I just got my very first pedicure at Nancy's and I'm very happy with the entire experience. It was tough trying to find a good nail salon in the area and I decided to check Nancy's out. I walked in without an appointment and it wasn't very busy at the time (2:30ishpm). The location is a bit snug but there is also a downstairs area as well. The main salon I believe is on the top floor. I was asked what I Service I needed and was immediately attended to. The lady asked me to pick a color and then began to prep the seat for my pedicure. There isn't a huge selection of Essie polish but I found a great burnt orange that looks fantastic on. The lady was very attentive and thorough. They use brand new tools every time and I honestly felt like I was getting a pedicure from my mom. The lady was so sweet and she went the extra mile to make sure I was okay with everything. My pedicure was $20 and the service was EXCELLENT. If she upgrades the place a bit this location would be super popular. I would highly recommend. read more

I moved away from Silver Spring recently, but every time I come back I make sure to get my nails done with Nancy. My nails come out wonderful, the service is great, things are reasonably priced, and most importantly Nancy is one of the kindest people around. She genuinely cares and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and that your service exceeds expectations. One example was when I got a pedicure in the middle of winter and I was just going to walk a few blocks home in flip flops in 30 degrees. She opened a new pair of socks for me, cut off the toes, and gave them to me so I could be warm on my walk (and so my nails still looked good:)). Highly recommend! Thanks Nancy! read more

I really enjoyed this salon. All the nail techs were very kind and took their time doing my nails. All the tools were sanitized and the prices are extremely reasonable at $10 for a manicure! One star was taken off because there were a few minor problems in the application and it looked like they had not swept in a little while. Besides that it was a great experience. Nancy feels like a best friend! She was very accommodating for our requested appointment time and while she was doing my nails someone came in with some food and asked how long the wait was and Nancy said "15 min, you can eat over here on the couch". Nancy also answered a call on speaker and the person calling in very obviously loved Nancy and has been coming here for a long time. Nancy also gave me and my friend recommendations for lunch and joked with us about our workout clothes. I will definitely be a new regular. So I'm fairly new to the area and I was looking for a place to get my nails done for a special occasion. I looked up places in the area and this salon had the highest reviews consistently across the board. I called and made an appointment hoping it would live up to the reviews. It did not. When I walked in, the salon was small. Only three pedicure chairs and two manicure chairs. It looked a little dirty, but I figured it was an old building and people had good experiences here so I didn't think much of it. The longer I was there the more dodgy I realized the place was. The building was old and dirty. The basement the send you down to to wash your hands is gross. The water from the faucet had a sulfur smell to it and everything down there was generally dirty. The owners mom was down there washing vegetables and there was food all over the place. When my manicure and pedicure was finished I noticed it was done sloppy. Nothing was even and there was polish all over my skin. When I asked my nail tech about fixing it she refused. I left and went to another salon that happily fixed Nancy's mistakes for me. It also became evident to me as I left that they do not sanitize their tools. My nails felt weird and my big toe in particular was in pain. I woke up the next day to an infected toe. Thankfully I noticed it quickly so I could care for it properly before it became a big problem. This place is unsanitary and their services are poor in quality. I'm not sure how it had such a high rating to begin with. read more

Stopped in on a Monday for a quick brow and lip wax. Immediately Nancy brought me back to the chair and went to work. It's a no frills kind of salon, but Nancy does a great job and is very friendly- she asked my name and repeated it multiple times in conversation, which was a very nice gesture. I came in for a pedicure. It was fine - nothing too fancy. It was pretty basic. I did feel like they were rushing me, but I didn't let that bother me too much. I didn't have to wait - I walked right in. I can't remember who did my pedicure, but I know it wasn't Nancy. She was doing a manicure for someone else. The parking around here was terrible. I liked how the chair was covered in disposable paper drapes and that everyone has their own tub of wax. She also gave me a discount which is always pleasant and I really enjoyed her company. I just had my first experience with Nancy's and was very pleased. This block of Bonifant is my favorite block in Silver Spring. I had a full set of acrylics put on (don't judge) and it was the most careful and beautiful set I've ever had. Best of all, it was very affordable at $22. (Manicures are $10, pedis $20, fyi). I arrived with no appointment on a Friday afternoon and was quickly attended to by Nancy's husband, Huang, who repairs air conditioners for a living but helps Nancy out on occasion. Frankly I think he should quit his day job because the manicure showed great attention to detail and patience. It was totally unrushed and the end result is great. He even took the time to apply a sugar scrub to my hands which is not the norm in these little shops in my experience. The icing is he is a lovely conversationalist with a fascinating life story. The owners seemed to know the other customers and treated them well. One woman next to me, very pregnant, was getting a pedicure and I could see that the foot massage looked thorough and better than the usual perfunctory one. When I called to make an appointment for 2 regular mani/pedis the person who answered the phone (I guess saw my VA number) and said the salon was too far me?? This is the point I should have looked for another place, instead I explained that I was in their area and it wasn't too far for me. I show up and the lady asked me four times in a row if she could start on my pedi, each time I told her I would like to wait for my friend but did she have two people available for mani and pedi; she wouldn't answer just kept asking her questions. She finally says have a seat and wait for your friend then rudely blurts out we don't do fake nails.... Well I called and asked for two regular mani/pedis, and I didn't mention fake nails nor did I have fake nails on... So I don't know what made her assume that I wanted fake nails... Oh except maybe she thinks all black women want fake nails??? Smh I turned to yelp at this point and found Solar Nails, it's 1.5 miles away from this dingy spot and I had a 5* experience there. read more

Hmmmmm. This is the most difficult review I have ever written. So I went to Nancy's Nails based on the convenient location and great Yelp reviews. THE GOOD: I had no appointment, but they took me right away. In the hour and a half I was there, I noticed that Nancy clearly has a following. No fewer than five people dropped by (of all ages and backgrounds). They called Nancy by name and she asked personal questions about them. Nice. It seemed like a friendly, community based business. Also, my manicure was lovely. A week later, my nails still look great, BUT . . . THE BAD: This place is sooooo dirty! I was uncomfortable throughout the manicure. I want to relax during an appointment like this one, but I cannot if I think I may get my clothes dirty or an infection. I questioned how sanitary the instruments and pedicure tub was and spent my time watching my technicians like a hawk. Additionally, there was a layer of dust/crud on the drying fans and many other objects. Some other reviewers note that the decor is not up to date. Outdated decor is not the issue. I question if this place would pass inspection. Yes, I did stay despite being uncomfortable, but I would not go back or recommend that anyone go to Nancy's unless they wanted a close-knit manicure community. read more

I would not recommend this nail salon! Dropped in with my boyfriend for a mani/pedi and I am regretful of that choice. The nail tech giving my boyfriend a manicure cut his cuticle and proceeded to stop the bleeding with a form of liquid skin. However, she then continued to file in the same spot which caused the area to inflame and later become infected. We spent that evening and the following 2 days cleaning and disinfecting his thumb because it was visibly infected. As for my pedicure; she did a sloppy job on my cuticles, didn't shape my nails well and the polish job was messy and barely lasted 1 week. A pedicure typically lasts 3 weeks. As an overall, the prices were low compared to other salons and now I know why. read more

Got a great gel manicure and regular pedicure there. The prices are unbeatable. I went on what I'm assuming was a very busy Saturday afternoon. However my wait time was maybe 15-20 minutes. The reason why I've returned, and will continue to return, is not only due to the outstanding and beautiful job she does on my nails, but also because Nancy asked my name just once - and now I've been there 3 times, and each time she welcomes me by name. Very accommodating when I asked to have them fix it, but even after it was fixed the gel polish started coming off within the next few days. Nancy's is great. Not much to look at and pretty cramped, but for the price, amazing. Walked in and it was packed. Nancy told me to hold on and wait until they could get me into a pedicure chair. The woman who did my pedicure was extremely thorough but gentle. My manicure was excellent as well. And for $30, who can beat it? Found Nancy's Nails off a whim - was just looking for a place to get my nails done during my lunch break! Nancy is super sweet and did a great job with my manicure. I've gone back multiple times with no appt (just during my lunch break) and have gotten lucky enough to get Nancy. Nancy has a very loyal clientele - people come in and are willing to come back in 1-2 hrs because of how busy she is for her. Her sister is also very sweet! The salon itself is VERY small and outdated but everything is clean and her nail polish options are on par. If you want someone to truly care for your nails and looking for a place that cares about sanitation Nancy Nails is the place. They do not use acrylic for health reasons. It was my first time here and I loved the cleanliness and care taken with my pedi and mani. They helped me decide between colors and then really took time to perfect shaping and making sure polish was on every nail. I have gel opi polish on my nails and regular polish on my toes with one nail glitter on each foot and hand in turquoise!!! To my disbelief they actually had sets that matched! Their salon is organized so that you can easily find the pairs to match the different types going from shellac to gel to regular polish.
