properly organized and submitted.......I haven't experienced a hiccup yet, and this creates peace of mind knowing that my permits are always current. My first experience with Phil & the Nanpor staff was 2 years ago to obtain my phase 1 Guard Card. Phil is an excellent instructor & very professional. He Knows how to keep the momentum moving for the classes as there is a lot of state required material that can otherwise get dry. Phil keeps it light. I just finished the 2 day initial exposed firearms course & again Phil has kept it light but serious. All state material was again dry but he keeps you drawn in throws a lot of realistic scenarios at you to keep you thinking. Range time was great & safe. ALWAYS SAFE. Phil doesn't mess around with safety. Great course & a good group of people. If any one is interested in starting or adding security certificates this is the place to go. Hands down. My friend and I decided to take an educational class on gun safety through Nanpor Security. I was not a gun owner, she was but had not shot her gun in years. I mentioned that I wanted to take a class and eventually purchase a firearm and she said she would join me. Our instructor was Franklin Reed, he was awesome! He was so knowledgeable, easy to work with and tried to accommodate our schedules whenever possible. After our training, we both took and passed our firearms safety test, and I became a gun owner! We have continued to train with Mr. Reed and receive instruction about twice a month over the last 7 months. Each time we train with him we learn something new to help us become more confident when we are at the range and as a result our marksmanship is becoming more accurate each time we work with him. We also took advantage of the laser simulator at Nanpor. It is a great way to improve your thinking if you should be faced with real life situations as those that are simulated on the screen. After each session we were able to review the accuracy of our shots and discuss better ways to handle the situations that were on the screen. I am getting ready to take my CCW training in March and Mr. Reed will be my instructor. I would recommend Mr. Reed without hesitation. He is a true professional and extremely knowledgeable! This is your basic permit issuing facility. If you need a guard card, firearms permit or any other permit that may be required for security purposes than this is the cheap, one stop shop. I know Nanpor provides security guards for events and the such, but I have no knowledge of their quality of service. I honestly can't compare Nanpor with other security training schools because I haven't been through other schools. But, I am a 1990 graduate (Class #100) of the Orange County (CA) Sheriff's Training Academy with the addition of over a thousand hours of advanced LE in-service training along the west coast to include several FBI advanced classes. So I have received some great training in my experience. With that training experience, Phil and his staff at Nanpor are outstanding! Seriously, they are no joke. You get serious training, no "mickey mouse" stuff. To-date, I have completed the Guard Card, Firearms Training, 1st Aid/CPR, AED, 3 day Executive Protection (EP), Chemical Agent, Taser, and Baton courses. Excellent classes. You will be trained and there is a lot of information for you to receive. It's up to you to apply yourself for mastery and information retention. The key, as is for any training you participate in, is stay teachable (no matter your background), take lots of notes, ask questions, apply yourself, practice what you learn on your own time, pay attention, remain interactive with your instructors and classmates, respect and honor the industry and profession and you will do well in this school. Phil and his Nanpor staff will do their job to prepare you for your career in security. Don't forget to do your part. If you don't pay attention and take your security education serious, no security school is going to help you.
