We went in as a walk in group of 4 and were luckily able to get a seat (make reservations). We all ordered different items and each food item was wonderful. The server was very attentive and offered recommendations based on our interests. Our friend got the sashimi plate and it was a large plate with a variety of fish and the sushi roll I got was delicious. So glad to have a new and good sushi restaurant in Chico. read more

We tried Nama Sake for the first time and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff on point. Sierra was our server and she was attentive, made excellent recommendations, and walked us out with a smile. The sushi was fresh and the cocktails were excellent. The atmosphere is great for a nice date, but with their outdoor seating, is welcoming to those looking for a more casual vibe as well. We will definitely be going back. read more

Reservations- They won't take a reservation between 6-730 or so. So we arrived at 530 on a Friday night and watched an empty restaurant until 715 when we left. The restaurant manager needs to know that their lack of reservation-taking in those timeslots is chasing people away (it did us the first time a few weeks prior). Ambience- The restaurant is chic. If the following sections are fixed, it could be a nice place to dine. Service- We were sat in the middle of the walkway, though the restaurant was mostly empty. The server took quite a while to get to us, which was foreshadowing for the rest of the night. it took us 1:45 to eat there, and we only ordered the one round of sushi. That's far too long for a restaurant to make it. HOWEVER, the restaurant manager and some others did a nice job of grabbing plates and filling drinks, so it may just be a backed-up kitchen... Food- It was okay. The rolls were large and clumsy. Some didn't stay rolled. Much of it did not hit the table in a tight timeframe, though ordered together. The flavors were okay, but nothing to rave about. I'd put the fish quality at a middle-of-the-road, no better and no worse. Pricing- The food and service is not worth what they're charging. Overall- For the price, and the wait time, unfortunately this sushi place is a bust. I'd likely try it again, as I like giving restaurants second chances, but I'll give it a while to see if it goes under first... read more

My wife and I tried this place last Friday night. We arrived right around opening at 5PM. We had no problem finding seating at the bar. Hannah, our bartender was fantastic. She was attentive and made our entire experience enjoyable. My wife had the Sake Nigiri. Melt in your mouth. Fresh and tasty. Not fishy at all. I had the Sunset Heat roll. It was executed beautifully. I like spicy food so this hit my sweet spot. Not too spicy, but definitely a bit of heat. The flavor was complimented by the spice not overwhelmed. And last but certainly not least, they have a full bar. I would recommend reservations. The place filled up by the time we were leaving. Based upon our experience I expect it will continue to be popular. read more

First time tried here. It's just ok I would say. Service just average at least mine. We ordered yellowtail Kama under cooked. We asked to re-cooked it back with the same fish. The man who looked like a manager acted so cold without any communication when he brought the fish back. Other fancy restaurant for food safety purposes would cook a new fish for you. Our first time to visit Nama Sake but won't be the last. Having lived in South east Asia and did business many times in Japan, I am familiar with good quality restaurants found in Japan. This restaurant reminded me of the nicer restaurants found over there. It was extremely well thought out and well run. There were 8 of us and so we ordered a variety of drinks, appetizers and entrees. My personal favorite was the 26 piece chef's selection of Sashimi and the 10 piece Nigri mix. The fish was very fresh. Everyone in our party raved about their selections. The wait staff were very efficient as was the bartender. Our personal waitress, Sami was extremely attentive and didn't miss a beat with orders. Because we ordered so many items and drinks it took awhile for our group to be served, but it all came out in proper sequence, drinks, appetizers and mains so we were able to enjoy all the courses together rather than being strung out. I've already recommended Nama Sake to many friends that are sure to enjoy this new addition to Chico. read more

My partner and I walked in to dine in and try this new restaurant. We are greeted but immediately turned away because " they want to have table open for their reservations because the chef said so"??? Huh. Oh but as we are tuning around a guy walks in, he is told the same but that "they can go check if he can be seated tonight". Mind you it's 6pm they opened and hour ago & only have 2-3 table taken. Chef Kevin surprised us with a smoked work of art the "Cherry Blossom". Try the pickled wasabi, trust me (they call it something different). As for rolls you have to try the Noelle. The Bluefin was also wonderful. The carpaccio was delicious and the seared albacore gives its Sacramento competitor a run for their money. I tried this place last night and ate at the sushi bar, My family and i eat sushi quite often so we kinda know what is good and what isn't, last night was just me. I ordered the Maiam Park roll and a Salmon roll, they we really good size, The Edamame buttered garlic I thought was excellent. The service from the gentlemen who served me was excellent so I tipped him really good. The place is nicely done. The reason the the 1 star is watching my sushi get made was beyond horrible. Only one guy had both plastic gloves on and one guy had just one hand glove on and the others just bare hands, They all used they own separate towels to clean their station, their hands and everything else and then put them under the counter on who knows what, One guy kept dipping his fingers and hands in ice water and then take the drippings from his hands and put in on the counter and then spread it around and laid out the sushi on top of it, Several occasions he whipped his hands on his pants after he whipped his brow and then finished drying his hands with the already dirty towel under the counter. The Salmon was pre cut in thin slices which meant it had already been handled by some ones bare hands earlier , The Salmon was very pale and did not look sushi grade and its taste was kinda slimy not a fresh sort of taste that I had had at other places., The Marin Park roll is bit spicy but not bad. The cutting the fish fresh would have made for a better taste, I think they sacrificing the taste over a faster serve time. Sorry but I don't like seeing my food fingered since I don't know where someones hands have been earlier. If they get this solved they might make it and add more of a selection. read more

This was our first visit to Nama Saki. We arrived at 6:30, and were told it'd be an hour wait. They don't take reservations. After an hour and a half we were walked to seats at a small counter, facing the other people who were waiting to be seated. Eventually we got menus, and a while later we ordered miso soup, crunchy Brussels sprouts, gyoza, salad and three rolls. We got the Caterpillar, Noelle and one other. The food came out over the course of another hour, one or two things at a time, but not in any special order or time frame. The food was absolutely perfect. Sooo delicious, every single thing. The servers were great, and little details like icy cold water, but without ice cubes, were really appreciated. The problem was the timing. We were there for three and a half hours, at a little tight bar with workers running back and forth behind us. I'd love to go again, because the food is so good, but I hope they figure out the timing before I do. It was really uncomfortable being squeezed in such a small space for so long. I'm not sure what you have to do to get an actual table, but I'd hope for that next time as well. read more

food is way over priced. i was talking to a worker and they said that it doesn't even matter if I tip them because nama sake owner kees basically all of it. they just opened and are already tanking their business. so ridiculous. I'm boycotting in support of the workers.. lower your prices if you want customers. read more
