1/2 chicken combo with dark meat, spicy rice, and macho peas
    David B.

Meal: Lunch, dine in All Ratings out of 10: Quality of food: 8 Food to Spend Value: 8 Quality of Service: 7 Overall Rating: 8 I had been familiar with Nando's Peri-Peri sauce for a while, as I can buy a few flavors from stores in the US. There are evidently a few restaurant locations in the US, but I had never been to one. While on a business trip in Hammersmith, there was one literally around the corner, and I ended up going multiple times for lunch. The menu has lot of options, but their claim to fame is chicken, so needless to say I had to get chicken. The chicken is marinated in Peri-Peri marinade and then grilled to order. I went with a half chicken but asked specifically for dark meat (meaning 2 leg quarters with the thigh), and then I combo'ed it with 2 regular sides. They have several different marinades to choose from, and I went with the Lemon Herb. For sides I chose the Macho Peas and Spicy Rice. The chicken itself was very juicy and tender and had a very nice flavor from the marinade. They had a variety of sauces to choose from at the table, one being Wild Herb that I had never heard of before. I loved the flavor and ended up dousing the chicken with it. The spicy rice wasn't very spicy but had a nice flavor to it. The Macho Peas were new for me, but they had a nice flavor and good texture that went very well with the chicken. On a different visit I tried the grilled corn on the cob, and it was also quite tasty. One big thing to note is that Nando's has a self-serve soda machine with chilled soda, which though normal for me in the US seemed to be very unusual in London. It was admittedly quite nice to get cold Coke from the fountain drink machine! Nando's feels like a cross between fast food and sit down restaurant, as you order and pay before you are seated. The food comes out quickly and is fresh and hot. I felt like the prices were pretty good, and the overall quality was great! You can also buy many of the Peri-Peri sauces from them, though I was saddened to find out that the Wild Herb sauce was not available for purchase. Nando's, please make this one available for purchase (especially in the US!!), as it is easily my favorite of all their sauces. If you are looking for a quick tasty lunch that is different from the norm, and you are in Hammersmith, you should definitely check out Nando's. Quick, delicious, and reasonably priced, it satisfied my lunch cravings more than once, and I hope to make it back in the future.

Very good chicken restaurant. Tried a range of sauces from mild to spicy, all good. Perfect for quick bite.

Chicken Burger and Sweet Potato Wedges

A friend told me (and probably every British Youtuber) that Nando's is the bomb and that I should definitely try it. Well, I did and I don't understand why everyone is in love with it. I think it was good but that's it. I had a grilled chicken burger and sweet potato wedges. Both were alright, nothing special to be super excited about. The prices were okay, I paid £8,90 but you can see them on their website. The stuff was very nice and friendly, so I might visit again.

I had a real jones for a true British fish and chips meal. Since we weren't thrilled with the hotel's recommendation, we started to wander. We came across two Bobbies and thought, "Eureka! Surely they will know of a good fish and chips place". The answer to the question, however, was the start of the great dinner adventure. "There's no proper fish and chips around here", said the first cop. "You know, they are disappearing from all over Britain", said the second. The first cop went on to say, "If you want a proper [he pronounced it as "prawper", of course] fish and chips, it's pretty far; about 15 minutes from here. You'd have to take the number 74 or 430 nightbus. But that's a proper fish and chips shop, which is a dying breed here. You go down two blocks to the light, turn to the right and take the 74 or 430 bus through two roundabouts to the third stop. The shop is called The Anchor and it's a proper fish and chips, all right. Just next to the toy store". So off we went, down the street to find the nightbus. I had a vision of the Harry Potter movie in my head, of course. But the traffic was heavy, so the real bus wasn't going very fast. We were clearly off the tourist map and in a residential area of London. After a bit, we weren't sure if we had passed it or what, so we asked if anyone on the upper deck with us knew of The Anchor - no one had. But they knew the toy store, and that was the next stop, so we clambered down and jumped off at the next stop. There it was, not a block off. The owners (Maurice and his wife) were delightful people who really cared about us, taking the time for a conversation and just being super friendly. The meal was just the best in comfort food - tasty, warm, and satisfying. Prices were reasonable. I plan to return.

Chosen Bun is a burger take-away and delivery shop located in Fulham. Their concept is simple: do a good burger, and make sure it will still taste good after it was driven around town. To solve the challenge of transporting a burger properly, they designed special packaging. I noticed this little shop on Fulham Road one evening when I decided to walk part of my commute instead of taking the tube. And soon after that, I came back to check out their burger. The shop looks very much like a fancy fast food restaurant. Staff are very friendly and it seemed that the atmosphere in the kitchen was really good. To the food, I ordered The Shoveman, a beef burger with cheese and bacon, with Belgians, that's their chunky skin-on chips with rosemary salt. After a short while, my food was ready and handed to me in their signature packaging - I stayed in store, but it was still interesting to see what they came up with. The burger tasted pretty good. It was not too messy to eat, the juicy patty was cooked medium and the burger was full of delicious flavours. The chunky chips were okay, but I had better chips in London. They are chunky and crispy, but not all are crispy. They are finished with rosemary salt, but they are far from other rosemary chips I've tasted before. Anyway, there are still some other interesting items on the menu that I'd like to try. As of now, they only deliver to a few post codes around the Fulham area, so in case you plan to stop by to pick up your burger, Chosen Bun is roughly between Fulham Broadway Underground station and Parsons Green Underground station.

The chicken wings were superbly tender as the meat literally fell off the bone with just a touch. Choose from three flavours to suit your fancy. Dipping sauce costs extra. Onion rings were good but could use a little work on the breading to onion ratio. Their burgers are delicious with a plump bun, thick patty and right amount of toppings. They offer a selection of beef, chicken and mushroom burgers along with creative sides like fried mac and cheese. Along with a handful of craft milkshakes, I will be dining here again.
