Yes, they do have on and off days but I would say about 90% of the time, the food that is displayed that you can order and take home, or eat there is quite delicious and Filipino authentic. I am disappointed that the salted fish - bagoong is no longer available and they do make their own but it is too sweet. When it comes to food catering - they really deliver. Step 1: walk to the left-side of the hot table, tell server what you want - 1-item or 2-item combo meal or order ala carte in small, medium, or large container. Step 2: point your choices on the hot table. You can also add to your orders like halo-halo for dessert. Step 3: proceed to cash register - tell them either to-go, dine-in, or ask for to-go bag for leftover dine-in food. I was told, this is now under new owner, management. I was in the area and had no idea this place even existed, so I decided to drop by. A classic, small, quick bite fast food establishment. It's half serving area, half Filipino goods market, so it's not really a place to dine and sit down. But onto the food. I ordered two items, beef caldereta and pancit palabok. Both were REALLY good, but the only issue was the price. I've lived in Downtown LA, and the Bay Area, and $25.00 for a large order of beef caldereta is absurd. Sure, the container was a little larger than a normal large, but at *most* the amount I received was $20. The pancit palabok was $15, which wasn't egregious, but I could've gone to my local place for the same amount of food and gotten it for $8-$10. These are not prices I expected in the Magnolia, Riverside area. Service was fine, and there the ambiance is just a small market type quick serving room. I don't think I could justify coming back here when I can spend the same amount on a meal at Mama Mia's (three doors down from this place). read more

My husband raves about their lechon kawali. One time he went in and walked right out when he found out they didn't have any that day. Over the weekend, he called asking if they had any and sadly was informed that they sold out. He was offered crispy pata instead, and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. Nanay Glorias had fallen from our graces for quite a few years for a multitude of reasons, and had actually closed. It may have been in part to an additional Filipino restaurant not too far away giving them competition. But luckily for Nanays, they got their act together, reopened, and the quality and attitude have improved as well. So we rediscovered them. It does not escape our attention that it has had a resurgence, thanks to the good support from the Kaiser facility across the street, where the nurses have a tendency to be Filipino. They are a small, family run business where you can find a variety of recognizable comfort foods (if you come from a Filipino background) that vary from day to day. In other words, they serve turo turo style, or cafeteria style for the rest of us. Our favorites have always been their dinuguan and lechon. Bless their hearts for making these, because making them at home is not a pretty sight, even though my Filipino husband/chef is willing. I decided to try Nanay Gloria's for the first time after finding them on Yelp. I ordered several entrees a la cart. Pusit, Sisig, Pinakbet and Kare-kare. The squid were not cleaned with the spine/pen still stuck in the cavity. The kare-kare was made with pork hocks and they were tough. I've always had it with ox tails/beef. Sisig had very little flavor. Price seem to be higher than other Filipino places. I would be more than happy to pay higher prices for good food but the quality of the food does not warrant it. read more

I came here on January 22nd, 2021 around 1:30pm. I was looking to get some Filipino takeout to bring home to my wife and kids for lunch. I would say that this place does not really have anything to write home about. I can say that by looking at the food on display, it did not look very fresh. The taste was just okay, but I probably will not be back. I ordered 2 1-item combos. the first was Bicol Express with pancit, and the other was Squid with steamed white rice. I also ordered a large Sinigang, 1 large pancit, and 2 empanadas. They told me the sinigang was "seafood", but from what I can tell, it was just mackerel. I tried to order a variety of things to get a feel for how good the food is here. Here is my rundown of all the food I ordered. Pancit- Did not look appetizing and the noodles were a blend of bihon and canton with chicken and som veg. This dish was probably the best of the bunch that I ordered. Steamed white rice - I am a little more picky when it comes to steamed white rice, so bear this in mind. The rice given with the combo was not fragrant like jasmine rice. The texture was more like Blue Ribbon rice that you can buy in a grocery store. Perhaps it was the way it was washed? The grains were plump, but not very fluffy or light. Bicol Express - This dish tasted better than it looked. The pork fat and coconut milk blend together with a zing of jalapeno at the end. Squid - I have mixed feelings about this dish because it tasted fine, but the squid was not cleaned. It still had the ink sac and quill inside. The tentacles still had the beaks too. Empanadas - These were greasy and disappointing. I felt disgusted when the filling inside was sour. It wasn't sour because something was added to it. It was sour like it was spoiled. I think the meat inside was chicken or pork, but it didn't matter because there wasn't much filling. It was just a thick doughy crust soaked in grease. "Seafood" Sinigang- Yes, I provided the quotation marks because it is how the dish was described to me (and seemingly how the staff was trying to justify charging the exorbitant price). Albeit mackerel/fish sinigang is still seafood. This dish and the empanadas are probably why I will not be back... The flavor of the sinigang was fine. It was sour the way it supposed to be and had an assortment of vegetables and big chunks of mackerel. I would have been pretty happy with this dish if it were not so face-slappingly expensive. $18.00 for a 16oz cup. Yikes! To put that into perspective - you could buy a steak dinner at a casual dining restaurant for less. I probably should have insisted that I didn't want it, but was feeling guilty because they packaged it all up for me already.... so I just caved and bought it. It didn't even come with rice. Overall, the food here is just so-so. The place is dim and looks dirty. Here is what I spent on all this food: Steamed white rice w/ squid - $7.00 Pancit w/ Bicol Express - $8.00 Large Pancit - $8.00 Large Sinigang (16 oz)- $18.00 Empanadas - $1.75 (x 2)- $3.50 Riverside sales tax (8.75%) $3.89 Total - $48.39 What should they fix? Make sure the food is fresh and perhaps reconsider charging so much for soup. I understand that businesses are having to adapt to covid protocols so a bunch of things had to be moved around to make floor space, but this small takeout is really cramped with so much stuff and the floor and counters look dirty. read more
