Location: This location is directly ona main street in Toronto. This place is definitely a casual spot to grab and go, or you can sit there as well. Regarding parking, I'm not sure how that works because our hotel was within walking distance, and we decided to walk directly from our hotel, which wasn't far at all. Service: If I could give this place a five-star simply because of the service, I would. As I was taking pictures of the pastries, just being a tourist...you can actually see the man in the background who was so friendly and honestly made us smile with his smile. When one must follow a gluten-free diet, it is so nice to find places where you can eat what everyone else gets to enjoy. This was anything but enjoyable. I was planning a little Halloween getaway to Kingston and searching for a new and exciting breakfast place to stop on my way there. I found Heaffles and read through their website--I'm always very careful and vet my restaurants before the trip and plan food meticulously, you have to when you cannot eat gluten. The site stated that if you want a gluten free waffle, you must call 24 hours ahead of time. I immediately thought that was ridiculous (that eliminates any possibility of a GF person walk-in from eating there) but messaged them on Instagram. I asked if I could message then and schedule or did a I have to call. They told me I must call the day before. Pain in the bum, but I set a reminder in my phone and did so. The next day, I show up. Such a cute place and the breakfast that kicks off a trip always makes me so happy. We don't eat out much at all, living so rurally. It had also been ages since I'd enjoyed a GF waffle, so excitement was high. This place has a ton of potential. The seating is cute, the bathrooms clean and so beautifully decorated. There is even a little cubby with cushions that would make it feel as though one was having breakfast in bed. I really did fall in love with the space. There didn't appear to me to be a traditional server comes to your table. You walk in and place your order at the counter. I ordered a Flat White to drink along with a water and a gluten-free coconut rush. The young lady at the counter was very quick to tell me that they had a customer coming in to get a GF waffle and that they only had enough batter for one waffle and that I would need to try again and call 24 hours beforehand. Right before I told her I was that customer, my brain was like, what? You have enough batter for ONE waffle??? I make GF stuff all the time. It is NOT that expensive. And what if you mess up that ONE waffle (and they did because she didn't listen to me)? I said, "Oh, I called yesterday." And I had driven a very long way. I would hate for anyone else to do that and end up disappointed. After that, I was allowed to order my waffle. Coconut is my favourite sweet flavour, but it came with strawberries and strawberry syrup. I told her THREE times I didn't want the strawberries or the syrup. Strawberry jam, jelly syrup...I hate them all, also cannot stand cooked fruit. She told me she could put the strawberries on the side and that they were uncooked. I said that was okay, but reiterated AGAIN that I do not want or like the strawberry syrup. I thought I might get my drinks at the counter, but she said they would bring everything to my table. I sat within view of the counter by the window. I assumed, as at most places, the drinks would come out first. I had started on the Terra Health heartburn kit to kick my PPI script and needed to take the supplements before eating. Some ladies came in after me and they got their drink order while I sat and waited. The waffle came out, and I was too panicked by not taking my supplements to pay that much attention and told them I needed some water and that I didn't have my coffee yet. They came back in a few minutes and in the meantime, I saw that the waffle I'd paid nearly $30 for, along with a very tiny flat white coffee, was drenched...every inch in yucky strawberry syrup. I'm a silver lining kind of girl, so I told myself to try it, maybe my tastes have changed. Nope. It was this strong, chemically strawberry flavour that made me gag. Talk about disappointed. At this point it was late in the morning and I was starving. I opened up the waffle (the size, even if they'd managed to listen to my order was not worth what I paid) and ate some of the filling out. The only waffle that had no nasty syrup was at the fold and I ate the four bites I could. The coffee was literally 3 swallows. I left hungry and angry. And in all that time, no one ever came back to ask me how the order was...and I knew I couldn't send it back because that was their ONE GF waffle batter of the day. I had to stop at Wendy's and spend another $10 for a bunless burger after. I would never go back. The ask and not having the batter available is beyond RIDICULOUS, despite the fact they don't listen, which makes a GF person VERY nervous. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. Poor service, poor value and food I couldn't stomach. Not for me.

Where the experience finds room to grow is in the choreography of the space itself. The room is petite, charming in its cobalt blue framed way, but the flow between ordering and pickup can feel cramped during a rush, and seating fills quickly. The patio, however, is a genuine reward, a shaded perch worth claiming on a slow afternoon. This is a cafe operating with real ambition and skill, let down only occasionally by its own popularity. Arrive early, claim a croissant while you still can, and settle onto the patio; you'll leave understanding exactly why regulars keep coming back.

A fun activity to do with friends!…read more I attended the croissant making class and it was great! I liked how small the classes were as it let the instructor come by and offer 1 on 1 help. It was very wholesome and cozy. The class started with a sweet treat for everyone attending. We didn't get to experience the whole croissant making process as that would take multiple days. This meant that the dough was already prepared when we got there. For each of the remaining steps, we were given demonstrations before we got to try it out on our own. We made both butter croissants and pain au chocolates. We didn't get to try any of the croissants we made in class but still got to eat many croissants by the end of class. We each got to take the croissants we made home as well as what the instructor made. I think I ended up going home with 10 in total!

Yesterday, I was in the area and dropped by for some chocolate. Chocolate and Love is at Heartland Town Centre. It's perfect because you can shop, eat, and more. I had an early dinner at Swiss Chalet. I swung by this cafe afterwards. I had no problem finding this cafe. I backed into a parking spot and walked in. It is a pretty shop. It does steady business. I headed to the counter and was immediately greeted by a female staffer during my first visit. I got a different female staffer my second time. This place doesn't have iced hot chocolate. I am guessing that it would be difficult to melt fine chocolate and then ice it to death. I had a small hot dark chocolate (70%) with oat beverage during my first visit. It was excellent. I'm a dark chocolate person and I love hot chocolate. It was slightly sweet, which was perfect. I only wished that I had a larger cup of it. This store has a lot of gift ideas or gifts for yourself. I liked looking at the chocolate bars. hot chocolate gift jars, pottery, and more. The only downside was that there weren't any prices listed. I don't know why. The drink menu does. Everything else in the cafe doesn't, as if you're shopping at Tiffany's. I saw boardgames that you can play if you are hanging out for a while. It was a nice touch. I saw a display full of baked goods that looked yummy. I still haven't got any. Next time! It was recommended by the first female staffer that getting a library set (three chocolate bars) was the better deal than the current promotion of getting one bar, and the second bar goes for 50% off. I went for it. I got to sample the dark chocolate orange. It was so good. The orange balanced out the dark chocolate nicely. You can sample any chocolate that you'd like, which was nice. I also asked about the Dubai kunafa cup. She said that she had it in strawberries with pistachio. I said yes to one. I've had a similar Dubai kunafa cup from Tanghulu Square One. I frankly liked the latter one better. Although Tanghulu uses milk chocolate, I found that you could easily eat the strawberries with the chocolate-pistachio mixture with ease. At Chocolate and Love, the chocolate was of higher quality. It hardened quickly, so you have to work at it to chip out a whole strawberry with the chocolate-pistachio mixture. It was yummy. I was thoroughly impressed by the generous number of whole strawberries in this cup. It was an exercise in patience and elbow grease to set each strawberry free from the hardened chocolate-pistachio mixture. I felt that it could have included more kunafa. It was at the bottom of the cup, so the crunchiness didn't happen until the end. It should have been more evenly distributed. Anyway, I like this cafe. I will probably pass on the Dubai kunafa cup. However, I'll be back for more dairy-free hot chocolate and some baked goods. It was nice being introduced to this cafe. The chocolate is excellent. I hope to return and chill instead of dashing off to run errands. (187)
