Noticing a crowd forming in front of this chicken place I went in for a closer look. Everybody was eating chicken out of a bag. Apparently this is the Taiwanese way to eat fried chicken. They offered thighs chunks and breasts. I ordered the breasts. They came out super piping hot in a few minutes and they call your number to pick up. There is nowhere to sit down and there is zero ambience. You pick up your chicken and then you go eat it in the street outside. The breast is flattened and extra crispy and was definitely good. I would prefer a table to sit out but that's not the way Chinatown rolls. No matter what time you walk past this place there's always a line. Give it a go. read more

Hidden away in the basement of the Hoxton Holborn Hotel is this table service restaurant serving tasty rotisserie cooked chicken that has been marinated overnight and then spit-roasted over hot coals. The result is that even the chicken breast meat comes out juicy and tender. You'll have your choices of barbecue and hot sauces at the table, if you want to plus the bird up with some additional flavour... but I'd recommend you try the meat first as the seasonings are excellent as they are. The menu is fairly simple. You can offset a relatively healthy chicken entree with temptations such as their famous mac n'cheese or a crispy crinkle cut chips to be dipped in mayo. Instead, after several days of overindulgence in London, I decided on a simple salad of butter lettuce and avocado. The waitress was rather impressed with my restraint. The salad was very sparsely dressed but not boring. It was a refreshment of a side for 6.5 quid. Having restrained myself to just one pint of Camden Pale Ale, the waitress returned to ask if I wanted one of their famous puddings. (In the Queen's English, all desserts are called puddings... I learned, but not all puddings are desserts.) Luckily, the puddings on offer included their cracking deep-filled apple pie, a generous slice spooned hot out of the pan with a ball of melty vanilla ice cream. All that healthy eating was just setup for this moment... because this pie is many pleasures in one. The heated fruit tart and just a little crisp and fresh. The crust that's flaky and crumbly, with just a cookie-like snap at the outset... ready to be eaten on its own or swirled into the pool of melty ice cream mingling with the sugary drippings from the filling. Aptly named the Chicken Shop, this place is worthy of visiting to eat some well cooked chicken. The chicken is not dry and is well complemented by the Chicken Shop Smoky Sauce. The crinkle chips are satisfyingly chunky and crisp, the salad is tasty with avocado and dressing and the apple pie is freshly made and a nice way to top the meal off. A slight let down is the limited variety on the menu for both food and drink and the limited variety of sauces or flavours. On the whole, a good hearty meal but a bit one-dimensional. read more

Great chicken and sides. Pretty cheap and cheerful. Recommend this place. It's easy to miss as it's a nondescript door with a sign outside. You get a good whiff of the nail salon on the way in and then it's an open space downstairs, albeit a bit dark. Good, friendly service, with a real simple and straight forward menu. We ordered a half chicken with fries, coleslaw and corn on the cob. All were delicious. I tried a bit of the hot sauce and it was spicy! Similar to the sauces at Nando's. I wish there was more natural light, but that's minor. They open till midnight on Friday and Saturday! I like this place a lot and will be back. read more

Being on our fourth day in London we had already explored a lot of the Buckingham Palace area and were heading to Drury Lane to see a show. Using Yelp as our guide we discovered Chicken Shop and couldn't have been happier. The downstairs restaurant had a different feel to it, like we had found a secret place away from the crowded streets above. The ambiance had a very rustic feel to it, with unfinished wooden walls and wooden tables and chairs. We were seated immediately (Sunday afternoon is a great time to go) and the service was spot on. Our waiter quickly went through the simple menu with us and made some recommendations based on our family size. The menu is structured for family style dining, with lots of shared main and side dishes. For a family of four we got a half a chicken and three sides (two mac and cheeses and fries) and there was more than enough food for us. The chicken was moist and seasoned so that you didn't need anything on it (but the sauces on the tables were tasty) and the Mac and cheese was homemade with additional parmigiana cheese. The fries were standard but went well with the garlic mayo that they provided. After the main meal we ordered the deep filled apple pie and chocolate brownie (which came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and heavy cream) and both were out of this world, freshly made and a great topper to the meal. Highly recommend this place for a quick lunch, a longer dinner with friends or family, or even for take away. The prices won't break your wallet and the food is fresh and delicious. The servers were very attentive and helpful and if I am ever in London in the near future I will definitely be coming here again. read more

Erm my goodness! This place is a find! We stumbled upon this place (it is in the basement) on our way to the museum. The chicken is rotisserie cooked over open flame. You can order by the quarter, half or whole. If there are more than two of you I would split a chicken & order a couple of sides. The sides are generous & very delicious (we had the salad & chips). The salad was very fresh & went very well with the chicken & oh my the chips. Crispy with tender innards. The chicken was slap your mama good. I swear this place could beat out some of the places here in H-town. They have a couple of sauces & the "hot" was very spicy (another surprise). The service was fast & friendly. Really worth to try this place, the chicken and short ribs are so good ! We have eleven people and ate four whole chicken, three short ribs and some sides. And the bill is just 210 pounds, which is a normal price in central London. I will back to this restaurant later, like it! read more

Where do I start? If you're looking for simple, yet fantastically cooked, tummy-warming, finger-licking comfort food, come HERE. I've been here quite a few times now (in the Tooting, Holborn AND Whitechapel branch) and the food has never disappointed. The choice is easy as they pretty much just serve chicken, coleslaw, corn on the cob, chips, salad and dessert (I would recommend the apple pie - seriously), so you don't have to spend ages rifling through a bible-sized menu and for you vegetarians - even my veggie friend loved the place! An American in London. Stuck in a West End hotel on a Friday night .. working. Stomach rumbling, Room Service not answering the phone. Front desk goes to voice mail. Can't concentrate. Now What? Deliveroo + Chicken Shop = Happy Tummy. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (10gbp) and a side of corn on the cob (5gbp). Add in a 2.50gbp delivery charge and whatever you like for a tip .. VOILA! Roughly 30minutes later I was stuffing my face with delicious roasted chicken with perfectly crispy, seasoned skin (I love the skin - don't judge me), and equally perfectly seasoned and grilled corn. It wasn't until I was done making a pig of myself that I noticed the little containers of sauce - which weren't even remotely needed. And, yes. Food so good I had to immediately write a review .. after washing my hands, of course. Here's the downside. I was hoping the protein infusion would help me concentrate better. Nope. Now I'm sleepy. Happy Sleepy Belly. (Note re: Deliveroo .. the delivery person isn't allowed to come up to the hotel room, so be sure you aren't in crummy pajamas if you have to go down to the lobby. its like a posh nandos. limited menu only serving chicken in different portions but in this case you are glad it narrows down the choice as te chicken is as good as it gets, the meat is amazing and complemented well by the sides (garlic corn, butter lettuce and avo salad and crinkly fries). I LOVED the way they displayed the wine (good, better, best) i went for middle of the range and my glass came out in a mini carafe which was another nice touch. good for dates and/or groups - definitely will be returning! read more

I'm so glad the bakery I wanted to stop by was closed and that I found this place near the British Museum. It's the best chicken and Mac & cheese I've ever had. The chicken was extremely tender and I used their house made spicy BBQ sauce. This place hands down beats any BBQ place I've been to in the States. read more
