If like me, you have an allergy, you will need to order at the counter with a manager to ensure the request is sanctioned correctly. I did find the food expensive for what it is, as of March 2024, my meal came to £15, which I find to be a little expensive for fast casual, and that doesn't include extras such as drinks and Perinaise. The prices also seem to be rising out of control too, even in the current climate they seem to be putting their prices up every couple of months, much more frequently than rivals. They also don't offer regular mayonnaise despite being a chicken restaurant, so you'll have to choose between their vegan alternative or pay extra for their Peri-naise (mayonnaise mixed with peri-peri sauce). My meal as a whole came to £16 with tap water, they would only allow me to have a small glass of the water too, so I annoyingly had to keep going back to the water fountain for more during my meal. This particular location is reasonably good, I was able to get a table and was served quite quickly despite visiting on a busy Saturday. The staff seemed friendly enough although service seemed more fast-paced as they had to deal with the crowds. There were a lot of tables in the restaurant, some seemed a little close together and difficult to pass through, but they did a good job getting food out considering this. My food was OK, although I've certainly had better at other Nando's locations. The chips were piping hot, but the rest of my meal was warm. The portion size of the chicken and the fries was good, although they seemed to be ungenerous with the peri-salt on the chips, and I had to request extra. I also noticed the portion of spicy rice was less than normal, and felt flattened down to look like there was more than there was. 3* - Many positives for sure, but also many areas for improvement.

I was skeptical about the red pepper relish but it was delicious with the hot sauce I chose for my chicken. The creamy mash (which I had very high expectations for) wasn't that great :( I prefer the the US version of is. Everything else that the rest of my party got was great. The servers were very sweet and the location is big enough to accommodate big parties.

The food though, is way better than Nando's... Anyone who's been to Nando's more than a few times must have realized that when the chips are cooked, they put them on plates under the 'hot' lamps until your chicken is cooked. Not only does this result in really soggy luke-warm chips, but you can actually watch your chips going soggy and cold as the plates are visible from the restaurant. Nothing more irritating. You literally look at your chips sitting on a plate for ten minutes before they add your chicken to it. The plate is then delivered to your table, you test the chips to confirm your suspicions, and hey presto! They're grim and cold. No such problems at Chilli Peri Chicken. Also, their rice is much much nicer than the Nando's alternative, as its got loads of great spices and veggy bits giving it a real full flavour. Portions are big at Nando's, but they're even bigger here. The fizzy drinks here are fizzy rather than flat, so they haven't copied Nando's in this regard. I strongly recommend this place. Nando's is well popular and I'm actually a fan myself despite its problems, but Chilli Peri Chicken is literally the same thing, but better. Hot Chicken mmmmm... P.S. Me and my besties were going to Nando's for a nice bestie meetup when numerous extremely horrible incidents occurred that have scarred me and my two gorgeous icons for ever. Firstly, food (specifically a chip) was launched at my best friends face causing havoc and upset and the staff did nothing about it and she was left in tears (so extremely sad) and then my other gorgeous bestie's food came incomplete. The lettuce was not in her chicken wrap! We had asked the waitress and she snatched her plate out of my besties hands making her upset as a result and didn't say anything and came back with the plate slammed it on the table and walked off. The service was so awful, the atmosphere was so rude and we all left the restaurant upset and frustrated. It was so upsetting. Please let this not happen again.

The restaurant was slightly smaller than the average Nando's, but despite this, I was still able to get a table straight away. There is still a good amount of tables, including booths and lots of comfortable seating. The interior overall looked like pretty much any other Nando's, which always have a familiar feel to it no matter where in the country you are. I was placed right next to the frozen yoghurt machine, which was noisy - I'm not sure if there was a fault with it, but I was still able to communicate with the rest of my party at the table, so not a big deal. I ordered my usual Nando's order, a Chicken Butterfly with medium spice, peri chips and spicy rice. The chicken tasted good with a generous helping of the sauce, the rice was hot and didn't stick together, and the fries had a good coating of the peri-salt, so tasted good too. Having driven past it a few times it had been on my radar for a few weeks. The reason for the delayed visit is the fact that I don't venture into these parts that often. The location is a tad out the way and in no man's land near what I like to call 'textile district' of Cheetham hill. Aside from a few buffet/banquet hall restaurants and takeaways there's not much here as you drive out the city on Cheetham hill road towards Prestwich. Dera is the one exception. In fact its exceptional in pretty much every way possible. Why? A few reasons; Guaranteed a table any time of the week!! We arrived at prime time in dining terms on a Saturday night at 8:30pm without a reservation. This is a dangerous tactic but if you know me well enough it's the kind of thing I'd do. Mainly because there's so many dining options in our great city but more importantly, spontaneity and I get along well. To our bemusement the restaurant wasn't busy at all and we got a table immediately. I made a note of this for future reference. A quiet and intimate spot for dinner on a Saturday night away from the pretension of city centre white noise maraudery? Hell yes please! Unique and Authentic decor!! Upon entering there's an air of informality about the place. Things are very simple here. It'd be weird if they weren't. Dera refers to the Urdu/punjabi word for the makeshift restaurant/eatery across Pakistan. They can be found in Villages or are littered across the motorways that join major cities to these remote villages. (a simpler version of motorway service stations if you will) The huge wall paintings depict life in the villages. There's a main stage area that's littered with beautiful ornaments synonmous with Pakistani villages. There's everythign from hand made decorated chairs and pots to 'patangs' (kites). An ideal photo oppurtunity for social media savvy folk. There's even an old school replica farm tractor parked outside much like the ones used by farmers in said villages. Holy Moly batman, the food!! I honestly cannot recall tasting a rice dish that's cooked better in a restaurant than the Saji I tried here. It was nothing short of blow your socks off sensational. Also, I challenge anyone to find me a main course at £14 that could feed 4 people. That portion was, let's just say sizeable. Saji is a bit like a biryani but with slow cooked tandoori chicken. The chicken was melt in your mouth tender. Understandably I took more than half of the portiion home and had it for lunch the next day. It tasted even better the next day! How's that even possible? In conclusion I can't recommend this place highly enough if you like Pakistani food. Note: Much like a lot of other authentic eaterys from Pakistan they don't serve alcohol here. There's a huge car park at the back but beware the sharp left turn entrance which is a tad obscured. I don't normally make grand statements but 'Dera say it', this could be my new fav eatery in Manchester.

But while walking around the Oldham area during previous trips, I had continually seen these restaurants advertising themselves as Peri-Peri. All over. So it is apparently a thing over here, and naturally I was curious. After being rejected by the Horton Arms pub nearby (kitchen closed at 7:30), I reluctantly walked back to this shopping centre to get fed, with the knowledge that this was pretty much a culinary wasteland of chain-restaurants. Upon arriving, I almost opted for McDonald's, because it would be a known-quantity with no chance of getting an unexpected disappointing food product. But I decided no, that I ought to at least try something I can't get at home, and headed towards Nando's. I did check out Pizza Hut along the way because I could see they had a salad bar, which was a healthy option, but after stepping one foot into the place I turned right around and walked out; the music was too loud and "club" to have an enjoyable experience in there. (What is it with these restaurants in this shopping centre? Do they think they're a disco?? [see my review of my previous night's experience at Frankie and Benny's]. I don't get it.) So I went to Nando's. Music was also playing here, but slightly less loud and instrumental, and therefore more tolerable. I had run out of restaurant choices too... :) After about a ten-minute wait (acceptable), I was seated, and the waitress was kind enough to explain the ordering and other self-serve processes. I ordered the 1/4 chicken medium spicy, and a squeezed apple juice. Sides were coleslaw and garlic bread. The food came relatively quickly. As I mentioned before, the chicken was good -- tasty. But be warned that, apparently, British chickens are not as large as American chickens; the thigh and leg contained far less meat than I expected. But it was good. The Apple juice was also very good. However the garlic "bread" pieces were like hockey pucks. Literally. First of all, they were not bread, but some sort of a bun cut in half, so every bite came with crust. Call me picky, but I don't like that, and I was expecting soft normal bread, not crust. They were also cold, and hard enough to cause a "clank" when striking a ceramic bowl. Fortunately a waitress came by and replaced them with a fresher pair when I showed her what I had received. The coleslaw was a bit too runny for me, but I was far more concerned that it also came to me at room-temperature! I doubt that coleslaw is intended to be served warm, so I can only assume that it hadn't been refrigerated for a while for some reason, and no one there was aware enough or cared enough about what was happening to it. I left most of it for fear that it'd make me sick. That all pretty well describes my first Peri-Peri experience.

We went with the intention to sit in but the place was absolutely packed so after a few minutes umming and ahhing we decided to get a takeaway. The wait for a table was 30 minutes and then an additional 30 minutes for the food itself so we definitely made the right decision. We went for a quick wander round the retail park, headed back, grabbed our sauces and by the time we'd finished the food was ready! The waitress was very friendly and kindly went through our order with us and checked off each item before placing it in the bag. All was present and correct, she wished us Happy New Year and we went on our way. The food was warm throughout. I actually decided against chicken this time and chose their new fillet steak wrap with grilled vegetables. I'm so glad I did, as it was delicious. The steak was chunky and nicely pink inside and the vegetables were cooked to perfection with that nice charred taste you're looking for in anything grilled. I really enjoyed it! I also had the macho peas, rice and red pepper dip. All tasted as they should and I enjoyed them. The 4 stars are definitely for efficiency and politeness from all the staff in the store and a bonus for the juicy steak!
